The Darkest of them all!
He sighed as he walked through the forest, thoroughly aware of his situation. With senses as keen as never before, he walked towards his destiny. After all; he had been exiled, and now had to cope with his own needs before anything else. But he could sense it; he sensed the power within his reach, so close he could nearly grasp it.... yet, so far away. However, this did not stray him from the path he had set himself out on; no, not at all. In fact, he simply became more determined by the minute. But the wolf had set himself too much of a goal, and he knew it, himself, although he would never admit it. The white wolf, gracious of stature, glorious of lore and powerful in strength, had fallen. The last one of them had disappeared... in the forest, searching for something which cannot be found... forever.....
The birth
I remember the temple as it used to be; a place of worship. Glorious among the dark forest, shining with the power of the great gods! The temple used to be shaped as the full-moon, you know? Big walls surrounding an open plateau, containing the world within... consuming it with its magnificence.
I remember too, when the Cats came... One day, a great attack was struck upon the temple walls. They gave in without resistance... such machines... The cat-abominations hurried into our beloved temple, burning everything in their path. I led many to safety, but many more paid the ultimate price!
I and the ones I rescued managed to escape alive, and we wandered our lands, in search of somewhere to live. But the more we wandered, the more we came to realize what abominations we were becoming. Once on all our four legs, we began wriggling at night, sleeping with great pain. This sleep caused us tremendous distress, and we were all afraid death was closing in upon us... Then we realized; we had been given the opportunity to fight back at our attackers!
But this should not last... we kept mutating, becoming more human-like by the day... until we began speaking the human language, walking as humans do... eating and drinking, hunting as they do...
We are no longer wolves... simply the abominations we have turned into. However, this small legend is far from over. I shall tell you one more... one, which has passed through our generations for many thousands of years. The story of the white wolf, whom brought peace to us all..........
The sun was not shining that day... nor did it rain. The gods did not smile upon the birth of the white wolf. His mother, whom had been healthy from her own childhood, caught a terrible disease after his birth, dying from her son when he was four years old... now; the Wolves follow the age-line of Man. The White Wolf grew to miss his deceased mother, but he never cried over her. Silently, he wept deep inside himself, but he never allowed himself to show his real emotions to others.
He slowly grew to become a powerful young man, and at the age of twelve, he began training in the arts of wielding a sword. His life did not change until he became fifteen, and a curse was cast upon the Wolves. One which did not affect himself. As of this, he laid down his sword, forever. Tired of training, tired of all the misery, he simply wished for peace and quiet. This was never granted for him.
The Wizard
I may be wrong at many points from now on, as this part of the story has been forgotten, and changed over the centuries. I do suspect, however, that the White Wolf was to be sent on a suicide mission.
“What?!” he yelled at the Elder. “You’re sending me to invade the Temple?!”
The Elder sighed, and eyed the young one. He was tall, strong. White was his fur, too, and muscular. He had a long tail, which could pose a problem for scouting missions, such as these, but his wolfish head contained a brain brighter than he had ever seen before.
“Yes, Kayel. Your mission is to invade the temple, steal all the information you can, and return to the town with it.” He answered the young wolf. The Elder, himself, was a tawny-coloured wolf, small in stature, yet being looked at with great respect.
But now, Kayel couldn’t seem to understand. Why was he to be sent to The Temple now? No unlucky souls had been sent there and returned alive. “You are overestimating my abilities to use a sword! I cannot go there! It’s suicide!” he yelled.
Yet, the tale goes on. The wolf argues with the Elder for some time... I think he spent hours of trying to ask the Elder to get to his senses, and had he managed, there would not have been any tale to tell. But ultimately he gives up, and finally heads out into the forest, where fate would make an interesting twist...
Yawning, Kayel stretched himself. Sleeping on the forest ground was not a pleasant experience, and especially not when you hate your Elder. The first thing the wolf reached for was his sword, alas, he could not find it. Almost jumping to his feet, he peered around; unaware of the girl who was staring down on him from the trees.
“Damn...” he muttered to himself while he put on his clothes. Of course, the few clothes which had been given to him; a silk carpet to sleep on, some green pants, and a green T-shirt. “Damn!” he muttered again.
“You shouldn’t use such cussing words.”
Kayel stopped. That voice was unfamiliar, and it sounded nearly... human-like. By the sound of it, the owner of is a girl. A young girl too, for that matter.
“Hey! Who are you?!” he yelled, his head turning to where the voice had come from, but there was nobody there. “Show yourself!” he yelled again. Nothing.
“You cannot demand anything off me, Wolf.” The voice spoke again. Hah, Kayel thought. She’s a little girl, and already making demands... so like women.
“You are not in the position to make demands now, little girl. Did you take my sword?!” he answered her. Then he heard something behind him, and turned around, staring in the face of a little human girl. Hadn’t he known?
“No. I did not take the sword.” She answered him simply. “But you do not need it to fight, Wolf.”
Kayel stared at her suspiciously. Surely, he was three times bigger than the girl, but there was something mysterious about her. She was wearing a blue robe, and she had long red hair, and was carrying a staff. “Fight without a sword, I can... when against you!” he roared. He was thinking that she was the one who took it; although she said she did not. He didn’t get far, however, as he hit something solid. The pain blinded him for a moment, but when he could see again, he found himself stopped by an invisible wall, around the girl.
“See? This is my gift; you cannot pass through and harm me. However, I want to teach you the arts of magic...” she said, no emotion showing on her face. What in the world is this girl? Kayel thought, still recovering from the impact of the wall. But he did know that whatever this girl used, she was as invincible as the Elder himself. And she was offering to teach him this strange ability as well... Something fishy was definitely going on, but Kayel quickly came to realize how weak he, in reality, was, if the Cat’s should also have individuals with similar powers. He peered around; the forest seemingly becoming even more beautiful, as if he was appreciating the things he had been through, discovered... experienced.
“Fine... I accept your offer... But, may I get to know your name, human? I go under the name of Kayel.” He finally spoke, after hesitating for some more minutes. The girl seemed to smile, but nothing was shown on the outside. “Good. I shall tell you my name, should you manage to find my home; which will prove you worthy of learning these abilities.” The girl spoke, and vanished.
Surely, these magic tricks of her, were simply a test, created to see how well-developed the White Wolf was. This brings us to the introduction of the story I am telling now; the wolf whom is walking in the forest is Kayel, searching for the girl who is to teach him the arts of the Magi. From here on, I am just going to guess what happened, but Kayel found his way to the Magi-Master’s hut, by luck, surely, but he still found his way. However, he had not managed to reach her completely unscathed. I do not know of what he met on his way, but after crawling the rest of the trip, he fell unconscious at the girl’s doorsteps. Leaving his fate into her hands.
