It was a nice warm day. At a house in Nome, crashes and other things were heard from inside.
"Jenna!" Rosy shouted as she ran " Come on! We have to take you to get your shots!" She ran, trying to catch her. No use, the only thing gained was a messed up room.
" There is no way I'm going to get shots! A better idea, how about we have some candy? No, you went to the dentist two weeks ago." Jenna thought as she dodged Rosy.
Rosy's parent's entered the room. Her mother gasped at the sight.
" Rosy! What did you do?" Her mom exclaimed while examing the room."
"Uhhh... Jenna and I decided to play tag?" Rosy answered, hoping that would cover it up.
"Tag?" Her father asked. " More like tornado."
He sighed, and started to pick up some toys. He stopped, and looked at Rosy.
"Well? Starting cleaning up, young lady." He said to Rosy.
"Yes, sir!" Rosy exclaimed, holding up her arm in front of her fore head.
The little red and cream husky looked at everyone. She grabbed her tiara and put it away, then running up to the door. She nugded it open and ran outside, being unnoticed.
" Hmm, I think I'll go to Dixie's." Jenna said to herself. " At least I won't get my shots."
She ran further into town, and turned a corner, knowing her way very well.
A brown and cream wolf dog ran through the alley way, and jumped onto a trach can lid, he slid across the snow.
" Weeeeeee!!!" He shouted as he enjoyed the little ride. Once finished, Balto grabbed the lid with his teeth and put it where it was before.
A white goose with brown and black feathers looked around the corner and saw Balto jumping onto the lid again, and enjoying yet again another piggy back ride.
" Oy, Boychick!!" Boris shouted. " Get off there and let's go!"
Balto looked back, but lost his balance and fell off the lid, face-first, into the snow.
" I'm okay!" He said, his voice being pretty muffled by the snow.
Balto sat up and shook off the snow, throwing it onto Boris. the goose spat out the snow, very annoyed.
" Hahaha, you like to eat snow, Boris?" Balto asked curiosly, yet annoyingly. He already knew the answer.
" Phtooey! Now listen, we will find some herring, and then go back to the boat." Boris exclaimed as he took off the snow.
Balto still wondered. "What's herring?" It'd been two weeks ago he'd found Nome, Boris always muttered about the stuff, but they'd never found it. Boris had to eat grass for the time being. He'd been very grumpy lately.
" Are you coming or not?" Boris asked the pup, who was still wondering.
" Sure!" He stood up and Boris started into town. But before getting out of the alley way, he stopped in his tracks, and marched in place, making it sound like he was still walking. As Boris walked further, he stopped and ran into a hole in the fence.
Balto ran, wanting to explore Nome as much as he could, although he already knew Nome. He panted happily at everyone, not looking where he ran, until he bumped into someone.
" That's the fith time this week. And it's barely monday. I'll say it once more, watch where you and your fleas are going, Bailey!!" Steele yelled.
" It's Balto." He smiled. "Oh, sorry. I was just wondering who'd be the first dog to whine and ask." Balto answered. He smiled innocently.
" Are you calling me a wimp!?" Steele once again yelled. (in case you haven't noticed he had temper problems)
" Nope." Balto said, sitting up.
" Well, you better hope not." Steele whispered visciously to Balto. He grinned, and walked away. " Nikki, Star, and Kaltag, let's go." He told them, and walked away with his posee.
Balto looked at them, and waved his paw, as if Steele was his friend. Then he got up and trotted, still looking up at the sight, but at the same time looking where he walked. (for once)
This time, it was a pup who ran into him. Balto looked clumsily at the sky, dizzy. He shook his head and got up, to see a red and cream puppy getting up.
" Jenna? What are you doing here?" Balto asked while she got up.
" Uh... I was on my way to Dixie's" Jenna answered, telling the truth, but leaving some details out.
" I thought she'd spend the day with her owner?" Balto asked her.
" Oh, I guess I forgot about that. How about I play with you?" Jenna questioned, hoping yes as a response.
" Okay!" Balto nodded. He ran as fast as he could, Jenna following, trying to catch him. They got a bit far, but then both heard Rosy and her father shouting "Jenna!"
" Oh, I guess you better go." Balto said, a bit sad that she had to leave so soon.
" No, I...I-I... I can stay a bit longer." Jenna answered, uneasily.
" Jenna, what about Ro-"
"Balto!!" Boris called from the other side.
" Ahh! We gotta hide!" He ran behind the trash bin, Jenna followed.
They both saw Rosy's parents and her walking by.
