A wolf pup as black as midnight got ready to pounce on her victum then... "WUMPH!" She fell down on her stomach.
"HA! The gray shadow stricks once more!" laughed the voice of her sister.
"Get up you lump!" growled the black pup. The gray pup giggled and stood up.
"Hey, Spark I saved you from Ripple's pounce," the gray pup said.
"Like I can't take care of myself, Howler," muttered a brown pup. She had been Ripple's, the black one, target.
"What's going on?" asked their sister, a white wolf. All four were females.
"You could sleep through a hunter intruding, Sandy," laughed Ripple. Ripple was black with peridot green eyes. She loved to joke and loved water.
Howler was gray with red eyes. She liked to play fight and she loved the wind.
Spark was brown with saphire blue eyes. She was often sarcastic, in a joking way, and just loved freedom. Oh ya, she also loves to look at fire.
Sandy was white with yellow eyes. She really could sleep through alot but she was nice and was really in tune with the earth.
"No, I couldn't!" growled Sandy.
"Um..." Spark began, a glint in her eye.
"Oh, shut it!" growled Sandy.
"Um..." Spark grinned. "NAH!"
"Lay off her Spark," growled Howler.
"Why should I?" Spark snapped. "I'm just playin'!"
"Children, run!" screamed their mother's voice. Suprised, the pups turned to the den.
"Huh?" gasped Ripple. She glanced at the trees and heard a voice yell, "the wolves are close!"
Their mother rushed out of the den and gabbed Sandy. The other pups and their parents ran forward but Ripple, Spark, and Howler tripped and began to roll away.
Ripple and Spark rolled to the humans, while Howler rolled away from the humans and their parents. Ripple felt her body be picked up by a human and saw Spark atempting to fight the human that grabbed her. But Spark was shoved into a bag that was closed with a few small airholes in it.
"SPARK!" howled Ripple. Before she knew it, Ripple was in a bag as well.
It was dark in the bag and Ripple could barely see out. She felt herself being carried only a few feet away then being dropped.
She climbed out of the bag and saw that there were strange wolves around her.
"Welcome, new comer," said an older male.
"She is a pup!" cried a female.
"I'm Ripple," she said, softly. "Where am I?"
"A place humans call "zoo"," replied the older male. "I am Zuka."
"And I'm Kiyu," said the female. "Honey, come here." Ripple forced herself to approach Kiyu. "Where are you from?" Ripple explained her story to the "pack".
Spark fought the bag. She could take it! Her claws ripped the bag open and with a "Ha" she jumped out. However, Spark was on a fluffy thing!
"Do you like the couch?" asked a human. Spark growled. Couch? "This is your new home, as my pet, in my house."
PET?! Spark felt like she'd die. And, indeed, she fainted.
Howler rolled along the hard earth. "MOM?!" She stood up. "Where are you? Dad? Sandy? Ripple? Spark? Guys?"
Howler felt the wind brush on her fur and she smiled. "I have you don't I?" The wind seemed to reply with a burst that seemed like it was howling. "Thanks."
Howler sighed and began to walk. "I'm on my own. Away from wolves. Away from my previous life. I'm starting new and it's fine wiht me."
Howler's pride wouldn't allow her to disagree, so she allowed herself to think that way.
Sandy looked at her parents. "Guys, where's they go?" she whispered.
"We don't know," said her mother. "Sandy, they're gone. Humans picked up Spark and Ripple. Howler is still out there."
"Then we'll find her," insisted Sandy.
"We can only try and pray," replied her father. Sandy's ears lowered. What did the humans hate about them?
Months later...
"Hey, Spark!" yelled Peter's voice. Peter was a white male husky. "Why are you always in the backyard?"
Spark sighed and looked at the yard. Her friends could coem visit her but she was cooped up. "I'll run. I want my family, Peter."
"What about me?" Peter asked.
"I mean my sisters and parents," Spark snapped. "I'm sorry Peter. I'm just not meant to be locked up!"
"I know," Peter sighed. "You're full of spirit. It's not right but ya wanna play?" He crouched palyfully then swatted her on the nose. Spark smiled and bit at his ear.
Hours later, they were laying, exahsted, on the hard earth.
"You just try to wear me out," Peter laughed.
Spark grinned. "Maybe and mayeb not." Peter sat up and looked up at the moon, high in the sky.
"I should get going," he sighed. "See ya."
