Prologue:
We have left behind our pasts and differences and formed an alliance. Boa remains eerily silent, only putting one paw in front of the other. Tali worries, wouldn't dare reveal it to her sibling. She wants to talk to Boa, but the silent wolf strays to trail behind her sisters.
Chapter 1: Misleading Alpha
The sisters walk, slowly keeping an eye on the surroundings. “Natalie?” Maya asked out of breath. Natalie turned to Maya, ears up. “Where is your territory?”
Tali stared looked down and kept walking a steady pace.
A bad sign, Maya thought. The trail led to a small den covered with grass and vines.
“We can stay here.” Tali directed them to the small opening. Maya looked displeased but kept quiet. Boa looked the same, no expression, she stopped not even looking up as she turned and walked a different direction from her sisters.
“She needs some time alone.” Tali sighed and curled up next to Maya.
Tali woke, the sun barely above the tree line. She stood and trotted away, Maya shifted around then finally opened one eye grumbling
“Where are… you going?” Tali giggled as Maya fell back asleep. Tali sniffed the air as a new scent drifted slowly by. Curious, she followed it to a creek where a white wolf stood.
The wolf stared not knowing what to do. Shrugging, tail tucked the small wolf made her way to Natalie. “I’m a… err…… loner, I was wondering, well since you have a pack I… well want to join?!” the little wolf stuttered trying to find the right words.
“Well..!” Natalie was about to answer when a thought hit her.
“I’m not the alpha!” she said thoughtfully. Maybe this might help her siblings a bit, a new life for them. “O… ok I guess…” she whispered. “No, no, no come with me we will let her decide!” Tali joyfully yipped as she bounded her way back to the den, with a new comer happily followed.
“Maya!” Tali barked “where is she!?”
“That a newbie?!” Maya asked interested. “I don’t know we have to ask the alpha!” Tali yelled over her shoulder as she raced past Maya. A confused Maya followed, not completely knowing what Tali meant. Racing through the woods, following the scent of the last member, the first time Tali felt relaxed and happy.
Suddenly the image of her sister flashed in her face. Both tumbling through the air, Maya laughed at that accident. Boa was on her paws instantly staring at the three. Confused she looked towards Tali. “Heh, sorry about that but Alpha, but we have a newcomer asking to join,” she said standing up straight.
Her sister’s jaw dropped for a second before she had a serious look, the only thing that betrayed her was the anxiety in her eyes. She walked around the newbie, taking interest in every scent she had on her. She stopped in front of the wolf and twisted her ears. Nothing happened. Boa repeated it.
The wolf stared blankly kinda embarrassed. Tali just realized that she was talking; she was using the silent language! Wolves almost never used it anymore only some, since they had learned to speak.
“She said yes!” Tali quickly jumped between the two rubbing on Boa then the newbie. “What’s your name?” Maya asked before joining scent trading. “My name is…Kiwi.” The wolf answered gladly licking the chins of her new pack mates.
“Welcome, Kiwi.” Tali said “I am Natalie, and these are my sisters Maya and Boa.”
“That is nice you still get to stay with them.” Kiwi said solemnly. “Well it wasn’t always that way.” Maya called walking back down the path. “What does she mean?” Kiwi asked irritated. “Nothing, you will learn soon enough, let us all just forget the past and enjoy the future.” Tali answered as mid-day arrived. Boa swished her tail. Tali interpreted “Let’s hunt.”
They fished for their meal but as she was supposed to return to the den Boa led them a different direction. They followed acting like they knew where they were going, (except kiwi). She led them off their territory, to a green pasture enclosed by trees. A river flowed through. She took them to a dried stream bed, by then it was sundown.
“Were you leading us?!” Maya asked losing her temper. Boa quickly led them farther back closer to the tree line. She stopped and sniffed the air. She pointed her nose up and slowly peeked back above the river. The others did the same and were amazed to see that a huge herd of deer were grazing the grass.
“Still more?” Kiwi asked utterly amazed. Boa nodded and started to run. Lightly and swiftly they moved through the crisp night air silently. Their shadows dancing beside them as their alpha led her sisters to the most amazing thing they could think…
