“What are you doing?!” Steele snarled as he was being carried away in a cage. “I did nothing!” Lani ran up to her husband instantly as he was put down in the snow once he calmed down.
“Steele,” She whispered as she stared at him with her blue eyes filling up with tears. “How could you? I- I can’t stand this. If you slip up like this one more time I’m going to have to leave you. My puppies can’t be taught to be mean, especially if they are going to find good homes. If you want to see them when they are born, don’t slip up in the next month.”
“Wait,” Steele said. “Just another month until I’m a father?”
“I know it flies by!” Balto joked. “You want me to get you out of that cage?”
“Very much, yes.” Steele replied.
“Balto, don’t forget, you promised Kari you’d take her out to the beach.” Jenna reminded Balto as he unlocked Steele’s cage. Kari is Balto and Jenna’s daughter. She has red fur and resembles Jenna except she’s a little bit furrier.
“I remember. Then we all have a picnic to go to. You didn’t think I would actually forget, did you?” Balto asked. Steele walked up to him and froze up. “Steele?” Balto asked worriedly.
“Oh no.” Steele gulped. “Not now, not here!”
“Steele,” said a lady voice coming from a nearby alley. “What’re you doing here? It’s been two years. Oh, who’s this wolf? Get out of here, go back to your woods and stay there!” She growled at Lani.
“Uh, guys, this is, um, Shaniqua, my old girlfriend.” Steele nervously said. Shaniqua was a purebred husky with light brown fur and a red bow around her tail. “Listen, Shaniqua. I ran away-“
“I know!” She interrupted.
“Well, I ran away and kind of, found a mate. A WOLF mate.” He said in a shy-like voice.
“Okay,” She said. “Just dump her.”
“You see, she’s my wife. And will have my pups.”
“So? Just leave her.”
“But, I’m not that type.”
“Whatever. My girl’s calling me. Goodbye, handsome.”
“Okay, what was that about?” Lani asked. “And what do you mean by ‘girlfriend’?”
“Okay, so a few years ago, I had a girlfriend. It was WAY before I knew you.”
“Whatever. I think she was just jealous that she can’t have you. Besides, would you rather have me, or that dog?”
“Well,” Steele thought.
“What? You’d rather have that dog than me!?” Lani yelled at the top of her lungs.
“Lani! Wait!” Steele shouted.
“I don’t care. The last slip-up has been done. Go, see Shaniqua. I don’t care.”
“Wha- Balto, what just happened?” Steele sobbed trying to choke back tears.
“It’ll be okay. She’ll take you back before the pups are born.” Balto said trying to cheer up his buddy.
“I hope you’re right. I just hope you’re right”
