Old Memories Return Part 2
By Ahura Werewolf
The breeze from the river made her hair whip wildly. The clack of her heels on the pavement were drowned out by the rushing of cars. Today felt different she thought, just then as she rounded the corner two men appeared out of the shadows of an alleyway. One of them had the hood of his sweatshirt pulled over his head while the other wore a black ski mask. Both of them had pistols held tightly in their hands. The one with the hood over his head thrust the pistol into her chest and said “get into the alley and don’t make any noise.” She silently shook her head and proceeded to go into the alley. The alley had a few old garbage cans laying against one wall, the ground was covered in loose papers the floated weakly in the wind. She gave one of the men her purse and watched as he went through it’s contents. The other man stood by with his gun pointed at her while he looked around to make sure their was no one watching.
She decided to take this chance to get away. She bolted from the two men who were intently shocked but then quickly chased after her. As she exited the alleyway she made a dash for her apartment which was right around the corner. She heard a bang followed by a hot poker of pain sear up her arm and into her head. She staggered around and faced the two men. She noticed that the one with the hood over his head’s gun barrel had a thin wisp of smoke coming out. All around her people were running and screaming trying to get away from the two with the guns. She looked down at her shoulder, a large part of her coat had been blown away leaving a large gash that blood trickled out of. All of a sudden a large man with brownish blonde hair ran past her and tackled the man with the hood. The man’s partner made a break for it and disappeared out of view. She sank to her knees in shock and tears came to her eyes. The man punched the other man many times in the face and ripped the gun out of his hand tossing it aside. The hooded assailant lay unconscious on the ground his nose and cheeks were swollen and bloody. Her rescuer offered her his hand. As she took it memories poured into her mind and engulfed it. She saw a handsome dog with golden brown eyes looking up at her as their noses touched. Her heart fluttered and started to beat rapidly. The scene changed to a sickly child in a bed who became colder with each passing day. Then she heard the piecing howl enter the room and she knew all would be well.
As the memories stopped she looked at the man curiously. She says “thanks so much for saving me Mr. uhh?” he replies “my name is Parker, Parker Jones.” She smiles and says “I have heard that name aren’t you the lawyer who only takes cases of the poor” he smiles and says “yes I am.” She then looks down at the gun man and picks up her purse. She then looks at him more closely. He has dirty blonde hair and his face is a bit unshaved. He has a small nose and lips. His clothes are well worn and abit dirty from the fight. He is wearing a pair of converse high tops. She chuckled and thought it was a bit odd for a lawyer to be dressed so casually. His eyes were a dark brown color, but they showed he was a kind and gentle man. He seemed familiar and had the feeling he felt the same way about her. Like they had met somewhere but had forgotten the date and place. He says “what is your name?” she snaps out of the daze and says “My name is Jenny Taylor.”
He says “aren’t you the clothing designer” she says “yes I am, why do you ask?” he replies “well you designed a dress for my sisters wedding.” She says “well I hoped she liked it” he replies “yes she did.” The police arrived a few minutes later and arrested the unconscious gunmen and went looking for the other. Jenny was taken over to an ambulance and where her wound was taken care of. She asked Parker how he had gotten to her so fast. He told her he was on his way to the police station when he heard a gunshot and ran to find out where it came from. He saw her and the two men pointing their guns at her and he decided to help out. He told her that he had been mugged some years ago and didn’t want anyone else to suffer the same fate. She said thank you and left to go back to her apartment deciding to take the day off since she had too many adventures already. Parker was given a ride to the police station where he was going to meet with his new client. He felt though that it would not be the last he would see of Jenny Taylor.
Once he arrived at the station he got out of the cruiser and watched as the police carried the gunman away. He walked through the front door and told the man at the front desk he was here to see Ben LeClair. The officer directed him down the hall and waited as another officer unlocked the door to the cells. The boy he suspected to be Ben was sitting quietly on his cot and looked up at him saying "so I take it your my lawyer" He nods his head saying "yes I am here to represent you" Ben gave him a look over saying "I thought lawyers were supposed to be dressed in a suit and carry a briefcase instead of wearing a worn out Yale sweatshirt and Converse shoes." Parker laughed saying "yes well most of them tend to do that but I find suits uncomfortable and I only wear one when I am in court but these I prefer to wear since they are more comfortable." Ben smiles and says "whatever" Parker sat down next to him on the cot and said "well would you care to tell me how you landed in jail?" Ben turns his head away and says "well I was forced to rob that store, you see a bunch of these guys at school forced me to do it or else they would beat up my friends. I decided that it was better if I get in trouble than my friends getting beat up. Well snuck into the store past the manager who was helping someone at the register. I went to the back were the Ipods were and grabbed one. I made a dash for the door but tripped and fell on a shelf. The rest of them sort of dominoed one after another by this time the manager had noticed me and told me not to move so I didn't." Parker says "why didn't you run" Ben replies "well there wasn't any point to it, the manager had seen what I looked like and I knew it was only a matter of time before the cops found me. So I stayed put until they came and took me away." As Parker looked at this boy more memories came into his head. He watched as his son Kodi came running through town proudly carrying a load of mail with his team. The scene changed he was now clinging to the side of a cliff being pulled backwards. Just as he slipped he stopped being dragged he looks up to see Kodi standing there. The memories faded away and he was left with Ben staring curiously at him. Ben says "did something weird just happen to you" he nods. Ben says "what do you think it means" he shrugs and says "I don't know but that isn't important right now." Ben says "ok then what is?" Parker stands up and says "well first I am going to pay your bail and have your parents come pick you up" Ben replies "I don't have any parents I live in a foster home" Parker asks "where are your real parents?" Ben says "dead they died in a car crash when I was three" he replies "I am sorry to hear that, well regardless I will call your foster parents to have them come pick you up." He walks out of the cells thinking "that is the second time this has happpened to me, what the heck is going on with me?" The officers let Ben out after Parker pays for his bail he watches as his step parents Kate and Tom pick him up in a beat up sedan. As they drive off his fiance pulls up and he says "how did you know I was here?" she replies well your either at your office or here and since I went to your office and no one was their except for your secretary I figured I would come here." He got into the passenger seat and watched as the police station faded from his view. He mulled over the memories in his head and decided he would find out what they mean.
