Revenge Lingers

            It had been only three weeks since Balto’s heroic success in saving the town of Nome from the sickness that had fallen upon them. Balto had won the hearts of the villagers of Nome and the heart of Jenna, a pure bred husky. He and Jenna had been in love with one another since he had saved the town, not to mention Jenna’s human girl, Rosie.

“Balto.” A gentle voice yawned. “I’m having some trouble sleeping tonight…”

The hybrid looked concerned, “What’s the bother?” Balto asked rising to his paws.

“Oh nothing, just one of those nights when you just can’t sleep.” Replied Jenna sounding irritated of herself. “I think I’ll go outside for a walk. Maybe that will help.”

“Alright, but, don’t go far.” Balto called after her as she left through the dog-door.

What a cold night, thought Jenna. The husky walked on through the deserted town, Nome was quite the quiet place during the night. Only the howl of a lonely cold wind was heard. She walked until the very edge of town, she looked out into the darkness that surrounded Nome. Suddenly, trash cans rattled behind her. Jenna whipped around, her hear began to race. No one could be seen but, she knew someone was there. Their scent gave their presence away.

“Who are?” Jenna said in a scared but, firm tone.

“Aww, you don’t remember me.” A large framed figure stepped out of the darkness and swiped his tongue over his glistening fangs. “Heh, you should.”

Jenna’s eyes widened in fear, “No…Get out of here Steele! Help!” She cried hopelessly.” She ran toward the dark wilderness that surrounded Nome.  

Without a word Steele lunged toward Jenna and sank his fangs into her scruff. The husky yelped helplessly. He threw her onto some near by trash bins. Jenna lifted herself off the ground shakily, blood ran down her forehead. Tears ran down her face but, a snarl bared her fangs furiously.

“You don’t intimidate me one bit honey.” Steele chuckled darkly as he walked slowly toward her. “You will bare my children Jenna.”

Jenna’s eyes grew even wider and she sank to the ground in terror…
