days later.

Cronos groaned a whimper Dad hasn’t visited yet. And there’s a fence blocking every way in. How is going to visit? He closed his eyes he whimpered he missed his father. “Hey.”

“GOSH!” Cronos jolted backwards hitting the house. “Owwww.” He mumbled to himself.

“You shouldn’t bolt like that, it can hurt you a lot there Cronos.” He looked up at his father.

He shook his head, “How’d you? Get in, it’s blocked every where.” Cronos looked down the house to the way they usually left; a fence blocked it. “Then how’d you.”

Balto smiled, “I keep my promises Cronos, where’s the rest of ya?”

He was about to answer but his ears folded back, “I don’t know.”

“Nothing to be ashamed of Cronos, we just go to go find them, as father and son what else?” his father asked, trying to cheer him up. “Any idea where they are?”

He paused, “Ah, maybe inside…” Cronos wasn’t really sure; he spent the day waiting so he didn’t know.

“Well then why don’t we look?” Balto offered his son Cronos.

“Sure, dad.” He softly said disappointed in himself. What eating him? Balto thought to himself. They both walked to the side when they could see Cinder on his back asleep with his back leg twitching.

“Stay here and be quiet for a moment ok?” Balto asked his son, Cronos nodded his head not really knowing why he had to be quiet.

Balto quietly walked up to Cinder so he had no chance at waking up. When he reached Cinder he lifted his paw pushing his son’s shoulder then quickly jumped over him. Cinder awoke almost instantly he jolted awake and franticly looked to the side where he had been touched. Cinder moved his head franticly, he stopped when he saw Cronos, he paused think it must have been Cronos but he was way over there. He suddenly jolted to his other side as he felt another touch from somewhere he looked and saw nothing “What the…” He said to himself confused. “Yo.” The sound came from his right ear. He jolted away from it. Balto stood there amused and walked back to Cronos. It took a moment for Cinder to understand his eyes moved back and forth a few times. He looked down his left and down his right. “Cool.” He said to himself realizing what happened.

“Alright.” Balto said to himself. Where’s Jenna now? he looked around for a moment.

“Oh dad, Rosé took Mother out for a walk.” Cinder chimed in as if answering his thoughts.

“That figures.” He said jokingly, “Yeah that’s how the world works.” He smiled, “Anything happened lately?” he asked his sons.

Cinder paused for a moment, “Well I heard a new word, I don’t know what it meant but, I know it was to Cronos I don’t know if was a complement, or an insult either way it didn’t make sense.”

“Oh.” Balto said with interest, “What was the word?” Balto dared a glance at Cronos who moved slightly away from his sight.

Cinder paused he looked at Cronos who nodded his head to him, Cinder shrugged, “Some guy on the sled team said this to him, ‘Hi you tramp-in-son.’”

He looked over at Cronos by his looks He could tell Cronos knew what the word meant. He dug his paw into the ground, why…

“Dad are you alright?” Cronos asked, seeing his fathers paws dug in the dirt.

“I think he has an itch.” Cinder said like a smart guy. “You should just itch it Father.”

“Speaking of itching. You know when Rosé itches your chin or belly your leg just starts twitching?”

Cinder nodded his head, “Yeah it’s freaky! It twitches so you try to stop it and it twitches even more you can’t control it!”

Cronos nodded his head, “Dad do you know why that is its just moves.”

He wanted to answer his sons but he couldn’t he didn’t know what it felt like, or how it felt to itched by a human, maybe once or twice on the ear. He blinked, “That’s a wonder.”

Cronos sat and itched his ear, “Wonder?”

He smiled, “Wonder means like you never know, or how it is possible.” Crack! The three turned their heads to the fence.

“Stupid TREE!!” they heard from the other side, “You won’t get my friend today!” it was banged again, “Ouch ok you win today!” They heard it wonder off.

Cinder walked to the fence, which was bent. He shook his head, “What was that?” Cronos looked at the fence, the voice was familiar to him.

The day past on Balto stayed though it all, was late when Jenna finely appeared. Balto had gotten to wrestle Cinder. she walked to the scene, “What Balto what are you doing here?”

Balto looked up at her, “Just dropped by.” He said with a smile he was laying down flat on his belly with Cinders front half under him trying to pull away.

She could hear the muffled voice, “I can’t breath!” She looked at him with some anger, “He said he can’t breath.”

Balto shrugged, “He said that five minutes ago, if really can’t breath he couldn’t talk. The muffled voice returned, “I really can’t breath!!”

