Yin was running, she heard them on her heels, nipping at her flanks. But the thing she heard the loudest was her father howl at her to return or die. Yin was two years old and totally black except for the white spots on her nose, back, stomach, paws, and tail. She was running faster than she had ever ran before.
*****
Yin woke up the in the crisp fall air. She was really hungry. When she stood up she noticed that the air was colder than she last remembered. She must have gone farther north than she realized.
As she started walking down the hill she remembered that she had to beware of her father's spies. She was so relived that she lost them two days ago. She had been running from them for three weeks ! She came across a stream and stooped to get a drink. Smash!!
Yin whipped her head up and took in a deep breath. She could smell this familiar scent. It was so rich, so inviting, her nose was practically jumping off her snout!
The brush rustled. The fur on Yin's back stood up and she prepared herself to fight. She was weak from loss of food, but she would rather die than return to her father.
"Who's there?" Yin called. Out of the brush came a male wolf with a dead rabbit in his mouth. He was white except for the black and red markings on his face, tail, chest, neck, and back. His ears went forward when he saw her. One of his eyebrows went up after looking at her strange stance. He was twice as big as her.
"Easy there missy. We don't want anyone getting hurt." He chuckled as he came to the stream. "Looks like you're a bit hungry."He tossed the rabbit to her. Yin laid her ears back and trembled as if the rabbit was poisoned, or something like that.
"Come on now, don't be scared." Yin was emmitting a strong scent of fear. Dispite his size, he had a soft feature to his eyes.
"Can... you..."Yin whispered.
"Excuse me?"He said. Yin nervously shifted her weight, and began to nibble at the rabbit.
"Are you a wolf?"After thinking about that smell she realized that he couldn't be a pure wolf. But that smell it reminded her of something far away, that happened.
"Well, I'm not a pure wolf, I'm a hybrid."
"A what?"
"A hybrid is half a husky and half a wolf"
"Oh...Okay.Can you show me some more food?"
"O.K., But you'll have come with me afterward."
"Wait, no! You must work for my father!" With that she sprang past him and ran as fast as she could away from him.
"Hey! Wait!" He called after. Sighing, he started to chase after her.
*****
The hybrid walked along the beach. He let the cold ocean water nip at his toes. He sat in the sand.
"I'm sorry." He whispered, letting the wind take the words from him. Yin walked out from behind a sand dune.
"Why didn't you tell me this before? That you worked for my father." She demanded.
"Who is your, father?"He asked.
"Don't play stupid, every one knows that Yin, me, is the daughter of the wolf emperor of china, Yang Chin." Either he was playing stupid, or he truly didn't know. Yin thought.
"So thats your name, Yin. That's very pretty, my name-"
"I don't care who you are, just answer my question!" Yin demanded.
"I'm part husky, so,I'm owned by a human. He is waiting for me. I will be going to Alaska in three months, or right before the water freezes."
"So you don't know my father?"
"No" Yin looked a little embaressed.
"All right, I will go with you. I have no one to talk to."
"How old are you?" he asked.
"This is my second year." Yin stated proudly.
"Well, Miss Yin, please come with me." he turned around and started to walk back tword the forest.
Yin looked out to sea. A snowflake landed on her nose. The first snowfall of the season. Yin thought. She looked up at the graying sky and sighed.
"You comin'?" the hybrid called.
"Yah, I comin'."Yin started to walk toward him and a snowflake caught her off guard and icely touched her back, causing her to yip and scoot forward. Blindedly she accedentally bumped into the hybrid. He just smiled and shook his head. They continued together through the forest.
*****
They traveled together for miles, often playing with each other. Every night Yin would curl up by herself with the hybrid still awake. The next morning he would be sleeping right beside her.
The night that they met it snowed and didn't stop snowing for a week. The forest was soon covered with a thick blanket. Food was also becoming scarce.
One night Yin asked how old the hybrid was.
"Heh, heh, well missy if its just in between me and you," he winked."I'm three years old."
"I always thought you were five or older, you're so big." He smiled when she said that.
"What is your name?"
"Oh, so now I can tell you." Yin nodded.
"My name is-"
"BEAR!" Yin howled. The hybrid leapt up and directly ran in front of Yin, for an angry boar was attacking.
"Go! Run!" He shouted. He ran at the bear, attacking it's eyes. The bear attacked with his huge clawed mitts. Slashing at the hybrid, the bear ripped the hybrid's back leg, to the boneand almost ripping it off.
With blood everywhere, the hybrid limply fell to the ground. A slow line of blood ran down to the ground from his mouth. He struggled to get up. Roaring, the bear caught sight of Yin and charged her. Yin, watching the horrific scene, had frozen with her eyes wide open and her ears plastered against her head.
Yin suddenly woke up, as if she was transported from another world.. Finding her senses, she dodged the bear and instead of attacking its eyes, she bit down onto the bear's soft nose and tore it off.
The bear screamed in agony, as blood sped all over its face. The hot, stinging blood got into the bear's eyes, blinding him. The bear shoke his head, trying to rid the blood out of its eyes.
Yin, spitting the rubbery nose, leaped, and lukily, hit her target. She jumped down and spat out the throat that she tore out.
*****
They fed well on the bear, for the hybrid was too weak to hunt, let alone walk. After about two weeks, the hybrid's leg had healed completely and was well, although he had a limp, could walk.
They traveled throught the countrty, heading sothward. After what seemed like two months, they came upon a large, green house.
"This is where my master lives. Don't worry. He's a kind person, you can trust him, he'll take care of us."Yin still didn't trust the place, but an odd felling made her stick to the hybrid's side.
They hadn't talked much during the trip, so Yin had become silent. When the hybrid's master saw them, he took them inside and fed them. The next day, while Yin and the hybrid were asleep, Matt, the hybrid's master, put them into crates, seperate crates. While the crates were being borded onto the ship, Yin woke up.
*****
"Wha? Where am...I..?"Yin sleepily wondered.
"Yin!"the hybrid called.
"Yeah! Where am I? There.. ther... theres hardly any space in, this...this...thING!!" Yin didn't like where she was.
"Don't worry, Yin, you'll be fine. Matt will let us out after the voyage ends. We'll be fed regularly. Just go back to sleep. My crate is right beside your's, I'll be right here if you need to talk to someone."Strangely enough, he knew just how to comfort Yin, for she fell asleep soon after.
****
A few days after they left the port, Yin started to begin to heat. Apparently, she was the only female and was surrounded by males, because there was alot of howling.
One night, Matt and another breeder walked down in front of Yin's crate.
"Is she that wolf you were talking about?" the stranger said.
"Yeah, I've choosen Fox, he's my best breeder."
