Chapter 1

The wind whipped at Kessie's fur as she stepped through the snow. She walked over to a cliff looking down at the frozen pond in woe. She walked closer to the edge slowly. She held her head high yet still kept her gaze on the pond. Kessie took five steps forward. She had an inch until she would fall of the edge of the cliff. The gray and black wolf sensed someone elses presence

The intruder stepped behind Kessie breathing down her kneck. Kessie turned around gasping at the male white and brown wolf. He lifted one eyebrow.

"Are you having second thoughts?" The wolf asked.

Kessie looked at him in confusion. "Excuse me?"

"I mean on life." He said under his breath.

Kessie rolled her eyes at the male turning to walk down the cliff. The wolf stepped in front of her once more.

"I'm Jester." He said smiling.

"Kessie."

Chapter 2

Kessie felt strangly attracted to this male wolf. She tried to ignore him as much as possible but it didn't seem to work.

"Do you want to come to my den?" Jester asked. Kessie giggled at him.

"Maybe later. After we talk some more." She said.

Jester was confused. "Who said we were talking? I never said we were talking." He said.

Kessie stepped infront of the male looking into his hazel eyes. Jester looked into Kessie's young golden eyes.

"You keep stalking me." She whispered. Kessie tried to walk away from Jester but he blocked her. He growled at her.

"Stalking isn't talking Kessie."

"Yeah? Well, when you stalk me I try to start a conversation but then you shut up." Kessie spat back.

"Come to my den." Jester tried to change her mind. "We can talk there..."

Kessie smiled at him once more. "Fine. But, I'll meet you at the cliff later." She said.

Kessie stood in her den pacing back and fourth. Did she have a crush on Jester? Did he have a crush on her? Did they love each other? There was only one way to find out...

Chapter 3

When the weather let up some more Kessie walked off to the cliff to meet Jester.

"Hello..." She whispered.

Neither of them was thinking going to Jester's den anymore.

"Hi." The male whispered in return. The two wolves closed their eyes slowly.

Kessie knew what was coming next. Jester moved closer to her kneck and nuzzled her.

At first she thought about pulling away but she couldn't help herself.

Kessie nuzzled Jester in return. She now knew she loved him.

He stopped and looked into her eyes with that amazing connection they had. Kessie began getting tears into her eyes.

"I love you......" She whispered. Jester turned his head closing his eyes. Kessie was afraid he would reject her. All she could do was wait for the answer she was dying to hear.

"I love you too." Jester said clearing up his throat because of the weather.

Moments later Kessie shook her head coming back to the real world. She realized what she was doing. She was running away with her feelings telling a wolf she loved him hours after they first met. Kessie began backing away.

Jester looked at her in hurt.

She shook her head. "No!" So, with that she ran off back to her den.

Chapter 4

Was this true? Kessie asked herself. Did she really love Jester? She liked him but loved him? No, no. I don't beleive in love at first sight. No, no, no, no, no, no. Maybe I'll love him after a long relationship. Maybe just maybe. Or maybe not...

Two days later Kessie met with Jester once more. She wouldn't bring up the incident until later.

"Hey." She whispered looking down at her front paws. Without even attempting to get the right words out of his thoughts Jester stepped forward nuzzling Kessie. This time.... Kessie pulled away fast.

"No!" She yelled running away.

Jester pounced onto the young female growling with tears and his eyes.

"Get off me." Kessie complained. But, Jester didn't listen.

"Kessie you said you love me! Don't tell me now that all that crap you told me yesterday was a lie!" He yelled.

Kessie ignored him. "Let go of me!"

Her pleads for help just made him hold her stronger.

"Tell me Kessie! You look me in the eyes and tell me you don't love me!" Jester pleaded.

Kessie didn't respond.

"Tell me." He said almost in a whisper.

Kessie growled and broke free slowly off Jester.

She than smiled pouncing forward nuzzling Jester. She pushed him back into a rock. He was surprised. He got what he needed. He knew that Kessie didn't love him. But, that he was in love with Kessie. He nuzzled her in return. She looked him deep into the eyes and than licked Jester's cheek forcing him to blush.

"I'm in love with you." Jester told her. She nodded.

"Be my mate?" She asked him. Jester nodded to Kessie and licked her cheek.

"Yes. You may move into my den tomorrow evening." Jester whispered.

Kessie felt whole now. She was in love.

Chapter 5

That night Jester suddenly collapsed after Kessie left to go back home.

He didn't know what happened.

He felt light as a feather. He blinked three more times.

But then, Jester was gone.... for good....

Kessie walked into his den the next morning surprised. She sensed something was wrong.

"Jester?" She whispered. He didn't answer. She began shaking her head.

"Jester!?" She cried out yet still didn't get any answer.

Kessie lay her ears on the side of his stomach many times praying for a heartbeat. Sadly she never got one. She still beleived that Jester was still alive.

Hours later Kessie admit it. Jester was dead. She cried her eyes out staining her mate's coat. She had only known him for three days and he was dead.... She would never see him again.

Chapter 6

There was an old broken down volts wagon around all of the trees in the forests. Kessie lay down on top of it heart broken. She heard a rustling in the bushes. Her ears perked up almost happily. A rabbit jumped out of the bushes and than a fox jumped out along with the rabbit trying to eat it. Kessie sat her head on top of her giant paws.

Kessie tried to sleep but, she couldn't. Also she knew if she did Jester would haunt her in her dreams. So, late at night she walked out to the cliff were she and the love of her life first met. She had a strange feeling in her gut like the one she had right before they met.

Chapter 7

Kessie closed her eyes taking baby steps on the cliff. Her heart sank until it felt as if it vanished. She took one small step forward and there was no earth under her paws. Kessie fell to the ice and broke through it sinking down into the pond.
