Tiaka had taken care of Saba before. And now he was doing it again. Just recently, Jojo was sitting with Saba and then Saba had a heart attack. Jojo had brought her back to Tiaka's home and Tiaka had taken x~rays of her. He showed them to the wolf clan, who gasped in shock. The x~ray showed Saba's rib cage broken in three different places. It also showed that 1 small section was totally smashed. That was the part that protected her heart. Aleu opened her mouth to tell Lightning something, but then changed her mind. She thought that if she said it, it might actually happen. Lightning was facing the x~ray, he was shaking. Aleu leaned her head on his shoulder, tears in her eyes. Then she saw Saba's eyes flutter, a look of hope flew into Aleu's eyes.

Aleu looked at her sister, who groaned and closed her eyes again. A tear ran down Aleu's cheek. Saba opened her eys long enough to glance at Aleu. She struggled to stand. And before Tiaka could gently push her back down, she was wobbling to the door. Aleu ran over to her, calling, "Saba! Saba wait! Saba you can't leave!" Saba looked back at Aleu, a pain in her chest. "Aleu. I have to. I... I have to set things straight. It has been nice knowing you sis." She wobbled out the door and into the distance.

Aleu couldn't believe it. She stood there, shocked for a few minutes and then finally ran off after Saba. She ran for awhile, sniffing for Saba's scent. She dodged trees and soon heard a howl. It was a howl for help. Aleu recognized the howl. "Saba!" Aleu cried. She ran in the direction of the howl. She looked around. Running, panting, losing her breath. It seemed weird since Aleu couldn't find her. That changed when Aleu turned a corner behind a tree.

What she saw, frightened her. 3 huge wolves were tearing at something lying on the ground. Blood went flying around and skin was being torn. Aleu heard the sick sound of a snapping bone and saw one of the wolves fall to the ground, whimpering. The other 2 looked at the animal they were attacking. Then they looked at their partner, who was lying on the ground, his leg bent. It was bleeding and the flesh sagged. The wolves glared at the animal and attacked it one last time. Aleu heard the tearing of skin. She turned away. Soon she heard the padding of feet walking away in the snow.

Aleu turned to see what had happend. She screamed in fright. The animal the wolves were attacking, was Saba. Aleu ran up to her sister. Saba was lying in a puddle of her own blood. Her flesh on her neck was torn away and her chest was ripped open, spilling the slightest bit of her insides. Aleu couldn't bear to look. She didn't know if she should leave Saba, alone to die. Or if she should take her back to Tiaka. Or if she should sit with her and howl till Tiaka or one of her clan memebers came. Aleu couldn't decide. She howled. And howled. And howled. It started to snow and Aleu lay down. "I am not going to leave your side until this is all over." Aleu whispered. Saba didn't reply.

The next morning, Aleu opened her eyes. She saw that Lightning and Tiaka were right there. Aleu howled with hope and joy. She hoped that Tiaka could help her sister. She looked at Tiaka. Tiaka looked at Aleu. He shook his head. Aleu understood. She tried not to cry. But she didn't try hard enough. Tears streamed down her face. She lay back down beside her sister who was not blinking. Staring off into space. Saba didn't breathe. Saba didn't even move a muscle. Aleu cried and cried when Tiaka took her and Lightning home. Aleu growled at him and firmly lay down beside her sister. She had told Saba that she was going to stay by her side. And that was exactly what she was going to do.
