run around like crazy trying to find her. So he finally went back to the Opera House to see if she was there, and unfortunately came at the same time as Miss Stella, who was complaining about a note she had received that told her that if she was going to sing that night instead of Jenna, then a “Disaster beyond your imagination would occur.” The managers believed it was a bunch of baloney and convinced Stella to sing anyway. Later in the morning Jenna showed up again. And then in the evening, no one was listening to the Phantom. Steele was in Box 5, Stella was singing instead of Jenna and the managers had not payed the Phantom his salary. The Opera was going good. Except no one was looking at the really big chandelier. Halfway through Stella's song a powerful voice which could be heard through the whole auditorium said “Did I not instruct that Box 5 was to be kept empty?” Down on the stage Jenna (who was not supposed to talk) said quietly “ It's him.” Stella quickly scolded her saying “Your part is silent little toad.” The Phantom heard her and said “A toad madam? Perhaps it is you who are the toad.” Stella ignored him and started singing again. After all she was in the spotlight! She wasn't going to let some ghost ruin her performance. But that is just what he did. As she was singing she suddenly croaked like a frog. She stopped for a second and tried again. A loud resounding CROAK! Was all she got. And it kept happening! The whole time the chandelier had started swinging back and forth with it's light's flickering, and the Phantom laughing so hard and so loud you could hear it above all the ruckus that the audience was making. During all of this Jenna had run off the stage and ran into Steele. She quickly took him to the roof where she said they would be safe. Jenna began describing what she had seen down in the Phantom's house. “Half of his face is simply not a face. It has been torn horribly by something and, ugh! It was just awful!”
“Jenna” Steele said softly “Let me take you away from here, away from all this craziness. Let me free you from this burden.” He paused. “Let me marry you.”
“Ok Steele. But first, I have to tell you something. Balto is in love with me, and even though he is disfigured and what he did tonight... he's not a bad person. I want to sing for him one last time before we go.”
“NO! Absolutely not! If you want to marry me then we are leaving tomorrow no matter what!”
“Ok” said Jenna reluctantly. With that they walked away back inside the Opera. They did not however see the shape that had been following, clinging to the statue that was directly over the spot where Steele and Jenna were sitting. Nor did they notice the single teardrop that fell. Balto crawled down the statue and sat right where Jenna had just been sitting. He sat there for a few minutes and slowly got up and walked over to the edge of the rooftop. He seriously thought about jumping and ending the life that he never wanted. Until he started thinking about Jenna, and was determined not to give up. He turned and started making his way back home.
(The Next Day)
Jenna was excited about leaving with Steele but felt sorry for Balto. “Well, I better get him out of my mind” Jenna thought. She was supposed to meet Steele in forty-five minutes at the opera but she decided to meet him a bit early. Forty-five minutes later she was back at the house on the lake. Jenna woke up on Balto's couch not knowing what had happened. She sat up and saw a old goose sitting in a chair by a fireplace. Two polar bears were with him. One was really big and the other was really small. “Look, Uncle Boris! She's up” said the little bear in a childish voice. “Muk, how many times do I have to tell you not to call me 'Uncle' in public!” said the goose. “Excuse us” said the goose “My name, as probably you can guess is Boris, and these two balls of fluff are Muk and Luk.”
“How did you find this place?” asked Jenna.
“We have always known of it” said Muk.
“I'm the one who brought Balto here” said Boris.
“You know Balto?” asked Jenna with surprise.
“Of course we know him. We're his only friends.”
“How did you meet him?”
Boris was quiet for a while. “6 years ago I was traveling here to Paris with Muk and Luk, and as we were walking through some woods we heard loud barking and something roaring. We quickly ran to where the sounds were coming from and saw a dog fighting a bear that had attacked him. The dog was putting up a good fight but the bear was too big and strong, and the dog was too young. We ran in to try and help him. The bear saw us coming and realized it was outnumbered. It turned to leave but then quickly swung its paw at the dogs face and ripped half his face off. The bear then ran away, and the dog fainted from a combination of pain and sudden blood loss. So we took him in and tried to fix his face as best we could. He was unconscious for days. When he finally recovered we asked him where he was from and what had happened to him. He said that he was abandoned as a pup because he was part wolf and just began to wander. As he grew up he began to look more and more like a wolf with a little husky. He had to scavenge for food because no one would trust him with him being part wolf. He said people would mock him or make fun of him as he walked by. He started to make his way to Paris because he had heard that an opera house was going to be built and he loved music. So we took him with us because he was still weak from his fight with the bear. We also gave him a mask to hide the one half of his face that was damaged. When we arrived at Paris we all shared a room in a building close to where the opera house was being built. Every night Balto would go over and stare at the construction site. When it was almost finished he disappeared into the labyrinth of the building down to where we are now. He then began walking around the building in the shadows and dogs began to believe he was a ghost. As the years went by he built this house with the money he demanded of the manager. All he wants is to live a normal life where no one would make fun of him.” Boris was silent for a moment and said “That is where YOU come in Jenna. He has been watching you a long time. He was the one who requested you to come work here.” The whole time Boris was talking Jenna was silent. She felt very sorry for Balto. She realized all of a sudden Balto was not there.
“ Where is Balto, Boris?”
Boris looked at her and said “ He stumbled across a black market sale going on near the opera. He went down to break it up... and ended up saving your life.”
“What!?” yelled Jenna “What happened?”
“You stumbled across the sale while looking for Steele. You found him and he was not happy. Know why? Because he was in charge of the sale, and the moment you ran across it he looked at you and said “Sorry Jenna, but, can't leave any witnesses. Get ride of her guys” he told the men around him. One managed to knock something across your head and knock you out. I came and got you, brought you here, and went back. I just finished routing them and reporting them to the authorities. I'm afraid you won't be going with Steele anytime soon.”
Jenna was just about to faint when she saw who it was that was talking. Balto was standing there! She noticed that he was standing oddly. She looked and saw with horror that he had blood on his shirt. “What did he do to them?” Jenna wondered. Then she realized that the blood was coming from Balto! “You're wounded! What happened!?” “Steele saw me and shot me. He got away.” With that Balto decided to faint.(Again)
(The Next Day)(Again)
Jenna was no longer goo-goo eyed with Steele. She downright hated him! She could not believe that Steele was running black market deals behind her back. So that's how the de Chagny's got all that money. During the Revolution they had been selling goods that everyone else had needed just for a bunch of money. Steele loved money more than anything else, she realized. But one thing still bothered her. Balto had woken up during the night and told everyone that Steele had been buying things at the black market. Everyone wondered what he had been buying. Balto knew though. “ He was buying guns. A lot of guns. He was also buying the deed to the Opera House. I think Steele is planing something big and we need to find out what it is. Let's go try to find him.” So later that day they had looked for him everywhere, but no luck. That night there was going to be another show, and the managers were surprised when they received a note from the Opera Ghost (O.G) that Jenna was not to play that night at all. So, even though confused, they obeyed and put La Stella back in the lead role. (Even though she charged twice as much as usual) Steele arrived early that night at the opera and met with dogs of other prominent families who he was dealing with. They walked into a quiet area and he told them his plans. “Tonight's the night we'll make history, gentlemen. We will begin loading the weapons and supplies tonight. I talked to the managers and they have turned over ownership to me. My family and I, and all of you have too, have been stockpiling our weapons since the end of the revolution, and we now have enough to start a new revolution and put our families in control. Now, are there any questions before the opera starts, because I don't want to miss any.”
“Um, I have one” said Pierre, a small French poodle “What about the ghost said to linger in this
