Balto and Star's Reunion

"Balto? Why do you keep taking me here?" asked Jenna. "Well, my first girlfriend, Brandie. This is where I took her and then I took my only daughter here. Her name is Star. We sat and watched the sunset every night. Before the accident...." Balto trailed off. "Oh." Jenna sounded sad. "Tell me what happened. Unless you don't want to." Jenna said, as she moved closer to her new boyfriend. "Well. As Star and I were making our way to this exact spot. Thorne saw us and he ran up to us. I jumped at him to keep him from hurting Star. He grabbed me and threw me against a big boulder. I heard my spine crack. I watched in pain as Star tryed to defend herself. She ducked and dodged as Thorne was plowing himself at her. She ran over to me and touched my nose. I whispered to her, Star. I held my eyes open as Thorne rushed over and stepped on my side. Star growled and she pounced on his back. She bit his neck and he yowled in pain. He thrust her off his back and she hit the ground really hard. Thorne stomped over to her and picked her up. She struggled and struggled even with her hurtness. She found out that she couldn't get free. The last time she spoke to me were the words, "I love you dad! Please don't forget me!" And my eyes closed in horrible pain. I heard Thorne stomping away and Star screaming. That is all I remember." Balto finished as tears started rolling down his cheeks at the memory. "I miss Star all the time." Balto whispered. Jenna leaned her head on his furry shoulder and said sadly, "I feel terrible even if I wasn't there." "Just forget about it." Balto growled. "It is over and done with." With that, he turned away from Jenna and left her sitting all alone in the cold night.

"Jenna?" Said someone. Jenna's eyes opened from her deep sleep and what she saw frightened her. She jumped back in fright. "What are you?" Jenna asked frightened. "I am Star." "No your not. Balto told me about you and you are supposed to be dead." "No. I am not dead. Dad. Is he here?" Supposedly Star asked. "No. He went to his cave. He told me the story about you and him coming here when Thorne came. I didn't know what to say but I obviously said the wrong thing because he left. How do you know that we were here? How did you know my name?" Jenna asked because she wanted to know. "I was watching you all night." Star said. "Do you know where I could find Dad?" Star asked. "Yea. Follow me." Jenna said. Along the way, Jenna asked, "Where have you stayed all this time?" "Oh. I found a cave. I stayed there. I just couldn't face dad. Well not for a while anyway. I didn't know what he would do. Especially after what happened." Star explained. Jenna nodded and finally said, "Here we are. Do you want me to go in there and ask him to come out or do you want to go and talk to him yourself?" Jenna asked. "You go and get him out." Star said shakily. She still did not know what to say to Balto. A few minutes later, Jenna came out of the cave with Balto. Balto asked Jenna, "Jenna. Who is that?" "That. Is your daughter. Star. She isn't dead. She was alive all this time." Jenna whispered in Balto's ear. Balto cocked his head and asked Star, "Are you Star?" "Yes. Dad it is me. I am Star. I was alive all this time. I didn't know what to say to you after the accident. Dad. I am telling the truth. It is me. Star." Star explained quietly. Balto studied Star for a minute and finally saw the mark just above her right shoulder. It was in the shape of a star. "It is you! Star babygirl. Come here!" Balto said excitedly. He jumped up and ran over to Star. "I missed you. I thought you were dead. Come. Let's get you something to eat." Balto said. Star licked his ear and said, "Alright Dad." She followed Balto and Balto walked right passed Jenna as if he had completly forgotten about her.

After Star and Balto's meal, Jenna came up to Balto and asked in excitement, "Are we still going to the secret room beneath the hospital?" But Balto completly ingnored her. Later, as Jenna was talking to Dixxie, she said angrily, "Ok. I am glad that I got Balto and Star back together, but Balto is ignoring me and acting as if I don't exisit. Dixxie what should I do?" Dixxie said, "Whoa. Now Balto has gone too far. Ignoring you. No no no no no. I am not letting him do this to you Jenna. I will talk to him." Dixxie exclaimed as her tiny body shivered in the cold winter snow. Jenna started to say something but Dixxie had already scampered off.

