long. She could not revive her. The tears from Chinook fell on Lee’s coat. Lee was Chinook friend and Chinook would never leave her. The dogs were watching.

“You leash-lickers leave here now!” Chinook yelled. All of the dogs gave a glance at each other and ran away. Chinook gazed back at Lee. For a moment, Chinook thought that she was alive because she was moving a bit. Chinook shook her head.

The wolf pack looked at each other and walked away to the rendvouz site. Chinook watched them leave. More tears came down on Lee’s coat. Chinook lay down and rested her head on Lee.

“Why Lee, why must this?” Chinook whispered.

“You are my friend, and you must stay with me. I won’t be myself without you. You would be proud of me. I have wings now Lee. I know how much you wanted to fly.”

Chinook got up from where she lay. There was a wet spot where Chinook’s tears fell. She started to walk away when she heard a snap of a twig. She turned around to see nothing. Chinook continued to walk away.

“You’re my friend too Chinook.” A voice said.

Chinook stopped and looked back to see Lee getting up with an almost invisible smile.

“Lee…” Chinook gasped.

Lee got up and shook her fur free of dirt and leaves.

“Lee!” Chinook ran and jumped on Lee licking her face and nuzzling her neck. Lee was laughing harder than a bolder falling off a cliff. They rolled around in the dirt getting their fur dirty.

“How did you come back?” Chinook asked while laughing with joy.

“Your tears fell on my coat.”

“Yeah…”

“They traveled through my heart they helped me come back.” Lee told her while laughing.

Chinook got up and shook while spreading her wings to free them of dirt.

“Wow.”

“Yeah, I know!” Chinook looked back at her wings.

Chinook walked over too Lee and licked her on the face. Lee looked at Chinook and laughed.

“Let’s go home” Chinook said to Lee.

Chinook and Lee walked away toward the sunset to the rendvouz site.