She gave him an evil glare; he gave in, “Alright.” Balto lifted himself up. Cinder jolted backwards and took a huge breath.

“For moment I thought you where going to kill me.” Cinder said.

His father laughed at him “Believe me Cinder, you where no where near that point.”

“YES! I was!!” He called back in protest, “How would you know?”

Balto sighed and smiled at him, Cronos rolled his eyes, and he knew what his father was about to say. “Remember that story that you mother tells you about…me?”

Cinder nodded his head somewhat angry, “Yeah why?!”

Balto rolled his eyes, “You know in the part, where I’m attacked by a bear, and your mother saved me?”

Cinder shook his head repeatedly, “I know, I know I know! Gosh I’ve only heard it-”

Balto interjected him, “The part after that?” He asked calmly.

“You lead the bear to the ice and fell though and then you fell though the ice and drowned.” Cinder said broadly, He suddenly tensed up, “Oh, yeah…”

Jenna twitched at the memory scratching the ice, Balto being moved away from under the ice. Those moments still brought her nightmares. “He did drown their Cinder, but I won’t be the first to say it.”

Cronos cocked his head with interest, “Whyyy?” he said in a puppy tone.

Cinder answered for her, “Denial, females don’t like admitting something really bad happened in the past or then.”

She frowned, “That’s not true.” She looked at Balto, “You don’t actually believe that?”

He made a shyly smile “Jenna Well…”

She scoffed, “Males…” she didn’t like it when they did that; sometimes I wish I bore females then those two.

She noticed Cronos reaction to her scoff, she listen carefully she heard him say, “Males…I’m I really like that?” She wondered about him, she saw Cronos look at the moon.

Cinder paused, “Hmmm. Father where do puppies come from?”

He shook his head “No! Not that again!” he laughed, “If you win at a wrestle I will tell.”

Cinder frowned “That’s not possible! Man! Well, I could ask Terry.”

He shook his head, “Don’t. She is a little touchy on that subject.”

Jenna walked over to Cronos who stared at the moon, “Hey what’s going on?”

Cronos turned to his mother, “Oh…nothing.” He returned his gaze at the moon.

She giggled, “Your obviously doing something.” She nudged her son, trying getting him talk.

“Why is the moon…?” Cronos stopped, She moved closer saying continue without saying anything.

“Why is it wondering to…look at?” He finely said, rather frightened.

She smiled, “That normal Cronos, no need to be frightened by saying that, what you like.”

He whimpered, “But…I don’t see you or Cinder doing that…”

She sighed, “Cronos…” why does he do that, why does he think liking other things then other dogs is wrong? I don’t want to tell him he is wrong. “Everyone different Cronos, I wonder about the northern lights, that always gets me, also if you watch your father will do that time to time, look at the moon.” She went back to Balto and Cinder.

He watched her leave, my dad does things I do…I remember telling me never to worry to do things I want. I wanted to do this for as long as I can remember… Cronos felt himself get angry without realizing it; everyone treats me wrong…why…I hate it! I hate it! Then Cinder is treated normally is being like this wrong…dad isn’t treated that way. Cronos lowered his eyebrows with depression, It’s me…I’m the wrong I shouldn’t be here…I only reflect bad…I don’t want dad to see me fail…I don’t…

“Father can Terry read minds?” Cinder asked the topic somehow changed to the dogs they met in their life.

“It kind of does seem like that…a lot.” Balto finely said.

“Well Jake said that she could.” Cinder said while cocking his head. “Maybe she can say things in your mind too.”

Jenna laughed, “I don’t think so that is impossible.”

Balto stood up, “Nothing, is impossible!”

“Something has to be Father…everyone has limits.” Cinder pointed out.

He made a smile frown, “Don’t tell me odds.” Cinder and Jenna laughed. They turned to Cronos hearing him howl.

Cronos howled as load as he could get his voice would travel. Well I know…sometimes I wish I was someone else but I can’t be that. Never be afraid. Cronos lowered his head and raised his head again and howl again. Cronos knew the risk this was for howling like this, more mocking was his guess, but he didn’t care.

Fang staying on the outskirts of the town, looked towards the town, hearing howling, that’s that Cronos guy… He moved his eyes to the right. He heard yelling, “Now you, don’t shoot!!! AH!” He watched a gray wolf run into a forest. Who is that?

Nice story. Pete almost strikes me as a personification of
the dark side of the internet. Or modern "education," for
that matter.
