Chapter 2: Confidential Partners
Cyber was now in the city. He walked around jaw-dropped looking at the small town and how much it had to offer. He wandered around an alley-way corner and saw some sled dogs chuckling at something behind some trash cans.
"Wanna-be!" one shouted, "Halfie!" said the other. Cyber came out from behind the corner and looked them straight in the eyes, "Who are you calling halfie, pup?" Cyber asked in a low and angry tone.
"N-n-n-n-nobody" stuttered the golden dog. "We were just, just passing by to, um, to....."
Cyber glared at him, "To what?" he asked.
"Help our friend up." finished the black and white husky, stepping forward. "Balto here slipped and fell and we were trying to help him up. Isn't that right Kaltag?" he said quizzically nudging the other dog.
"Y-yes!" said Kaltag nervously. "Just helping old Balto up here, heh, heh heh. There you go buddy," he said as he lifted a brown-gray wolf-dog out of the snow, "all better, now let's go Steele." he whispered walking away, but Steele didn't go.
"Never seen you around these parts wolf, you new or something?" Steele asked approaching Cyber head-on. "We don't take so kindly to new comers here." he said with an evil grin.
"And I don't take kindly to sleezy old huskies such as yourself!" Cyber said back.
"Fine, but your making enemies with the wrong crowd bub, oh well." he said as he grinned and walked off into the dimly lit street.
Cyber grimaced, then looked down at Balto, the name, oh! He remembered his task and introduced himself, helping him up, "You okay?"
"I'll be fine." Balto said with a weary grin. "Thanks for helping, guess I'll see you around." Balto said as he started to walk off in the alley towards a boat.
"Wait," Cyber said, grabbing Baltos' shoulder. "Anui, your mother, I met with her in the tundra, she guided me to this place and asked me to help you."
Balto stopped and turned around, "Listen, I don't appreciate it when others make up stories about my mother okay?"
Cyber let his hand off of Baltos' shoulder and frowned. "I really did, she told me about a girl named Rosie......" Cyber stopped, looking at the surprised look on Baltos' face.
"My mother doesn't show herself to anyone unless it's important, I guess you should come with me." he said jeering his head in the direction of the boat.
After a few hours of explaining their stories to each other, Balto sat up and yawned, it was getting late and he should probably get to bed, but seeing as Cyber would be staying with him for a few months, he gave a tour of the town.
The two headed back into the town, there Balto introduced Cyber to the alley ways, the safe meat shops, and the boiler room. When they were leaving the boiler room, however, they heard a noise and crept back in.
"Come on baby." said Steele, "just a little kiss for sweet old Steele?" he asked getting closer to the other husky.
"Get off of me you pig!" she screamed as she kicked him off of herself and tried to escape only to be tackled by Katalag, Steele, and two other dogs.
"Who is that?" Cyber whispered to Balto.
"Jenna!" he said with panic in his voice. Then he strode out onto the floor and demanded that they let her go.
"Well if it isn't Bingo!" Steele said sarcastically, getting off of Jenna and walking towards Balto.
"Let her go Steele!" Balto said again.
"Balto!?" Jenna said hopefully, "Balto please help me!"
Cyber scratched his head and stepped out cracking his neck, "Steele, how about you do me a favor, spare yourself some unwanted pain, and let the lady go?"
"I see you brought along your lackey? Very classic, It won't do you any good though, you're both dead!" Steele said launching at them.
Cyber and Balto dodged to different sides, then Cyber made the first hit on Steeles back, biting down hard. Cyber summoned some of his wolf strength and flung Steele onto the floor, breaking his hind leg.
He tried to stand, but it was no use, he fell right back down, bleeding. "Nikki, Star kill them!" Then the two other dogs leapt from Jenna, snarling and bearing their teeth.
"Whatever." said Cyber, "Two more won't hurt." Then Cyber swirved around them almost disappearing and hit their backs with his front paws, causing them to collapse under their own weight.
"Too easy, I hope you can put up a better fight Kaltag." Cyber said dissappointed and turned towards the husky who was now shaking in fear.
Kaltag looked left and right at the three who had been beaten so easily and yelped when Cyber got close. Then Cyber leaned in very close.
"Boo!" he said. Then Kaltag went up yelping and ran off. "Hahahahaha!" Cyber laughed ad he watched a thin yellow trail appear in the snow where Kaltag had run.
Jenna got up and stood near Balto, the two looked at each other blushing, "I...are you okay?" he asked. She nodded back to him and gave him a slight nudge to the neck and thanking him and Cyber both.
"You'll pay for this wolf-dog! You and Jenna and your little wolf friend too!" Steele yelled angrily as the three walked out of the boiler room together.
"I should go, Rosies probably waiting for me and..." Balto hushed her by putting his nose to hers and whispered to her "Go."
Jenna trotted off a little, looked back then kept going. Balto stood watching but was interrrupted by Cyber waving his paw in his face. "Balto?" he asked. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine, really." Balto replied quickly and turned to Cyber. "We should get going too, Boris is probably wondering where I am."
"Boris?" Cyber asked. But Balto was already heading back to the boat. Cyber started to follow, then he looked back at where Jenna had been standing, then looked back to Balto. He knew what was going on, I mean, it wasn't really that hard to tell, but he kept it to himself, smiled, and followed Balto back to the boat.
When they got back to the boat, they were greeted by a wailing goose, wrapping himself around Baltos' neck and giving him a lecture.
"Don't you ever do that to me again!" he said pointing at Baltos' face. "And who is this?" he said pointing at Cyber. "You can't just bring others onto our boat Balto!"
Balto layed down on his blanket and raised his voice, "Boris! Relax. He's a friend of mine, he wont hurt you!" Then he put his head down, Boris' followed.
Cyber smiled and remembered his mother and father, then walked over to the ships bow, layed his back against the cabin side, closed his eyes and drifted off into a deep sleep.
A voice came to him in his sleep, it was Anui. "Cyber, well done, finding Balto and demonstrating your power on Steele." Cyber looked up and laughed. "What is so funny?"
"That was nothing!" he said still laughing,"He's all bark and no bite!"
"Right," she said, "but I come bearing more news of the future, beware of a being by the name of Zhock."
"Zhock?" Cyber said losing his breath. "Zhock killed my father, and my mother.
Anui gasped. "So you have heard of him? You already know of his power?"
"Yes." Cyber breathed out, regaining his wits. "Don't worry, I've got a score to settle with him already, this entire dilemma makes him an even easier target."
Anui then stated "Careful Cyber, he has gotten more powerful, and he can kill you, he's merciless, but you already knew that. Make sure Balto gets the medicine here, Zhock will try to stop him in whatever way he possibly can!"
"Alright." Cyber said smiling. "I'll be sure to look out for him, and thanks Anui."
"Good luck young hero." Anui said as her voice echoed out until it was no more.
Then, vision became black, and Cyber continued to sleep, for tomorrow, Balto would begin to train!
