A Brother’s Story

It was a cold winter night in Alaska, and the pack of wild wolves were sleeping, but one. One wolf was wide awake. It couldn’t sleep in the cold, and small cave with the other wolves. So then, it went outside, and sat down by the cave. The wolf listened to the wind whisper in it’s ears. It thought about it’s family as it glared into the dark blue sky.

The wolf’s name is Randy Isley (yes he has a last name). He’s a tall, and skinny wolf, with a long snout and neck. He is black, with gray markings on his eyes, mouth, paws, chest, and a streak on his back starting from the back of his head, to the end of the tail. It made a gray dip on the tip of his tail. Randy has brown eyes, and a creamy color that replaced the white part of his eyes.

Randy belonged to a pack where different Gray wolves got together. Nobody in the pack are related. These were wolves that were brought to this pack as pups, because there were too many wolves, or they couldn’t afford to have very many members in the original packs. Though, there is an issue; there is only an alpha male. He is a tall and powerful pure black wolf. The alpha doesn’t want no one to mate in the pack but him, even though there is no alpha female. And if one does mate with another, the father of the pups should leave the pack; incase more matting happens again.

Randy was still sitting there by the cave thinking about his family. Yes, Randy can be with his family, but he would rather spend the nights with them. His eyes were half shut, and was really tired. Then he walked tiredly back to the cave, and tried to sleep.

The sun finally awoke, and it was morning. The alpha started to wake everyone in the pack up. ‘’Get up everyone! Its time for a hunt!’’ he said to the members. And then the wolves got up stretching and yawning.

‘’ Today, you will have a partner, and you two would have to try to search for a spot where there might be deer, or caribou roaming. And I will pick your partners. Howl when you find something.’’ the alpha explained, and started to walk out the cave. The other pack members followed.

The alpha started with the partners. ‘’Ok, I will pick the partners: Andrew and Aaron, Brian and Sueanne, Jim and Penny, Randy and Diamond, Jamie and Bailey, Shanna and Sharon. Now you wolves go off, and search, but don’t wonder too far.’’

The wolves started to gather with their partners, besides Randy. He didn’t really know who Diamond was; the members sometimes ignore her. Randy waited for people to pass, and find their partners. Then, they were done, and one wolf was standing alone.

Diamond is her name, but spelled D.I.M.O.N.D. Nobody really knew why. She’s kind of short, and she is very young, but doesn’t look it. Dimond’s overweight (fat), has a droopy mouth, and just really large……..but short…….Dimond is a little new to the pack, which is another reason why wolves don’t really know her. She’s a bluish-gray color, with a black diamond shape on each side of her body. A blue-gray diamond shape on each side of her face, and on the back of both ears (she has black ears). She has markings kind of like a husky; the blue-gray color is on the top, and a very light tan (almost looks like white) on the bottom of her body. She also has a dark blue-gray color on her eyes. But, something weird; she has that same exact streak on her back like Randy’s, but it’s black. And Dimond is a brown eyed girl.

Randy was standing there glaring at Dimond. Then he walked towards her. ’’Hi, I’m Randy…you’re Dimond right?’’ Dimond was sitting and had her head down. ’’I know your name….and yes, I’m Dimond.’’ she said in a soft voice while looking at the ground. Then she got up, and started to walk slowly with her head down. Randy started to follow her.

‘’Hey, Dimond, are you ok? You seem kinda down.’’ Randy asked, and looked into Dimond’s eyes as she raised her head. Then she made a dirty look. ’’Why should you care?’’ Dimond snapped, and wasn’t walking anymore. ’’Whoa, hey girl, you don’t have to throw an attitude! I was just makin’ sure if you were ok! Obviously not.’’ Randy snapped back. Then Dimond sighed, and started to explain, ’’I’m sorry…it’s just that…..other wolves in our pack don’t like me….and….I just guessed you were one of them.’’ Randy had a blank look on his face. Then he looked down, and stared at Dimond again, and said, ’’I don’t really know you. Why wouldn’t I like you? And why don’t they like you? Did you start somethin’?’’

‘’No…they don’t like me cause of the way I look…and I’ve never done anything to them.’’

‘’Really? Well, they’re nice to me.’’ Randy and Dimond started to walk again, and Randy went on, ’’So you don’t have any friends huh?’’

‘’No. The only wolves I talk to are my sisters and my daddy.’’

‘’ Aww, really? I’ll be yo friend.’’

‘’ Oh! Thank you so much! I would love to be your friend too!’’

Randy and Dimond went on talking about their lives, and feelings. The more they talked to each other, the more comfortable they were with each other. Then after awhile, they forgot what they were looking for, but didn’t say anything about it.

‘’Hey, uh, wonna go some where tonight? I can show you around town, and we can go out to eat if ya want. I wonna get to know you a little more. You up to it?’’ Randy asked nervously, and just glared into Dimond’s eyes. Her eyes were wide open, and they were hooked to Randy’s eyes. Then she replied, ’’I would love to do that! Oh Randy, this is gonna be great! I cant wait!’’ Dimond was smiling, and her tail was straight up, and wagging. Randy smiled back. Then he said quietly, ’’great.’’ and they started to move back to their pack’s cave, forgetting what they had to find.

It was almost noon, and all Randy and Dimond can think about is the date.
