Basic Storyline:
One year before the Road Rovers were formed, a man named Professor Shepherd was working on a new machine called the transdogmafier, an invention which would be able to turn ordinary dogs into a heroic new species called "cano-sapiens." Shepherd wanted to use his creation to help the world. However, a man named General Parvo had other ideas: world domination. Parvo kidnapped Shepherd's dog, demanding the machine and the blueprints as ransom. Shepherd agreed to the trade, but Parvo double-crossed him and blew up the laboratory, and seemingly Shepherd along with it. He then spent a year modifying the machine, designing it to better suit his nefarious plans.
Somehow, Shepherd survived the explosion and went underground, building a new transdogmafier. When Parvo unleashed his cano-mutants on the world, Shepherd was ready. Summoning five ordinary dogs, each posessing exceptional skills, he transformed them into super-powered cano-sapiens: the Road Rovers.
Characters
Hunter: The leader of the Road Rovers, Hunter is a retriever mix from the US. His primary power is super-speed, although he also lists such powers as super generosity, super loyalty (frequently demonstrated), and super luck. Although he seems naive on the outside and has a tendency to be excessively literal, he is a confident leader who can put humor into just about any situation. His two catchphrases are "I would not have predicted this," and "Yet another unexpected twist. Bummer." Both are typically used when the team is faced with an obvious plot twist.
Colleen: The second-in-command, Colleen is a Rough Collie from the UK (as evidenced by her Cockney accent). She is the only female in the group, but with her great cunning and martial arts skills which are unrivaled in both forms (ironically paired with considerable medical capability), she pulls her own weight and more with the team. Like Hunter, she often makes various quips during a fight, along with karate-style battle cries pertaining to any topic from political figures to various dances. There are hints of a relationship between her and Hunter, while at the same time she frequently endures confessions of love (although in the opinion of this writer, it’s not love if he won’t accept her disinterest) from Blitz, whose name and even existence she "forgets" whenever possible.
Blitz: A Doberman from Germany, Blitz has an ego the size of Alaska, a skull as thick as the Black Forest, and a brain that makes a pea look large by comparison. His claws and teeth can cut through nearly anything, and his headstrong attitude gets him into far more trouble than his limited courage can get him out of. Blitz often vies with Hunter for leadership, pointing out that Hunter is a mixed-breed and implicitly thinking that Hunter is a sissy in general. He also frequently tries to win Colleen's affections, although his efforts all but invariably result in him getting kicked across the room (on at least one occasion he was even sent partway through the wall). Speaks with a heavy German accent.
Exile: A Siberian husky and resident of Russia, Exile has a talent for fixing and/or unfixing virtually any device. His powers are heat, freeze, and night vision, along with some degree of super strength. He habitually butchers English phrases, often two or three at a time, and has a tendency to misunderstand things most people take for granted (he once panicked over eating a hot dog because he thought it was made from a daschund). He frequently tells Blitz, "Don't be weird boy." Speaks with a Russian accent.
Shag: A Sheepdog from Switzerland, Shag is the strongest member of the team, in addition to possessing fur with a storage capacity comparable to a pocket dimension. These are offset by his cowardice, which is topped only by Blitz's, and by the fact that he is never fully transdogmafied. Aside from standing upright, his canine and cano-sapien forms are virtually identical in appearance. While his deceptive appearance has, on occasion, made him a valuable asset in terms of infiltration, he is inhibited by the fact that he cannot speak English. He is an expert chef as a hobby.
Muzzle: Strapped to a handcart and carefully muzzled (hence his nickname) for all but the most dire occasions, Muzzle is the Road Rovers' member of last resort. With a level of savagery that far surpasses rabid, he is aptly dubbed as an "unstoppable force of nature." So if you see them turning the Rottweiler loose, get out of the way fast.
The Master: He is actually Professor Shepherd, but the Rovers refer to him as The Master. He lives at Road Rovers HQ, where he assigns the team to their various missions. His eyes have a strange tendency to glow, which he attributes to special effects.
General Parvo: The Road Rovers' arch-enemy, General Parvo has a tan complexion, a long yellow mustache, and a mechanical right arm and left leg (both with compartments for weaponry). He is the only other man who posesses a trandogmafier aside from the Master. Parvo's transdogmafier, unlike the Master's, produces not Road Rovers, but Cano-Mutants: a more primitive-looking breed of cano-sapiens which are larger, more muscular, and significantly toothier than the Road Rovers. Thankfully, they lack superpowers and any semblence of an enhanced IQ. For that matter, so does Parvo.
Groomer: General Parvo's assistant, Groomer is every bit as nasty as her boss. She typically wears a red and black jumpsuit, along with a tight-fitting helmet much like the general's. She's dangerous with a blaster, but prefers sharp objects befotting her name. Even a seemingly normal electric clipper can be deadly in her hands, so don‘t go to this lady looking for a haircut.

I suppose there is some similarity, but Hunter's a little too comic relief-ish to be like Balto, Colleen is too aggressive, combat-wise, to be Jenna, and Blitz is nowhere near bad or tough enough to be Steele.
