Ice Back was getting restless. Any moment now, he was going to be a father! "I can't stand it anymore," he thought. "I have to see my pups." He carefully crept into the cave. "Hello honey, you don't need to be so tense, come and meet your children," his mate Mahogany said. He edged closer and saw three little round balls of fur sound asleep. Seeing that her mate was speechless, she started introducing their pups. "Well, this is your son, Ronan," she said, pointing to a black pup with white spots. "This is your daughter, Weststar," she added, nudging a silver pup with a splash of brown on her back. "And this is your son, Wildfire," she said, nuzzling a black pup with silver flames licking his chest. The brown alpha nodded his head. "Wildfire would make a fine alpha someday, I can feel it," he said.

As the months went by, Wildfire grew into a handsome yearling with piercing, ocean blue eyes. "Dad! Dad! You said you would show us the pack's territory today!" Said Wildfire. "Hmm, did I?" Said the alpha as he cocked his head to look at his son. "You did dad, you did!" Said Wildfire, Weststar and Ronan in unison. "Ha,ha! Well alright, i'll take you three on a little adventure, but first, you must ask your mother for permission to come along with me!" And just like that, the three pups bounded of towards the cave where their mother was sleeping. "Mum! Mum!" "Yes Wildfire?" "Can we please go with dad to see our territory?" "Yes mum, please say yes!" Said Ronan and Weststar. "Alright, but please do be careful". "Oh alright already, let's go," said Wildfire. "Bye mum!" He said, giving her a quick nuzzle. And the three were running back to Ice Back. "Dad! Mum said we could go!" "Okay, here we go!"

While they were exploring their pack's territory, Ice Back smelt an unfamiliar scent. And it smelled like wolves! "Papa, what's that smell?" Said Wildfire, who smelt it too. "I don't know, but it smells like wolves, wolves from another pack." "Do we fight them?" A mischievious Ronan whispered. "No, I'll stay put right where I am!" Said Weststar anxiously. "Shhh, you three, look, papa's only gonna be gone for a short while. Can you manage by yourselves?" Ice Back looked anxiously at his three beloved pups. "Sure we can, papa," A confident Wildfire said quietly. "Oh, alright then, but be careful!" "Will do dad!" Ronan howled out. Grrrr... "H-hey, whats that sound?" "I don't know, but it seems to be coming from those bushes," Said Wildfire. Grrrr... GRRRR! Suddenly, six dark figures jumped out from the bushes.

"Hi losers, this your territory?" The largest wolf smirked. "No, but it's my father's so you just shut that big mouth of yours!" A brave Wildfire said. Wildfire was very big for his age so the wolf drew back just a tiny bit. "Hmm, so i've met with a son of an alpha.so what? You know, I am also the son of an alpha-the only son," The wolf said. Then, setting his eyes on Weststar he said: "Well, well, well. What's a pretty wolf like you doing here? I think I might have just found the perfect mate! The name's Shadow, what's yours?" "Grrrr, get away from my sister now and leave my pack's territory-FOREVER!" An angry Wildfire yelled and suddenly pounced on Shadow. He kept on ripping into Shadow's neck. For a second, Ronan and Weststar thought that Shadow might be ripped to shreds. But Wildfire didn't want to kill Shadow, he didn't burst the jugular vein, he just let go. Shadow was rasping and gasping. And all the other wolves had scattered. Then two of the wolves carefully came to Shadow, lifted him up and ran for their lives.

"Wildfire, Ronan, Weststar! Where are you?" It was Ice Back. "Dad, we are near the big tree!" Shouted Wildfire. Eventually, Ice Back came to the big tree and saw his pups. "Did anything happen to you while I was away?" He said, checking them. "Well those wolves came to us and their leader wanted me to become his alpha female and of course I didn't want to and then Wildfire came and fought them!" Weststar blurted out. "Is that true Ronan?" He asked. "Yes, it's all true!" Ronan said. Turning to Wildfire he said, "You will make a fine alpha someday," "Now come on, let's go home." He said with a smile to the pups.

