Balto: Le Mans

Author : Wolf_Bassist

Date sent : September 10, 2008

Rating : PG (Parental guidance suggested)

Category : Crossover

Description : This is my first attempt at a Balto crossover and a Balto characters as anthros-type of story. In this parody of the 1971 Steve McQueen film Le Mans, Balto plays the role of a young sports car racer who returns to compete in the famed 24-hour race one year after a serious crash that almost claimed his life. Along the way, he goes to the edge for his team, his journalist girlfriend (Jenna) and himself competing in IMSA GT Championship. Note: Unlike the movie, which was based off the 1970 running of the race, which was set in the era of the 5.0 liter sport class that featured cars like the Porsche 917K and Ferrari 512S, this story is set in the Group C era of 1982-1993. Rated PG for descriptive racing accidents (some of them fatal), (car, event and series sponsor-related) alcohol and tobacco references and infrequent mild language.

I really liked reading this fanfic, as a fan of both Balto and auto racing itself. I especially liked the detail of the events, especially Kyle's crash at Mid-Ohio, which reading made me feel like I was watching an ESPN broadcast of the race, as well as the general plot, plus the fact that you didn't put the cliche of the hero winning, even though I can bet anybody who's read this was hoping that Balto would win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Pehaps I myself should try my hand at a racing fic now. Your fic really made me want to try one now.
Overall, great fic.

Of note, readers, the date sent is incorrect. That was when I started working on it. This story was originally a follow-up to Invasion, but I decided to go with this story due to the fact that the Invasion follow-up (titled Through My Ice Blue Eyes) didn't have much of a firmly established plot and a scarce appearance of Balto characters. The correct date sent was actually about June 15 or 16.
