sadly down at Kaltag and Nikki and mutters saying “ I am sorry” Mr. Simpson walks over to Balto and carefully places him into the sled then he does the same to Lyon. He looks at his friend and says “I will be back for you” he says “hike” the team races towards Nome.

Jenna waits eagerly on the edge of town, trying to see if Kodi and the others will appear on the horizon. She hears Kodi howl, in happiness she howls back as dark shapes appear. On the sled she can see Balto’s head poking out of a sleeping bag she also sees Lyon laying with eyes closes sleeping. As the sled pulls into town people run out of their homes to greet the team as they arrive. They first remove Balto, Jenna sees his legs and starts to cry saying “oh Balto” He looks at Jenna saying “well I am back” Balto is taken into the vets office where his bones are set and his legs put into casts. Then Lyon is brought in and fed to keep his strength up.

Mr. Simpson tells where the sled wrecked and the other musher’s harness up their teams to set out and get the bodies of Mr. Hughes and his dogs. When Balto is well enough to talk he tells Jenna and Kodi what had happened and that Star, Kaltag and Nikki were dead. The other sled teams return a two days later with the bodies of the dogs and their musher. Mr. Hughes is laid to rest in the local cemetery while the dogs are buried by their owners. Balto is nursed back to health and his legs heal up, Lyon is also nursed back to health and as soon as he is better he continues to run on the mail sled team. Balto is happy that he is able to live with Jenna and Kodi and is grateful that the found him just in time.