" Jenna!" Rosy shouted. "Mom, we have to find Jenna. She needs to take her shots."
Jenna winced.
" I know honey, keep searching." She told Rosy, and kept calling for Jenna.
" You won't take your shots?" Balto whispered as Boris walked by quickly.
" I don't really like them." She answered quietly, remembering her mother.
" Well, two pups on the run." Balto said. " But Jen, you can't run forever."
Jenna hadn't thought about that, being away from Rosy was too much.
" Maybe you're right." She admitted. " Can we go think it out?"
" Yeah." Balto answered happy. ( He's never been given shots.)
Just as they were about to go out, two dogs grabbed them by the scruff.
" Going anywhere?" The dark brown asked.
" Yeah, how'd you guess?" Balto asked curiously. Jenna looked at him in disbeleif.
" What?" Balto asked when seeing her look.
" Maybe you dogs need a lesson." The other dog said. " This is our alleyway."
" Well how were we supposed to know?" Jenna asked.
" Oh, sorry." the dark brown dog continued. " I thought wolves could smell better than us."
Balto felt a growl escape his throat. The dogs just chuckled, and started further into the alley.
Jenna looked around worriedly and whimpered. Then, Balto kicked into the dogs chest and ran away while he could. The dog ran towards him, and jumped. Unconciously Balto turned left and into a really big pile of boxes. The dog got up and growled. He started sniffing out the boxes.
From inside, Balto kicked up a bit of snow and stepped silently back. He looked as a nose appeared sniffing. He stiffened up and stayed still.
The dog quit, and looked at the big pile. He thought while looking, and then walked up to a stack. he struggled, but pushed it down. It fell, and a familiar yelp came from inside. Jenna started to shiver a bit.
The dog smirked and moved the boxes. There was Balto, with a worn out pot on his back legs. He layed on his side, wincing. The alley dog grabbed him by the scruff, ignoring how much he whimpered and yelped when being moved from the pot's sharp edges.
Then they were taken deeper, as Jenna heard Rosy's faint voice. Then they put the pups inside a box with diamond shaped holes all around it. They were too little to escape.
" Hey, watch it!" Balto yelped while being thrown inside. "Oww."
" Are you okay?" Jenna asked.
" Hmm, other than my legs are a bit numb and are bleeding, yeah, I'm okay." Balto responded while trying to get up. He quit and started to lick his legs.
" I wish I'd just obey and go get my shots." Jenna said as more alley dogs appeared.
" What are shots like? Why do you hate them so much?" Balto asked.
" People put a needle in one part of your body. It hurts." Jenna answered. " I don't like them because, well, they're the reason my mommy's dead."
" Oh, I'm sorry." Balto answered, kind of whispering.
" And what about your mom? I only see you with Boris." Jenna asked, wondering in her mind if he's part goose too.
" Boris kinda adopted me, I don't remember much about my mom." Balto responded with the same voice tone as before.
" Do you remember what happened before?" Jenna wondered. " Before you got separated?"
Balto felt his eyes swell up with tears. " We were running from hunters."
Jenna whispered. " I'm sorry." She walked to the other side and lied down. " I really am."
Balto sniffed, and felt tears run down his cheek. " I understand." He watched as Jenna closed her eyes, and then cried himself to sleep.
Jenna dreamed playing with her mom, playing in the most beautiful meadow ever. She laughed, and barked, until she heard a laugh from behind her. There was Balto, playing with a white wolf, she had gold eyes. Jenna smiled, and looked up at her mom.
She wasn't there. Jenna panicked, and heard a gunshot from the other side. She looked in the direction Balto was, and he was running away with his mother, he looked back, and was lifted by her mom.
Jenna also felt being lifted. She lookd up, but saw a shadow.
In that moment, Jenna woked up, startled. There was the black dog, carring her again. And on her side, Balto was also carried. His legs were red, and he was asleep, on the bright side, the blood had tried. He stirred, and opened his eyes slowly. When they were still half open, he looked around, and shook his head. The dog holding him sneezed.
He threw the pup, and Balto fell, but didn't say anything. He just looked up, and growled a bit.
Jenna was also thrown there, but she landed okay. Mainly because she wasn't hurt.
" We'll give you a choice, pup." The dog spoke up. " You can join us, and leave the hybrid, or die with him. Your choice."
Jenna looked up, and saw that they were serious. She looked at Balto, who struggled to sit up.
" No... friends stick together." She said, sounding braver than she felt. Balto smiled at her.
" Very well, you chose." He said simply,
