The Later Life Of Balto

Volume 2

Ever since Balto was accused of murder, most of the dogs still didn't believe that Balto was telling the truth about the murders. Balto was slowly regaining trust with the dogs. Since Balto killed Steele, everyone was partly scared of Balto. Steele's body was put out in the sea for his funeral. Balto was still tyring to pick out little bits of flesh from his teeth from were he bit into Steele's head.

Kodi had moved to White Mountain to find a home for himself. He promised that he would visit Balto now and then. Aleu was in Nennana with her pack. Aleu's pack visited Nome once every 2 months because of their constant travel. Stella had convinced Boris to fly south with her, and Boris had to overcome his fear of hights to be with Stella.

Balto was sitting on the beach when Dusty walked up to him. "Balto, were is Kodi?" "Kodi went to live in White Mountain. Why do you ask?" said Balto. "Well, i, uh..." Balto knew why she couldn't talk. "You like him dont you Dusty." said Balto. "What? No! Why would you ask a crazy thing like that," asked Dusty. "Is it that obvious?" Balto nodded, and then laughed a little. "Dusty, you believe me that i didn't kill Dipsy and Kirby. Right?" Dusty backed up a little. "Well, i didnt at first, but when i saw Steele come and attack you, and he said that you ruined his plan for revenge, i did believe you. But some of the dogs around here still don't. When you see the rest of my team, tell them to meet me in White Mountain. I want to go visit Kodi." Balto nodded, and Dusty left.

Balana, one of Balto's children from Jenna's second litter, walked up the beach, and up onto Balto's boat. Balto wondered what she was doing, so he followed her. "Balana, what are you doing here? I though you were out trying to make the mail dog sled team." Balana looked away with a frown. "Oh. you didn't make the team. Well cheer up. I once won a race, and they didn't put me on a team either. If you work hard enough, you will get whatever you want." Balana looked up at Balto. "I was the fastest dog there! I dont know why they didn't put me on the team." Balto chuckled a little bit. "Why are you laughing?" asked Balana. "I will keep that to myself. Just work harder, and you will make it." Balana stood up, went down to the beach, and sat down. Two others of Balto's children, Cobra and Melania came running toward Balana, and takled her playfully. Balto whatched them play. Jenna followed behind them, and she walked to Balto. "Balto, where were you last night? You said you were coming over to visit Rosie and I." Balto chuckled. "Oh it's nothing. I just forgot. That'a all." Balto and Jenna were quiet for a while as they whatched Their children play. "Jenna, what do you think they will accomplish in their live's? I hope Balana gets on the mail team. She tried out for it, but she didn't pass. I want Cobra to be, well, i just want all of our children to have a good life, and live right. I dont know what i would do if one of them did something bad like steal, or murder someone." Jenna looked at their children run and play on the beach. "You know Balto, Balana has a strong spirit. I can somehow sence it when i get near her. I dont think she would do a nything bad."

That night, Cobra, Melania, and Balana walked into the forest. "Now, how are we going to build this? I mean how could dogs build an underground building? Only humans can do that." Balana began to dig, along with Melania and Cobra. They were building an underground home for themselves and friends. They planed to start a team or something close to that idea. It took them about 3 hours to dig the entrance tunnel, 6 hours to build the rooms and hallways, and 2 hours to get the neccasary supplies.

It was sunrise, and the 3 closed the entrance tunnel up with a long wood board they snatched from the woodsman shop, then covered it with dirt to conseal the wood. They then ran back to Balto's boat. Balto was drinking from his water bowl when they came. "Hi dad." they all said. Balto looked at them with a curious eye, yawned, and said, "Why are you all here? It's very early." They then ran off toward town to get some stuff for their club, and also for some new members. Balto watched them run off, and he was very susspisious.