When they reached their cave, Mahogany ran to them and greeted them each with a nuzzle and said: "Thank Aniu you are back! I was so worried about you four!" It's alright mum, we're back, safe and sound," Said Weststar. "Yes, and Wildfire fought a wolf called uh, Shadow today and won-without a scratch!" A proud Ice Back said. "Okay, okay. It's time to go to sleep now. We all have had a very exhausting day." A tired Mahogany walked to her corner of the cave a went to sleep.

The next morning, Wildfire was awakened by a gunshot and a cry: "Humans!" His parents and siblings were nowhere to be found. "Mum! Dad! Ronan! Weststar! Where are you guys?" He cried. Suddenly, he heard rustling somewhere in the bushes. "Oh,no! Not more wolves!" He thought. But his answer was not accurate. Yes, they were wolves, but they were wolves of his own pack.

Dallas, beta of the pack stepped up. ">Sigh<,Wildfire, your father is dead." As Dallas said this, Wildfire's jaw dropped. "How?" "The hunters shot him," "Dallas seemed to shiver when he said hunters," thought Wildfire. "What about the rest of my family?" "They are alive." Wildfire felt relieved when his mother and siblings stepped out from the croud of wolves. Mahogany was sobbing, while Ronan and Weststar were close to tears. Dallas was emotionless, and so were all the other wolves.

A year passed and Wildfire still hadn't become alpha. One day, Dallas walked up to him. "Wildfire, you are ready to take on the role of alpha." Wildfire couldn't say anything. He nodded his head. As he walked out of the cave, all the pack members shouted: "Long live the alpha!" He just howled back. Then, he saw a vision of Ice Back smiling at him, saying: "You have done well, my son."

As Wildfire was hunting with the pack one day, he looked up at the mountain for no particular reason and saw a most beautiful female wolf up there. Then he immediately ordered the pack to go up to the mountains. When they had almost reached the top, he told the pack to wait there. When he got to the top the wolf was still standing at the same spot. She turned her head to face Wildfire and stared at him. He gulped and said: "Hello there, my name's Wildfire, what's yours?"  She blinked in surprise and finally said: "Hi. My name's Rora." He thought for a moment and then said: "Are you lost?" "Yes, I also don't have a pack," she said.

Wildfire was stunned. He had never encountered a wolf without a pack. "I am an alpha. You can join my pack if you want to." She looked him in the eye for a moment and then said: "I would love to!" So Wildfire explained all the pack's rules, regulations, and schedules to her as they journeyed back to where the pack hunting party was stationed. Once they reached the pack, Wildfire said: "This is Rora. She has become a member of this pack." After Wildfire introduced Rora to the pack's hunting party, they all went back to the pack.

Slowly, Mahogany was developing feelings for a wolf-dog called Ranger. Ranger had been rescued by Wildfire when his sled team was caught in a snowstorm. He was the only survivor. When he was brought back, he was nursed back to health by Mahogany and was captivated at once by her beauty. One day, Ranger walked up to Mahogany. "Uh, hi!" Said Mahogany, who was turning red. "Oh, hi. You're looking good today. I like you..." He said, almost in a whisper then turned red at once. "You like me?" Mahogany was stunned. "Yeah!" Said Ranger, who had finally found his voice. Then Mahogany licked Ranger on the neck and his fur stood on end with delight and surprise. He then licked her on the mouth. "Will you be my mate?" He stammered. "Oh, yes, yes I will!" Mahogany was bursting with happiness.

Soon, Mahogany's belly started to swell. When Wildfire asked who the father of the pups were, she told him it was Ranger. Wildfire was mad with anger. "How can you have a wolf-dog for a mate! Let alone a wolf-dog that has worked for humans! Don't you still respect father?!" She then turned her back on him, saying she will never leave Ranger. When the pups were born, Ranger was twitching with excitement. "Our two pups, oh Mahogany,
