Balto crept through the dark woods. Where was the wolfdog Aleu? She hurt Steele. He saw her near at a cliff. She was on an iceburg beside the cliff.

 Balto crawled into the water and swam to the edge. He began to climb out, onto the iceburg.

  "Papa?" gasped Aleu. She looked shocked at the look of pure venom in his eye. "Papa! What are you doing?"

 Balto advanced on her, snarling. "Say goodnight, forever!"

   "Papa?" Aleu whispered. "NO! What's wrong with you?" She dodged his attack. "This isn't you!"

  "Yes it is," he growled. "Now stand still!"

  Aleu shrank back. "Papa! Don't! I found out who I am! I won't be so much trouble!"

  "You aren't trouble for me." Balto put on a face of realization. "You're troublr for Steele!" Balto lunged at her, teeth bared and Aleu slid out of the way.

 "Papa, you went missing!" Aleu said. "What happened?"

  "Nothing," growled Balto. "Now stand still! Will you?"

  "Papa!" Aleu was cornered. Balto began to shove her off the edge. Anotehr ice burg was approaching. When Aleu fell, she'd shurely drown!
