panels towards her.

"No..." she muttered, bareley beliving what she saw.

"Who gave this to you?" Kianu asked.

" The last leader of our pack. Why do you look so afraid?" the dark leader said.

But Kianu only blankly stared ahead,asking more questions. " What color....was your leader?"

Shaukwo replied with " Wh-white...why do you ask...?" and inched closer to her.

His tail brushed her back, and Kianu was instantly drawn out of her thoughts. She stiffened, but didn't move away.

"I--- I... nevermind." she said quickly.

" No, really, what is wrong with..... this symbol?" the wolf encouraged, while pulling closer a bark panel with a strange design scratched into it. It was the one Kianu had been staring at.

She looked up. Her gaze swept the cave, then met Shaukwo's eyes. A feeling of connection flashed between the two.

Suddenly, there was a rustle outside the cave. The pack's leader slunk over to a crevice in the rock wall. In the glow of the cave's fire, Kianu saw Shaukwo grab two branches from the crevise.

" Here! Catch the end on fire!" he instructed, tossing one to her. She leapt up and caught the stick in midair. Her eyes narrowed in pride as she quickly followed his orders. Then, the husky crept out from behind Shaukwo, her face lit by flames.

Shaukwo jerked his head towards a fern patch. She circled it, displaying her teeth the best she could with the branch in her jaws. Then, a faint whimper was heard from the ferns.

"Okay, I'll come out, just don't hurt me! I'm no threat!" a tiny voice quivered. Then, a small pup emerged from the plant.

                          "KONA!!!!!?????"
