Part Four

Cailean awoke, annoyed at herself for even falling asleep. She shook her head from side to side and leaned back against the tree. Doing so the she scraped the wound in the back of her head, making it bleed once again. She looked over and across to Ahura figuring he was asleep but he stared wided-eyed at the ground a few feet in front of him. Cailean knew he was devastated at the fact that his kingdom was gone. Mostly in shock he must of felt her concerned gaze on him and he looked up. His eyes glistened with tears that would never come. She wanted so badly for him to speak, even mumble or mutter something would satify her but he kept quiet. Deciding not to talk about it unless he did she closed her eyes and found herself in her own world of sleepness.

She awoke hours later and looked towards Ahura but only saw the remaining thongs that were once tied to his great hands. She gasped and looked around wildly.

“He left me?!” she whispered in disbelief. Wanting to almost cry now that she was abandoned she sat still and thought deeply. Something touched her hand, she moved it thinking it was an insect and got a sharp pain in return.

“Ow” she yelped.

“Well, stop moving” a sweet reply, she turned and saw the great Werewolf working to free her hands.

“I thought you’d left me” she exclaimed looking at him.

“Leave you?” he stared at her in amazement.

“I spent over a month calling you and waiting not even knowing if you would actually come” he took a deep breath and she realized it was the longest sentence he had ever said to her at one time. She felt the thongs drop to the ground and she rubbed her sore wrist.

She stood but he pulled her down quickly, putting a finger over his lips and motioning for her to follow.

They stopped a few meters from the camp, hidden by the dense forest. Confederate soldiers strolled around the camp, ducking in tents and tending to fires and horses.

Ahura motioned for her to follow once more and when they got out of hearing range they bolted. So fast was the command, Cailean almost tripped over her own feet but regained her balance and kept up with him. They ran for a good while until their lungs wanted to bleed and legs refused to move on.

“Well” he paused letting a few hard breaths heave out of him. “I don’t think they know where we’ve gone” She nodded and placed her hand at her empty sheath.

“I wish I had my knife” she frowned.

“I was waiting for you to ask that” he dug at his side and handed it to her.

“How’d you get it back?” she shrieked, running her fingers over it. He smiled and looked at her. “Don’t ask, just be grateful you got it back” she smiled satisfied with that answer.