"Oh Dad. This is the bomb. Let's just hope that Thorne doesn't see us. Oh yea. How come you don't hang out with that Jenna dog anymore? I really don't want to take away your real life." Star said. "Oh. Well you see. Star. You ARE my life. Jenna. She is just. Mostly just another dog. Another dog to fill the emptiness in my heart since you were gone. But now that you are back, I don't need her. I am not saying that I still don't love her. It is just that I love you more. Do you understand Star?" Balto tried to explain his best. "So that is how you think of me? Just another dog? Some great wolf you are." Balto turned to see Jenna standing there. Tears were streaming down her face. Soaking her beautiful fur. "Jenna. I-I didn't mean it that way." Balto began to say. "Than what did you mean?" Jenna blubbered. Balto was about to say something when Jenna ran off. Dixxie ran up to Balto and said, "Now. You listen here you overgrown mutt. Don't ever hurt Jenna again. You hear me?" She was jumping up trying to get high enough to nip Balto's face. Then she ran off. Balto looked over at Star. She had a mad look on her face. "Nice move Dad. I am glad to see you and all but when I take away your life, your girlfriend, your friends, this is too much. Honestly. I think you were way better off without me." With that, Star turned and stomped in the cave.

That night, Balto whispered to Star, "I have to fix things." But Star was already in too much off a deep sleep to hear. Balto tiptoed out of the cave and into the sleeping village of Nome. Rosie was in her bed at the hospital. She was better but she still needed to stay at the hospital. The medicine worked wonders. Balto went and scratched at the doggydoor at the hospital. Jenna wandered sleepily to it and went outside. "Balto. What are you doing here?" She snapped. "I want to appologize. What I said was wrong. You are more than just a dog. You are an amazing, beautiful, smart, kind, beautiful dog. And I love you. I didn't mean the things I said. And I am sorry for ignoring you and all. I was just so glad that my baby was okay. I am here to say sorry and I hope we can work things out. I am really sorry." Balto appologized. "If you don't accept my appology, I understand." Balto said. "I-I-I don't know what to say. Okay. I do. I am sorry for the way I acted. I am sorry too. I should have known you better than that Balto. I am sorry. I love you too." Jenna whispered. Balto smiled brightly. Jenna touched his nose and the two nuzzled for the first time in a few days.

"Dad?" Star asked the next morning. Balto woke up and remembered the night before. "Oh Star. I am sorry for the way I acted. Please accept my appology." Balto said to Star. "I do Dad." Star said immediatly. Balto nuzzled Star and said, "I love you babygirl." "I love you too Dad." Star whispered. Jenna knocked her paw on the cave wall. "Anyone home?" Balto smiled and walked over too Jenna. "Hey. I forgot the exact reason why you aren't in Nome. Remember that you are allowed in Nome?" Jenna asked. "Oh yea. I just love my home. Infact, why don't we go there right now so that Star can see the town?" Balto said. "Ok. That is a great idea." Jenna smiled at Balto. Star loved the idea also and they all went into Nome for the day. "Dad. Who is that handsome dog over there?" Star asked. She was looking at Steele. "Steele." Jenna answered for him. Then Steele walked up to them. He took Balto aside and asked, "Balto? Who is that girl with you?" "That is my daughter. Star." "She is really cute. Ask her to come over here. Wait. I saw her looking at me. What did she say?" "She said, Who is that handsome dog over there." Balto answered. Steele jumped up and down in excitement. Typical Steele. Balto walked over to Star and said, "He thinks you are cute. He wants to talk to you." Star smiled and walked over there. 20 minutes later, she came back. "Dad. Can I go with Steele to watch the sunset?" Then Balto had a flashback when he and Star went and Thorne was there. "If you see Thorne. Don't even try to fight him. Run to me right away." "Oh thank you thank you thank you dad." Star nuzzled him then ran off to Steele. The two dogs walked to where the best spot to watch sunsets were. "Do you want to watch the sunset Jenna?" Jenna nodded and they walked off into the distance.

The next morning, Star woke Balto up and said, "Thank you dad. Steele is so amazing." Balto said, "Anything for my Star." Jenna walked in and said, "Balto. Weren't we going to go to the village and visit Rosie?" "Rosie?" Star asked. "Oh. A really cute little girl. Do you want to come?" Jenna asked. Star nodded and the three walked off to the hospital.

The End

(Star is not Star from the actual movie. The Star in my book is Balto's daughter. Brandie is my character)
