Ch.3 A new life
Kuli continued to lick the wounds. Hiro's grey fur was once again stained with blood. When the wounds finally stopped bleeding Kuli laid down, tired and exhausted. Hiro was still breathing heavily. He was still struggling for life. Kuli waited and waited. Day after day he waited. He soon became hungry, but he did not go out to hunt. He did not want to leave Hiro's side. He finally could not stand the saddness that was bottled up inside him. He went to the entrance of the den. He sent a mournful song throught the mountains. He sang a song of Hiro, his life and his battle. When he was done he sat on his haunches and waited once more. Then he heard something unexpected. He heard a message saying: We will help you and your friend, please wait patiently for a small group of our pack to come and rescue you......
Kuli was excited. He knew that he could not heal Hiro alone. But maybe this pack can. And even better maybe they could both join the pack. Hiro barely opened his eyes, he could make out a figure. He knew it was Kuli. He did not speak but he knew that he could pull through. A sharp pain ran through his body. He could not feel his legs. He knew that they were probably broken. But his pains continued and sooner they put him to sleep. Now he was not breathing heavily. Kuli was now reassured that Hiro would be ok.
The next morning Kuli heard footsteps approaching the den. He arose from his sleep and walked to the entrance of the den. He saw four wolves walking towards him.
"Are you Kuli?" one of the wolves asked.
Kuli nodded and said
"Yes,"
The wolves walked inside the den. They examined Hiro carefully. Then the biggest of the four picked him up gently.
"Lets go," he said.
The leader of the small group went back to Kuli.
"My name is Doci. I am the beta of the pack and the leader of our small rescue team. Now if you will follow me please," he said
Kuli followed them obediantly. The sun was barely in the sky. They were soon off the mountains. The wolves walked throught the forest. The forest was surrounded by tall trees. The wolves kept on moving. Kuli followed at a slow pace trying to keep up. But the lack of rest and food made him weak. But he kept on going without speaking or complaining.
Finally by midday they came to a small clearing. There were many dens spread out through the forest. A wolf came out of his den and greeted Kuli.
"Hello my name is Uni the Pack's alpha. Come, you are in need of much rest. We have a spare den you can live in. We will take your friend to our healing den. You need not worry about him," He said kindly.
Kuli nodded. Another wolf showed Kuli to his den. Then the wolf left. Kuli laid down in the corner and fell asleep.
Hiro opened his eyes. He groaned trying to stand up. But he couldn't.
"Sir he's awake!" said a voice.
He could see a two wolves standing in front of him. He was still weak but he tried to stand anyway.
"Whoa there sparky. You can't get up yet we've still got alot of healing to do, Im Meko the master healer. Don't try to stand yet, you've got broken legs. Whatever happened to you took a serious toll on you, just hold still," he said.
Hiro felt a sharp needle-like pain piercing his body. Suddenly he felt sleepy he became dazed. His eyes drooped and he fell asleep.
"Sir are you sure he needed to be injected with the dinji poison?" asked the assistant.
"Well yes it is known for healing wounds. But the only side effect is that whoever is injected with it is put to sleep for seven hours. His legs are in terrible condition. Go get me some dumi weed and more kusi plant fast," he said
The assistant left the healing den to search for the items. Hiro was sleeping soundfully while Meko injected different needles into him.
Meanwhile Kuli had awakened. He went outside. There were many wolves in the clearing. Most were mothers with their pups. The males were walking toward the edge of the clearing. Kuli followed them. He knew that they were going to go hunt. He followed along with the rest of the pack. They spotted game. A large family of deer. Kuli stayed low. One of the wolves sprang up and pulled down one of the deer. The rest of the pack took down a big moose. Kuli joined in, he was the on to pull down the moose. The rest of the group killed the moose and the other deer. Kuli finally got something to eat he tore off a hind leg of the moose. A big peice that filled his stomach. He finished his share and walked off back to the clearing. He went back to his den. He sat on his haunches and once again waited. He sat and wondered about Hiro. What was happening in the healing den. He went outside again, his head drooped down in thought. Suddenly he accidently bumped into another wolf. She was a female. Kuli jumped back. He stared at the other wolf. It was a female.
"Uh um ah," he muttered
"Its alright, Um Im Sila,"said the female.
Kuli was in a scramble for words. But he managed to say something.
"Im Kuli, and I am terribly sorry um Sila," said Kuli.
Kuli began to turn. But he turned too much and hit his head on the side of the den. Smooth.....he thought.
He quickly scrambled to his feet and ran off.
Hiro awakened he was no longer sleepy. His stomach grumbled. He was alone in the den. He graoned and once again tried to get to his feet. This time he succeeded. He slowly walked out of the den. He stared out into the clearing. He saw many wolves. Now he bacame confused. Where was he and why. Meko was walking back to the den he saw Hiro and rushed toward him.
"You shouldn't be up yet your legs shouldn't even have mended that fast," he said
"Well Im up and I feel fine. Thanks for taking care of me," He said
Hiro walked away. Meko gawked in amazment. Nobody has ever recovered that fast.......he thought.
