Chapter 1

Kodi walked to the front of the line for the sled dog team. "You ready to do this?" Dusty asked him getting ready to pounce forward into a run. He nodded. "I guess..." Honestly Kodi was nervous. They where going on the hardest route. Kodi's heart was racing wildly. He stood blank for a moment. Kirby looked frustrated. "Come on Kod' what you waiting for?" Kirby muttered. Kodi shook his head coming back to the real world and nodded fast. "Yeah... uh... come on." He said leaping forward.

About thirty minutes later Kodi started slowing down breathing hard. Ralph looked at him concerned. "Hey, Kodster what's going on?" He asked. Kodi stopped in his tracks making everyone else bump into each other. Kodi shuddered. "Something isn't right..." He whispered. Everyone gasped. "What do you think it is?" Someone asked. Kodi was really nervous now. "I think it's a griz-" Before Kodi could finish his sentence there was a grizzly bear right before their eyes. Kodi began backing them up. They grizzly growled loudly at them.

Chapter 2

Kirby gasped running through the side of his spot breaking the leather. Kodi jerked to the side. "KIRBY NO! YOU'LL ONLY MAKE IT WOURSE!" He yelled. But, it was to late Kirby was sleeping down the slope and onto the frozen lake. "We have to save him!" Dusty said. Kodi shook his head to her. "No. We can't Dust. We have to stand up for our selfs." He said. Dusty jumped out of her spot. "Fine. I'm goin' after 'em." Dusty said. She ran down to the lake. "Kirby come on. I'll bring you up the slope." She said. Kirby ran up to Dusty. Dusty grabbed the scruff of Kirby's kneck. She pulled him up not hesitating. "That bear is pissing me off!" Kirby whispered to himself.

After twenty minutes Dusty got Kirby back up to the flat surface of snow. Kodi and the others where in bad shape and bleeding a bit. Dusty takled the grizzly and fell to the ground.

Kodi had tears in his eyes. "You know what? You guys go. I can't leave! I'm in to bad a shape. You could get killed! You go I'm stayin'. Like it or not." Kodi said. They all nodded.

Chapter 3

Kodi's screams and yelps filled the night. The grizzly was really trying to get rid of the husky-wolf. There was blood; a lot. It's over for me.... Kodi thought. But, it was true; he was about to look death in the eye.

Balto was on his boat alone sleeping. He heard howls and yelps. It sounded like his son. He woke up and ran following the sound.

Kodi was about to tumble to the ground. He felt like he was almost numb. He was about to give it all he got. "Hello beasty." He said. He was about to pounce on the grizzly bear. But, someone growled at him.

It was Balto. "KODIAK GET AWAY FROM THAT GRIZZLY!" Balto yelled. Kodi shook his head and put 'his claws away' and jumped down. "Oh my God! Come on son we'll walk around the ice and go the easy way around the side." Balto whispered caringly to his son.

Chapter 4

"What where you thinking?"  Balto asked. Kodi lay down breathing heavily feeling safe again. "I didn't. The mail team is my life! I couldn't back down and get fired. This means so much to me Dad! You just don't unerstand do you?" After Kodi's statments Balto growled. "I understand! You think the mail team means more than life and death?" Balto asked. Kodi shook his head. "No." Balto giggled. "Ya see? It isn't your life....................."
