"Dragonheart? Dragonheart are you awake?"
Dragonheart shook his head. He saw Greentail and Icepaw hovering over him. "Icepaw told me you were in danger. So I came."
"Icepaw..."
Icepaw's crystal blue eyes were wide and conserned.
"I'm sorry."
Icepaw's eyes widened. "What? What are you talking about?"
"I missed your warrior cerimony."
Icepaw's eyes became gentle and caring."No, you didn't. And if you had, it wouldn't matter. You saved my life."
Dragonheart smiled. "I love you Icepaw."
"I love you too." Icepaw and Dragonheart lay beside each other for a long time, not moving.
"Well, that's that then." Greentail laughed. "I knew you'd be brave one day, Dragonheart!"
Dragonheart laughed. "Yeah, with the help of an expert!"
Greentail smiled. He's had a mate before, her name was Phesentpaw. She'd died of GreenCough though.
Greentail sighed and walked off, winking at Dragonheart as he left.
Dragonheart roused fromhis hunting crouch as the mouse scampered into a hole. Snarling and barking in agervation, Dragonheart stomped away. He'd been on the hunting patrol for hours and hadn't caught a thing. He stopped in his tracks as he spotted a rabbit. He dropped into a hunting crouch. He focussed on his target, then heleapt onto it, finishing off the struggling creature with one swift bite.
"Dragonheart, could you help me carry my kill back to camp?" It was Icepaw.
Dragonheart nodded and took up a water vole and a mouse, as well as his own prey. Icepaw's hunting skills seemed to be better than his own, and he envied her because of that.
The two dropped their kill in the fresh kill pile, which had grown since the past few days, since Droundpool's pups been made apprentices. He walked toward the warriors' den to go eat with Greentail when he heard the fimilliar words of Ninestar. "All dogs old enough to catch their own prey gather around the High Branch for a meeting."
Dogs from everywhere in the camp gathered under the huge oak, which had grown a branch so large that a dog could sit in comfort on it.
"We gather here today to make these this young apprentice a warrior."
Dragonheart's heart jumped as he saw Icepaw walk forward. His excitement overwelmed him. He sat with pride rushing through him, and watched as the fimilliar words of a warrior cerimony escaped Ninestar.
"Then from this day forward, you will be known as Icefeather."
Dragonheart leapt up and ran up to Icefeather and nuzzled her, meowing her new name at the top of his loungs. "Icefeather, you're a warrior now!"
Icefeather smiled. "And it's all because of you."
Dragonheart paused. "What do you mean? Your mentor trained you to do it all!"
"No Dragonheart, he taught me nothing of how to hunt. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be the brave warrior I am today!"
Dragonheart smiled and nuzzled her. "You are the bravest warrior there is!"
Icefeather dipped her head. "I am not as great as you." She said and walked away.
Dragonheart sat for a while, just thinking. Of nothing importicular, just thinking. He decided to head out with Greentail for a hunt. He knew that there wasn't really anything else to do. The threat of RockClan hadn't appeared to be a threat to anyone else but Greentail, Ninestar, and himself. But they would come some day, and Dragonheart knew that when they decided to strike, he would be ready.
"Dragonheart, come with me to the Snake Fields."
Dragonheart hesitated. The Snake Fields was one of the most dangerous places in the forest, why go there? "Why are we going there?" Dragonheart barked at Greentail, who'd already started down the path that lead to the Snake Fields.
"Just come on. I can't explan it, you'll have to see it." Greentail told him and continued on his way down the path.
"Look..."
Dragonheart's eyes widened. What he saw was the most horrible thing any dog of the wild would ever see.
