How Did You Do It?

The dogs gathered in the boiler room

To hear the hero's many tales.

They asked, "How did you win when all

The odds said you would fail?"

The wolf-dog answered, "It depends

On which adventure's in your scope.

I've won by courage, faith, and love,

But most of all by hope."

"Why did you get medicine

To save a town that fed you hate?"

Said Balto, "I thought of Rosie,

And did it for her sake."

"How did you win Jenna's heart?

We all were certain she'd pick Steele."

Said Balto, "She's not blind, you know.

She knew my love was real."

"Why did you let your daughter

Leave with strange wolves across the sea?"

He said, "It was her time to go.

It was her destiny."

"Even when your son said no,

You went to find the pilot. Why?"

Said Balto, "He was a rival, yes,

But how could I not try?

"The secret, friends, of my success,

Is simple, yet profound.

Whether things seem good or bad,

The truth still comes around.

"So when the world is laughing,

Shouting, 'Loser, mutt,' or 'dope,'

Just push on through life's blizzards

And never give up hope."
