Ch.2 Old Scars

Hiro awoke the next morning. Kuli was still asleep. Hiro went to the entrance of the den. He once again overlooked the mountain. He could not stop thinking about the fight. When Kuli rescued him the memory of the fight was blurred. He kept on pondering the thought. But he could not remember anything no matter how hard he tried. His deep thinking was interrupted by a big yawn. He looked back and saw Kuli stretching his legs.

"Morning,"he said.

"Morning,"Hiro said.

Kuli started chasing his tail again. Hiro went back to his deep thinking. Now he was wanting to know who was his attacker. Who had almost killed him. He closed his eyes and saw the figure of the other wolf. Then he searched deep into his memories. He found a match. His rival since he was a yearling. Kalu was his name. Kalu matched the exact figure of the wolf. But still Hiro was not sure. It could have been any wolf with problems to workout..... he thought. Kuli was laying on the floor sprawled out. His long tail touched his muzzle.

"Gotcha, haha," he said clamping his tail with his teeth.

Kuli spit his atil out and went over to Hiro. He looked at him. He noticed that he was not doing anything, so he left the den.

"I'll be right back," he yelled back as he went up the mountain trail.

Hiro began to follow Kuli. He was quite a distance behind. All on the mountain was silent. The serene plateu was a beautiful place. Hiro had chosen to live here because of this. But the silence was broken when Hiro heard Kuli yell for help.

"Arggghhhhhhhhhhhh," he cried

Hiro followed the sound. When he got to the very top of the plateu he stared in terror to see Kalu on top of Kuli about to rip his vicious jaws on Kuli's throat. Hiro tackled Kalu to the ground. But Kalu recovered quickly. He shoved Hiro right into a large boulder. The impact knocked the boulder off the cliff. As Hiro stood up wearily his legs shaking Kalu kept on attacking. Kalu sent him flying toward the edge where Hiro landed half of his body still on the cliff. Hiro recovered and quickly jumped toward Kalu. He made a strike to Kalu's left shoulder, but Kalu shook him off viciously. Hiro continued to fight back but Kalu was older, bigger and stronger. Kalu pushed Hiro to the edge again. Kalu bit ferociously onto hiros neck. His blood spilled evreywhere. Hiro struggled. He lashed back and forth until finally Kalu lost his grip and was sent flying off the edge down into the large crevase. Hiro lay on the ground bleeding to death. Kuli watched in sheer terror as hiro lay bleeding. The clouds began to gather and small drops of rain fell from the dark grey sky. Half of Hiro's throat was punctured. Hiro lay lifelessly on the ground. He could hear his heart pounding. But his vision became foggy and he did not have enough energy to even stand up. His eyes closed. Goodbye Kuli...... he thought as a total darkness consumed him. Kuli nuzzled him. He was sobbing hoping for a sign of life. But the only thing that reassured him was Hiro's heavy breathing.

"Please don't go I don't want to be alone!" he cried.

Tears continued to fill Kulis eyes. But hiro still lay on the ground lifeless.

The rain got worse. And Hiro was still alive barely clinging to his life. Kuli dcided to take Hiro back to the den. With that he tried not to move Hiro but slowly placed him on his back. He walked down the trail and into the den. He carefully set Hiro down. Kuli was still sobbing. He felt helpless because he could not do anything to help. But all he could do was lick Hiro's still fresh wounds and hope that he would soon recover.
