Balto's Adventure

Ch.1

Balto awoke. The sun was barely rising. He gave a big yawn, streched his legs and went over to the water bowl. His thirst was quenched. By the time the sun was up he had been wide awake. He stared off into the distance. Every morning he looked over Nome wondering what Rosie and Jenna were doing. His thoughts were intrrupted by the sound of footsteps. He pricked his ears to catch the sound. It was coming from the edge of his boat. He went to see what the sound was. He saw a wolf who looked something like him. There was a sad expression on his face. He limped and had several deep cuts on his body. The wolf sat down next to the tip of the boat and began to lick his deep wounds. Balto jumped down. The wolf turned and prepared to strike.

"Hey um, I'm Balto. I don't mean any harm,"he said.

The wolf was silent. He stood down.

" I'm.....Kane," he finally responed.

" Wow you're really hurt Kane. What happened?" asked Balto.

"My.....my pack.......they......they....," Kane stopped. Tears filled his eyes.

"I'm sorry I shouldn't have upset you," said Balto.

"They shund me,because..... I couldn't,I just couldn't," said Kane.

Kane was sobbing. He finally finished."I couldn't kill my father,"

"Kill your dad why would you do that?" Balto asked

"My dad challenged me. I won but I didn't know I had to kill him. He told me it was the code of the wolf,but I just couldn't do it, so they shund me from the pack," Kane said.

Balto was shocked. He couldn't believe that Kane's own pack shund him. Kane kept sobbing. Balto felt sorry for him. He knew that Kane had done the right thing. But was getting shund by his pack really fair.

"Come on don't cry. It's not your fault. I could never bring myself to kill someone. Especially someone related to me,"

Kane sobbered up. Balto could see a small grin on Kane's face. But Kane began to cough and shivered violently.

"Hey whats wrong?" asked Balto.

"Oh it's nothing. I just fell into a lake on my way here. I'm ok." Kane said.

Balto walked over and felt the bottom of Kane's throat. He was very warm.

"Dosen't seem to fine to me," Balto said. "Come on over here," he said.

Kane limped up the ramp.

"Lay down," said Balto.

Kane laid down. Balto pulled the blanket over Kane.

"Alright stay here and get some rest. I'll be right back," said Balto

"Balto..... thank you." said Kane

Balto smiled and left.
