Balto returned back to the town. “Big problem isn’t it?” Boris came up to Balto. “If you ever came into trouble again, you know that I am right behind you.” “That’s very comforting… but we have to be careful.” Balto saw just how Steele disappeared between the buildings, followed by his team…
Revenge…
“Finally I am
back in this dreadful place” said Steele. “What’s so special about this place,
Steele?” “THIS place,” While Steele pushed
his nose against his team dog. “This place is home to a Wolfdog that has ruined
my pride as sled dog. Now we are back, so I can take revenge on him.” “And how
would you like to do that?” Asked another team dog. “ If you attacked him on
the streets you could have al the towns people turning against us.” “So what??”
Said Steele. “We only have to be here for ten days, I will not let this chance
pass by. There must be some way to get revenge on him without letting know it
to the to unmans directly! Maybe if I….” Steel froze for a moment, “Yesss,
hahaha YEsss, I know how….
HAHAHA
Balto, you’re so weak… hahahaha….”
The next
day did Spike nothing else then working on his condition, when he saw Kodi
leaving again he knew that he had to be on his team. Finally he arrived by the
boat where Balto lived, “Balto?, BALTO? “ “Where behind the boat” heard Spike,
he walked around the boat and saw Boris en Balto. “We where discussing safety measures
against Steele”, said Boris. “Yeah,
listen Spike your not going alone back to the town, I bring you to the boilers
and there you will stay until next morning.” “Is Steele that dangerous?” “Well… he’s not the devil, but he would come
close it. But we don’t know how much Steele is changed, if he did… I don’t
wane take any risk so I bring you home and Jenna will watch over you when you
are on the streets.” “Right” said Boris. “And don’t think you can handle it
yourself, we bring you home, little one…” Spike hated it, but knew they where
right, he walked with Balto back to Nome.
The streets looked empty but there was enough light from houses and windows to
get a save feeling. “Here we are, now go back inside and you will be save with the
other dogs.”
“But now
you have to go back alone Balto.” “Don’t worry I’ll be fine.” Balto closed the
door behind Spike and walked trough the streets back to his boat. Carefully he
looked around while he walked back, then he started to run. Balto disappeared
in the darkness back to his boat. “Hee, little guy, how was your training? “Good misses Dipsy, tomorrow I am going to
run all day again but with a empty sled behind me to see if I can do it.” “Good
work, then you should sleep early you need to build up your strength.” “I will
misses Dipsy” and Spike returned to his spot next to the boiler. There he laid
down and fell to sleep. The rest of the group stayed awake for a while, talking
about Steele and other things.
Later that
evening a voice yelled at the other side of the door: “Open the door, its me.” Everyone
knew who it was, it was Steele. One of the dogs yelled back: “Steele your not
welcome here, go back to your own place.” For a brief moment it was quiet,
“Well, then I have to let myself in.” The door shot out of the hinges, proud in
the door-way was Steele standing. With his nails next to broken hinges, he knew
the trick of removing the pins out of the hinges as well. “That was not very polite
of you guys.” While he walked in, with behind him the other Alaskan dogs. “Well
don’t worry, I didn’t expect any other welcome, for me and my friends.” “What
do you want Steele?” “Nothing, but a lot of things has changed over the years, so
lets see if anything here has changed…” Steele looked around; “No, nothing has changed, oh wait, wait, what
do we have here?” His eyes fell on Spike who notices nothing of what was going
on, he was asleep. Steele walked over to him. “Soo, we meet again, little
wolfdog, like if one wasn’t enough around here.” Spike still didn’t notice a
thing. Steele lifted his paw up, and stamped it right on Spikes tail.
Spike waked up screaming, he wanted to stand up to look at his tail, but he was pushed down by Steele. “Hello, little punk”, whispered Steele in his ear. “Stop that Steele!” Dipsy stepped forward. Immediately the dogs of Steele` team went standing in between the group and Steele and Spike. “Make my day and take one step closer” yelled Steele back. Steele released Spike who immediately took a look at his tail, there was nothing to see except some hair was missing and it hurt. ”So…another wolfdog, why am I not surprised that you are here?” Spike, still with his head at his tail didn’t hear the question at all. “ANSWER ME, Hairball!” Steele was standing almost on top Spike, staring in to his eyes.
