Balto's Adventure

Ch.3

Balto awoke the next morning. He gave a huge yawn. Kane was already awake.

"Good morning," he said

"Good morning," replied Balto

Kane had that sad expression on his face.

"Whats wrong," Asked Balto

Kane sighed. "Well its just. All my life I felt like I never belonged. I was always the last one to join in the group howl. Nobody not even my mother liked me. Then my dad challenged me. He said I could fight him to gain my place in the pack. Or I could leave the pack. I feel like I never had a father, or a mother,"Kane said. Tears swelled up in his eyes.

Balto listened. He could relate to this in a way.

"Kane look I know exaclty what you've been through. I know what its like to grow up without a father or a mother, I had Borris but its not the same," said Balto.

Kane wept. He laid down on the floor. Balto could understand the pain. He knew that Kane needed someone to comfort him. Balto never had that someone. He wasn't going to let Kane suffer that lonelyness.

"Kane. I want you to think of me..... as your father,"he said.

Kane turned and smiled.

"You really mean that,"

Balto smiled and nodded.

"Thank you so much. For everything." Kane said

"Hey don't worry about it, son," Balto said

"You know, when I first saw you I was really worried. Seeing you reminded me of the sick children. It was kinda like looking back into my memories. But I was just so worried," Balto said

"Look, Ba- I mean dad. I know this sounds crazy but I want to go back. I know that they won't accept me but maybe the fact that I made it all the way here might prove that I'm strong," said Kane

"Well that your discision now isn't it," said Balto.

Kane paced all day thinking if he should try to go back. He did not know where the pack was. But he could track them.

About an hour later Kane finally made his descision.

"Um, Dad. I know what I must do. I appreciate all that you've done for me. But I know where I belong. And that is with my pack," Kane said

"Well then lets get going!" said Balto.

Kane was surprised.

"Wait you're coming too?" He asked.

"What you thought I just let you go. Of course I'm coming," Balto said

"Well what are we waiting for you lead the way!" He said

Kane started off in the direction that he came from. Balto followed. Kane traced all his steps. Balto could tell that he was very good at tracking.

Hours later they came upon a large forest. The forest was covered in large trees. Kane kept on snifing.

"They're not to far from here. They're probably about 20 miles away. Lets keep-*gasp*" Kane was interrupted.

He went over to a seeming lifless wolf. The wolf had torn flanks his whole body was covered in deep cuts and gashes. The wolf was struggling with breathing. Kane examined closely.

"We have to help him!" said Kane.

Balto was also concerned about the wolf.

"Ok first we have to get him out of the cold wheather," said Balto

They carried the wolf into a small den nearby. Several times the wolf moved. Balto and Kane waited patiently. After a couple hours the wolf opened his eyes. He struggled but spoke.

"Balto......brother,"he said staring directly at Balto.
