Author’s Note: This fan fiction is rated PG-13 for fighting scenes, some bloodshed, and some scenes that the reader may or may not find disturbing. I owe a lot of inspiration from the “Balto: A New Threat” series by Balto123. I apologize if I waste your time with this, but hope you enjoy it if you do read it. I realize that in a past fiction, I had one of Jenna’s pups pass away, and that he mysteriously came back, and I changed some names. I was planning on rewriting my first three fictions, so please accept this truth instead, until I finish them, or I don’t, meh.

Bloodline Deceiver:

Prologue:

December 28, 1927

This December night was particularly cold. Snow gently fell in a rhythmic pattern in Nome, Alaska. Christmas had been celebrated only a few days earlier and the townspeople and dogs were inside someplace where they could stay warm. That is, except for two dogs. Both were huskies and they shared the same owner. One was a female and the other male. They were heading back to their home together from the boiler room. They had been together for some time and had a litter of pups to prove it.

The female nuzzled the male. “Oh I love you so much Bruno.”

The male smiled back warmly. “Same here Lucy.”

Together they walked down an alley. This alley had always had been a shortcut for them. They could see better at this time of year because even the slightest bit of light would reflect off the snow, making it so everything appeared brighter.

Lucy darted ahead of Bruno and turned around. “I can’t wait to get back to them. They’re almost ready for their own humans, and I don’t want to miss any more time with them.”

“I know,” replied Bruno with a grin, “but at least they’ll be out of our hair!”

Lucy half-smiled, “Yeah, but we can still miss them right?”

“Of course we can, you’ll just be the bigger of the worrywarts.”

The two began to giggle together. But heavy breathing could be heard right by them. The two stopped giggling and sighed. A certain ominous feeling could be felt in the air around them. Time would be short for the couple. Every second brought them closer to the inevitable. She was about to head back but then her ears perked, and she looked at her mate to see his ears perked too.

“Did you?” she asked.

He nodded slowly.

“Then we aren’t?” she continued.

He shook his head. She whipped around to face the empty alley.

“Who are you? Show yourself!” she called out.

She took a couple steps forward, the snow crunching under her paws. Then something started to make a gagging behind her. She turned to face the noise to see a second dog. One dog was on top of the other. She could make out the one on the bottom as her mate.

“Bruno!” she yelled.

Lucy couldn’t make out the stranger as clearly though. He was in the right position where she could only see his silhouette, but that didn’t stop her from seeing that toothy grin that shone brightly.

“Now you’ll die!” the stranger shouted to Bruno.

He rose his paw up in the air and slashed a claw across Bruno’s throat, throwing streams of red in many directions. Lucy was panicking by now, but started to get very angry.

She charged at this murderer. “Get away from him!”

The dog couldn’t dodge in time and was knocked off of him. Lucy quickly ran over to Bruno. She checked to see if he was breathing, nothing. She checked to see if he still had a pulse. Her heart sank. There was not a single beat. She turned her head and looked at the stranger with rage in her eyes.

“You’ll pay for this! I’ll kill you!” she yelled.

The stranger nearly stood up and dusted himself off.

He gave her the same toothy grin. “Oh really? I wouldn’t make idle threats that you can’t keep.”

She started to walk towards him. Then, his face suddenly became visible. She stopped dead in her tracks and her blood turned ice cold.

“No, it can’t be you.” she whispered.

He gave an evil laugh that would make your heart stop. “It’s me. In the flesh. By the way, I think I would like to adopt your pups, I always wanted to be a father.”

“Fat chance!” she barked, “I’d sooner die then let you lay a paw on them.”

“That can be arranged…” he chortled.

This bit rattled her but she didn’t back down. “I won‘t let you! It’ll be a cold day in Hell when I let you take my kids!” she fought back.

He lifted his paw to his chest in a mocking manner. “You’d think of killing your own brother?… I’m appalled, but then that means that you must still remember that deceit runs in our family… And I plan to pass that along...”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Oh you don’t? Then how about I remind you?”

“No thank you.”

He sniggered at her. “Very well… You could have just let me ramble on and given yourself precious moments to live. Suit yourself Sister Dear…”

At these words, Lucy hunched down and bared her teeth. The time for words was over, it was time to end this once and for all. Her brother did the same, and soon it was a flurry of fur and gnashing teeth. She lunged towards him like she had before, but this time he easily avoided her. He then took his chance and clamped his jaws around the scruff of her neck and flung her to the ground. He launched at her and grabbed her around the throat, twisting his head sharply and smiling as her scream faded away and she fell limp…

A figure walked up the steps of a nearby house and entered through the pet flap. He saw the three little pups lying on a pillow in a pet basket, sleeping heavily. He nudged each one of them gently. They started to stir and open their eyes.

“Momma? Is that you?” one male asked groggily.

“No,” said the new comer, “I’m sorry that I have to be the one to tell you, but your mother has just been killed in a most unfortunate event. But, when I saw her, she asked me with her dying breath, that she wanted me to… take care of you.”

Tears started to well up in each of the small pups eyes. They all started to whimper and burry their faces into the pillow. The larger male looked down at one sobbing puppy, and he put a sincere paw on his head.

He spoke quietly when the pup looked up at him, “Shh, little one. Everything will be fine, I’ll protect you. You can just call me Uncle… Greg…”

Chapter One:

The waves of a salty ocean sloshed lazily underneath the ice that hugged an old rundown fishing vessel. A brown and tan hybrid rolled around tiredly under a thin sheet blanket as a snow goose waddled around the deck. Finally, after what seemed like hours to the snow goose, the hybrid stretched and yawned, showing signs of awakening.

“Is about time you are getting up!” the goose complained noisily.

“Take it easy Boris, if you hadn’t been honking at me all last night then I could have actually gotten some sleep,” Balto, the half-breed, replied.

Boris was about to make a sarcastic comment but was cut off by a bark. Balto, who had been lying down, yawned and rose to his feet to greet the visitor. The old wooden plank that ran up to the deck of Balto’s home creaked as weight was put onto it. Balto’s blank expression changed to a smile as he saw that it was his son Kodi who was visiting.

“Hey Dad, how’s it goin’?” Kodi asked casually.

Balto looked over his son. His fur was primarily a deep red with the rest of him being a white that stretched from his muzzle to his tail.

“Well, besides being stuck here with Mr. Optimist,” he smirked, pointing at Boris, “not much. You?”

Kodi chuckled a bit, “We only have a ton of mail to deliver because of the holidays and we’re down a dog, so I was the unlucky one who got short straw and had to come and ask you if you could sub.”

Balto thought for a moment, “You need an old geezer like me? I haven’t pulled on the mail team since last fall, I think I’d be a little out of practice.”

“Nonsense, if you could lead the sled team in that terrible blizzard with no experience at all, then you could do this even if you are ‘out of practice’.”

“Nice way of putting it,” laughed Balto, “just let me talk with your mother first.”

“Okay Dad, we don’t have much time to wait so make it snappy.”

“Getting ordered by my son, how wrong is that picture?”

They both chuckled as Balto headed off to Jenna’s home.

Jenna was snuggled deep in her basket in front of the hearth with a roaring fire in it. She was suddenly woken from her state of sleep by loud scratches at the door. Jenna smiled, she didn’t need three guesses to know who it was. She happily jumped up and opened the pet flap. She was greeted by a “Mornin’ Jen” as her mate walked into the cozy abode.

“Wow Balto, what brings you here so early?” the red and white husky asked.

He nuzzled her affectionately. “Two things actually. First is that I couldn’t wait to see your pretty face,” he
