Balto's Suffering



"Daddy!! Let's go down to the beach and play!" said Balto's daughter Sunny. "No darling not today." Balto responed. "Oh Balto honey take Sunny down to the beach. Every day since last month she's asked you and you'v said no" said Jenna. Since Balto was partly deaf he couldn't hear Jenna.

Balto just layed down on the rug thinking of the life he's had. He had been a hero. He had the perfect girl. And he had had four litters of wonderful sweet wolf-pups. "Hey wolf boy! What's wrong!" laughed steele as he walked up to Balto. Balto didn't hear or see steele. He was also partly blind. Balto then saw steele and just walked away growling and mumbling "big jerk of a husky"

Balto could bearly walk. His back legs were killing him. Once he couldn't walk another step he just dropped down. Groaning with pain, Balto rolled around off his stomech to his side. As he layed in the snow, he slowly shut his eyes and fell asleep.

About three hours later he was woken by Sunny. " Hey daddy now can we go the beach" asked Sunny excitedly. Right in the middle of saying "Darling daddy is veary old and weak" Balto let out a huge howl. Sunny had been jumping all over him and she jumped on his back legs! It hurt him like being stabbed. "Balto" wispered Jenna as she heard his howl. She ran to him as fast as she could. She saw him laying in the snow grunting as Sunny walked over to Jenna with a guilty look on her face. Jenna looked at Sunny with a disapointed look on her face. "Sunny your daddy suffers with pain! I told you not be jumping an him!"said Jenna to Sunny. "I'm sorry mama." said Sunny as she put her front paws on Jenna's legs. "Don't tell me sorry. Tell your father." said Jenna.

"Sorry daddy" said Sunny as tears dripped down her snout. "That's another thing Sunny. You have to get closer. You know he's partly deaf and blind." said Jenna

Sunny went over to Balto and said sorry. "It's okay sweetie." said Balto." I just..."   "Just what Balto" asked Jenna. "Oh it's just... Nevermind." said Balto. "Okay. Come on Sunny. It's getting dark. Let's go home"said Jenna. Balto tried to stand up ,but he hurt to much. He grunted as he tried then just plopped down with a sigh. "Aren't you coming Balto?" asked Jenna as she turned around. "Nah. I just come later."said Balto as he looked over the hill at the northern lights. "You sure? It's pretty dark already" said Jenna. Balto couldn't hear. Jenna sighed then wispered to herself "It's almost time" as a few tears rolled down her snout. "Come on Mama!" yelled Sunny from the distands. "I'm coming dear." said Jenna as she took her last look at Balto."Come on honey.Ya just gotta tough it out." said Jenna in a cry type voice.Then Jenna turned around, sighed peaking over her shoulder at Balto, and walked home with Sunny

Jenna just layed down thinking about Balto while Sunny played when they got home.  "Sunny dear, I want to talk to you" said Jenna. Sunny walked over to Jenna. "What is it mama? Why are you acting so sad?" asked Sunny. Jenna sighed and said "It's your father" said Jenna in a sad vioce. Sunny ghasped. "Whatis wrong with daddy!" asked Sunny in a panicing voice. "Well honey... I think it's time for daddy to die soon" said Jenna. Sunny just sat for a minute with her mouth slighty open. "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!" screamed Sunny as she pushed their abanded cabin home door open with her nose. "Sunny! No!" said Jenna as she looked outside breathing hard. She couldn't see Sunny. It was to dark.

Sunny ran to the hill she last saw Balto lying on. Balto was still laying there. "Sunny what are you doing! It's daungerous!" said Balto when he saw Sunny. "Sunny!" said a voice when Jenna apeared in sight. Jenna ran over to Balto. He was half frozen and his back legs hurt like crazy. "Balto. Your suffering to much. There is no reason to stay this way."cried Jenna as tears went down her snout. "Your right honey, but I can't leave you and Sunny. You two are my family. I love you guys."said Balto as wind blew in the distands. "Oh Balto. That's so sweet." cried Jenna as she slightly smiled. She layed her head on Balto as she kept cring.

Sunny and Jenna took Balto home. They then all went to sleep.

The next morning Balto went to the vet. Even thought he limped and dragged his back legs the whole way he still hurt very bad. He saw steele on the way."Hey wolf boy why are ya limpin'!"laughed steele. Balto snarled as steele laughed. He picked up his legs and forced himself to walk. It hurt ten times more, but he couldn't let steele laugh at him anymore!! Balto walked faster on his legs. Pain bolted down his legs. He was about to fall ,but he forced to stay up. Steele was empressed.

Balto began to run. His legs hurt more than ever. His arthritis had been going on for years and it has been geting worse by the week. Then it hurt so bad Balto could bearly feel it. All of a sudden he dropped. Steele started cracking up. Then a snarl came up behind steele. "Oh Jenna.It's you"said steele."You leave him alone!"snarled Jenna. "Balto?Are you okay?"said Jenna as she walked over to Balto."It hurts"said Balto very weakly.

"Daddy?You shouldn't done that."said Sunny. "Sweetheart I can bearly breath."said Balto in an even weaker voice. "Balto why would you hurt yourself.Just forget what steele thinks.Everyone knows he's nothing but a trouble maker"said Jenna. "It's time."said Balto in the weakest voice. Sunny lied her head on Jenna's chest as she started to cry. Jenna cried too. 

Sunny walked over to Balto."Daddy. I'm going to miss you" cried Sunny as she lied down on her head on her father. "Sugar take care of your mother for me. I'll miss you."said Balto weakly. Then Jenna went over to Balto. "Now you my Jenna. Your the one that made my life. If it wasn't for you it would just be steele and I.If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have all my wonderful children or Sunny.And last you helped me forget my bad experiances. I'll miss you." said Balto weakly. "Oh Balto. I'll miss you. You will be in a better place. Rest peacefully my honey."said Jenna as she let out her last tears.

Jenna and Sunny walked home cring. Then as Balto layed he smiled, thought about all the wonderful things during his long life, then closed his eyes, and fell asleep never to be woken again.

now Balto rests and is no longer suffering