"Bye," responded Spark, watching him leave. She then looked at the moon. "Ripple would love the moon this full. But there's a chance that she's not alive now." Spark howled once.
Spark lay her head on her paws and fell asleep, tail twitching.
Ripple grinned at Justin. "Ready?"
"Let's move out," he replied. They snuck to Zuka. "NOW!" The two howled, right beside the old wolf's ears.
"You howling dogs! GET!" Zuka cried. The two snuck away, grining wider.
"Right so who now?" Justin smiled. Justin has a black coat with a white muzzle that seems to shine in the blackness of night.
The night's moon shone on the "zoo". The "zoo" was in the forest but there was a unseen barrier between Ripple's home and her prison. Humans called that "glass".
"What are you two up to now?" chuckled Kiyu's voice.
"Just a howlin' at the moon," replied Justin, "innocently".
"Sure," Kiyu responded, dryly. "Sure you are."
"Are the carrabu in?" Justin asked.
"Yup," said Kiyu. "Come on, guys." Ripple and justin leaped at the carrabu for "teens"(as humans called the wolves at their age).
"Justin." Ripple licked her lips. "I need to think about something. Alright?"
"You sure you son't want..." Justin began.
"I need to think," Ripple interupted. "see ya tomorrow." Justin bid her good night, and Ripple sat on he rown, a few feet away.
"Where are you guys?" she whispered. "Are you alive?" Her thoughts were interupted with a howl, she knew too well....
Howler tore at the doe. Her hunger slowly disaperated, as she ate the meat. Howler slowed her eating pace and licked her lips. Then she began to walk away.
Howler lived at her own pace, catching her own food. But she always stayed in the forest she grew up in. it was an accident that she had been seperated from them by accident. Because of humans. How was Sandy?
"Who are you?" asked a voice.
Howler spun around, fur bristling. "What do you want?" It was a male wolf/dog with red fur and a white underbelly.
"I was wondering who you were," replied the dog.
"I'm..." Howler hesitated. "You first."
"Dingo, son of Balto and Jenna," said the dog.
"Oh." Howler turned around, now satisfied.
"Wait! You said that you'd go after I did," Dingo called.
"Alright. 1) I said, "You first". 2) I changed my mind." Howler continued to walk away. But the dog ran after her.
Howler felt like crying. Couldn't he just go away?!
Sandy looked at Andrew. He grinned. "What'cha thinkin' bout?"
"Stuff," growled Sandy.
"What's stuff?" prodded Andrew.
"Sisters," Sandy replied.
"Again?" Andrew looked at her crossly. "I have one piec eof advice."
"Yes?" Snady looked at him.
"REALAX!" Andrew screamed.
"FORGET IT!" hollared Sandy. "NEVER EVER!"
"FINE!" Andrew was grinning. That was why Sandy broke.
"Okay!" she laughed. "Okay! I get it!"
"Do you?" Andrew put a crazy look on his face. "Really? I challenge you to a duel!"
"I accept," Sandy replied, in a raspy voice, much unlike her own. They began to wrestle then, "SANDY! HURRY UP!"
Sandy sighed. "Bye." She walked to her parents.
One year later...
Howler glanced at her shadow and smiled. She remembered the other month. Her life changed...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Howler ran into Nome. DARN DINGO! Couldn't he just LEAVE? Dingo followed her.
Why'd he have to be fast?! Howler then felt herself collide with a man. The biggest problem, he had a long, sharp butcher's knife!
The man was about to swing the knife down at her head when he was stopped. Howler looked up to see Dingo wrestling the man.
Dingo's paw was cut by the flailing knife. Dingo, finally, had him on the ground and turned to howler. "RUN!"
They fled into the forest and, when they arrived by the stream, Howler said, "My name's Howler."
---------------------------------------------------------------------
She looked at Dingo, laying beside her. Howler stretched and yawned, causing Dingo to stirr.
"I'm going on a walk," she whispered. Dingo nodded and Howler set off. She caught a scent that she hadn't ever been able to forget....
Sandy yawned and climbed through the trees. Andrew and herself had grown closer but not TOO close, mind you. She followed her nose.
She was on to something but what? Sandy crept towards trees and glanced around a tree. There was an all too farmiliar wolf standing beside a rock....
Spark looked at her friend. "Hey, Peter?"
"Ya?" he asked.
"Why are you here?" she whispered. Peter glanced at the sky and swore softly. They must have slept side by
