All four members of my family, Mother, Father, Aeolius, and even Sol, were murdered. Mother and Aeolius were murdered by the wolverines; Father was murdered by a human, and Sol was murdered by...by my own friend...Mr. Leo...
It pained me to think think that my own brother not only betrayed me and left me to die, but that my best friend, dead or not, killed my own brother. I know Mr. Leo sent that lightening bolt down onto the ground to kill Sol. To be honest, and I hate myself for even thinking this, but I feel no remorse for Sol; he got what he deserved.
I hate myself for thinking this, for thinking my own brother's death was deserved. He was my own flesh-and-blood! No one...no one should think that about their own family member, especially their sibling. I sniffled back some tears and placed my paw over my muzzle, almost covering up my eyes in shame as I continued sniffing back tears. I didn't want Reynald to see me like this; he'd probably scold at me for not hunting and for crying over family members instead of howling for them.
That was the most 'honorable' way to mourn the dead, was to howl for them. At least, that's what Reynald told me. The last time I cried for a family member, Reynald hit me in the back of my head and told me to stop it, saying that it was a disgrace to cry like that...like a human...
"Luna?"
My paw slid off of my muzzle instantly as soon as I heard Reynald's voice. I lifted my head up and looked over my shoulder. I saw Reynald standing behind me, a puzzled and amused look was on his face as he chuckled, "Did you lose a kill already?"
I couldn't contain myself, I wanted to cry no matter how human-like it was, it was all I could do. Instead of answering him, I broke out into tears, sobbing and sniffing back snot that tried to run out of my nostrils. I cried even more as I thought of the beating and scolding Reynald would give me for crying like a human.
Immediately, not wanting to get scolded, I gasped my explanation through my sobs to Reynald, "I-I-I didn't wuh-want t-t-to see my m-muh-mother or my bruh-brothers get k-killed in front of m-me. I s-saw them get killed! S-so much b-blood, s-so much d-d-death..." I looked up at the sky and yelled at Mr. Leo, "Why Mr. Leo? Why did you k-kill my brother?! Y-you even c-called him y-your son! Wuh-what kind of f-father kills h-his own son!?"
"Luna," Reynald started. I looked down at the ground and closed my eyes, bracing my body for either a beating or a scolding. I choked back my sobs and continued sniffling as I waited for both Mr. Leo's reply and Reynald's reaction. Instead of a paw or an angry voice, I heard Reynald talk to me in a calm and soothing voice, "What is wrong, Pup? Why are you crying like this? And how do you know Leo?"
I looked up at him and stood up, facing him. I felt tears start to form inside of my eyes and I ran up to him, burying my face into his furry shoulder. I started to cry into his fur and I tried to stop, but every time I tried more tears just came rushing out of my eyes and I'd just cry even more.
"Calm down Pup, calm down..." Reynald cooed, not moving at all to try to remove me from him, "It's alright, no one will harm them now; now tell me what's wrong and how do you know who Leo is?"
I looked up at him and stopped crying as I looked into his eye. His gaze comforted me and I started to relax as I told him why I was crying.
"So..." Reynald started as I finished my explanation, "Leo can speak to you?" I nodded my head in reply. He sighed and chuckled, smirking in amusement. He looked down at me and said to me, "Well, whether you like it or not Luna, but the deceased wolf that was talking to you in your head is your father."
I looked at Reynald with wide eyes and whispered, "What? How?"
