it! He thought to himself.

Niju felt completely confident that Aleu was the one that he was going to spend the rest of his life with. He couldn’t wait to tell her his feeling for her… or so he thought at the moment. He was still, in some sense, pretty nervous to tell her what he felt. He just didn’t know what to say, and he didn’t know how Aleu would take it. It was the possibility of the two of them getting together that excited him. If Niju and Aleu got together, it would be the time of his life.

Niju: Oh, God. I can feel it! I know she’s the one!

Niju couldn’t help but smile and shout to himself. He felt so happy. This was the first time that he had ever fell in love in his life, and he had never felt so positive that his first crush would be his only crush, that’s how confident he felt about Aleu. He just wanted to shout it from the top of the biggest mountain in Alaska. Sadly, he only had a small open spot in the woods.

Luckily, Aleu was only going to come in the afternoon. That gave Niju plenty of time to think about what he was going to say to her. He figured he would stay in the cave, just incase she came early. It was a bit hard for him, putting together what he was going to say. He had so many things that he just wanted to say strait to her face, but it wasn't that easy. He didn't know how Aleu was going to react to his feelings for her. This was going to be harder than he thought. But he figured he had plenty of time.

Niju: Alright, Niju. Let's get this together.

Chapter 36

Aleu was in the patient’s room with Farris. He was awake, but he was still a little tired. He was lying on his left side. Aleu laid her head on the side of the patient’s bed.

Aleu: How are you doing? Hanging in there?

Farris: You better believe it. My chest is killing me. I don’t know how I’m even able to talk at the moment.

Aleu: Don’t worry. You’ll get better in no time at all.

Farris: That’s easy for you to say. You aren’t the one that was mauled by a moose.

Aleu: Yeah… guess not.

Farris saw Aleu’s face. She looked a little sad. Farris hated seeing her like this. Why was I so stupid? He thought to himself. Why did I try to take that moose by myself? Farris was mad when he took on that moose. He had never had an argument with Aleu in his life, and he never wanted to. It was the first time it happened, so he was obviously upset about it. He never wanted to worry about Aleu like this ever again. He wasn’t going to do this anymore.

Farris: Aleu I am so sorry… for trying to take that moose on my own.

Aleu quickly looked up and into Farris’s eyes.

Aleu: Farris you have nothing to be sorry about. I shouldn’t have-

Farris: No, Aleu. I should be sorry… I was angry.

Aleu paused. He knew that he was telling the truth, but she didn’t want to admit it. She felt too bad about what happened.

Farris: I shouldn’t have been so worried about you. You’re old enough to take care of yourself, and I knew that… but I couldn’t stop being concerned about your safety, believe it or not.

Aleu: Really?

Farris: Yeah… When I said it’s my job as your friend to protect you, I really meant it… But I guess I was being too protective for your age. And I understand now that I shouldn’t have been so worried. And I’m sorry.

Aleu: Oh, Farris. It’s alright to be worried about me… I know what you’re trying to say. I’m happy to know that you care about me this much. It’s alright.

Farris: For now on, let’s not argue again. Ok?

Aleu sighed and then looked at Farris with a smile.

Aleu: Farris. All friends fight. It doesn’t matter if they are barely friends, or really close friends. They all fight.

Farris agreed with her but he didn’t want to admit it. He never wanted to fight with Aleu.

Aleu: But we’ll try not to. Ok?

Farris: Alright, Aleu. We’ve just never fought before… and I never wanted us to. The way you yelled at me like that… You never even yelled at me before.

Aleu: And neither have you.

Farris had to admit, that was true.

Farris: Yeah. I guess you’re right.

Aleu jumped on the side of the patient’s bed, keeping her hind legs on the floor.

Aleu: Let’s make a promise. Ok? Whenever we get into an argument, one of us will have to try and see what we are doing, and try to stop it. Nothing can really stop an argument from happening, but it can be stopped from continuing. Alright?

Farris thought about it for a while, and then smiled. She was right.

Farris: Ok, Aleu. I promise.

Aleu smiled, looking in Farris’s eyes.

Aleu: Me too.

Aleu then friendly nuzzled Farris, and he nuzzled back.

Aleu: Get better, alright?

Farris: I’ll try.

Aleu jumped down and started to head out the door.

Aleu: Ok, I’ll see you later, Farris.

Farris: Alright. Bye.

Aleu: See ya.

Farris continued to smile as Aleu walked out the door leading outside from the patient’s room. He was so glad he was able to work that out with Aleu. He never wanted to argue with Aleu again. It’s too much for him to take. Plus they have too much of a good time when they are together. He was always happy with Aleu, and she was always happy as well.

Farris started to think to himself… Am I in love with her? They were really good friends. But that was the thing. They were friends and nothing more… or were they. Farris began to think that he was falling for Aleu. Farris thought really hard about it. He remembered what Aleu had said a few days ago when they got here. “And we are only friends so don’t get any ideas.” That little quote killed him. He really hoped that it wasn’t really how Aleu felt, for after a long while of thinking, Farris had finally figured it out… He was in love with Aleu.