“I… I am a
wolfdog, what’s wrong with that?” “Well let me tell you what’s wrong with that,
little one... Wolf dogs are nothing, no wolf, no dog, and no suitable sled-dogs…”
Spike though for a second: “Has this something to do with Balto?” while he stands
up. “What about him?” asked Steele while he turned his back on Spike. “Well he
is a hero… he saved Rosie, and because you where lost, Balto had to take over.”
Steele kicked his back paws in the belly of Spike. Spike smashed against the
wall and felled back on the ground, while Spike was couching, Steele turned around.
“Listen rat, Balto has ruined my pride, and you are the one who’s going to pay
for it. “But what have I to do with it?” couched Spike. “Its nothing personal
kid, but if I hurt you first, then Balto is gonna feel the pain twice as hard.”
Steele who had quiet down a bit raised his paw, Spike could see the nails
coming out of Steele’s paw. Without any warning Steele planted his paw on the belly
of Spike, Spike could feel the nails penetrating his skin. Steele laughed, his
revenge was began. He kept his nails in the belly of Spike who lost his voice
from the shock. Steele made it worse when he turned his paw to the left and
right still with his nails imbedded in the belly of Spike. Finally what seems
like a eternity to Spike, removed Steele his paw. “STEELE!!! You cannot do this to him”, one of
Steele’s team dogs came forward… it got quiet again. “I can do
that, and I can do even more!” Steele completely lost it, he placed his paws on
the throat of Spike. He started to put some pressure on Spike’s throat, Spike started
to suffocate.
“STEELE!!!
Stop it!!!” This time it was Jenna who came in and saw what was going on.
Steele removed his paws and turned around, like nothing was happened he said:
“Good evening Jenna, long time no see.” Jenna: “You leave him alone Steele, he
has nothing done to you!” Steele walked past his team-dogs and Jenna to the
door. “Come guys we are leaving, and you white hear ball, wherever you go, you
and your friends will not be save!” While the
last dog left the boiler-room, Jenna turned her attention to Spike. His wounds
where bleeding but Spike had bigger injuries seen in his life. “Are you
alright?” while Jenna bend over him. “With a husky voice answered Spike: “Yes,
just leave me alone for second,” Jenna turned to the group: “First thing in the
morning I am going to see Balto, Steele has gone too far.” Then she lied down
next to Spike to watch over him…
Spike could
not sleep, his thoughts kept him awake.
He could
not fight back, Steele or his team could injure him to much, and then could never
be a sled dog. If he stayed, then his friends would not be save. Jenna had already
taken a great risk. And Balto was vulnerable with him around, and not to mention
the other dogs.
He had to disappear,
so his friends didn’t have to protect him anymore, and didn’t risk getting into
a fight with Steele. Slowly he stood up and walked out of the room. His wounds
where just enough healed so he didn’t bleed anymore. He looked back one more
time, then he disappeared in the night.
“Balto… Balto…!!!
Wake up, quick.” Jenna had discovered the next morning that Spike was gone, she
ran back to Balto`s place to warn him. “What’s
going on Jenna?” Balto was just awake and still a bit sleepy. “Spike is gone,
he was threaded that if would stay, they would attack us if we would help to
protect him. He almost got killed yesterday if I didn’t stop Steele.” Balto was completely
awake, Boris heard what Jenna had told. “So if Steele cannot get revenge on Balto,
then he does it on is friends.” “Yes, its one of my weaknesses”, said Balto. “Now
my friends are suffering because of what I felled was the right thing to do. We
have to find Spike back, we have to let him know that he doesn’t have to run
away to protect us. See who you can find, and let them help with the search for
Spike.” “But that’s impossible, how we find white wolfdog in white snow?” Said
Boris. “We have to try it” and Balto run of into the woods to find Spike.
Balto and
the other dogs kept searching day after day, but with no result. They had to
be careful, the Steele gang was searching for Spike to, that way they tortured
Balto because they could find him first. And what would happen then? To make
things worse, the blizzard started to pick up again, and they had to call of
the search. Days went
by, but for the search they had to wait for clear weather. Boris made long
distance flights to search for something that was just as white as the snow. Steele kept
himself on the background, while he saw the desperation of Balto and his friends.
He could not enjoy it enough. Then, after a few days waiting the sun came form
behind the clouds and Balto resumed his search. Unfortunately
Steele resumed his search for Spike to, it was now a race of who would find him
first, if Spike was still in the neighbourhood of Nome. To get a bigger a chance of finding
Spike first Balto and his friends split up to cover more area. Who would find
him
