Jack… you bit their sides so much that all of their fur falls out and blood stains the ground. I can’t stand to see you do that either.”
“Why do I even do this? I hate it!! And to see you do it, Kiraea started to growl, makes me wonder why I even work with you guys.”
“Every time is even see Pycraft with his gun, I freak out and get scared, because I’m his best girl and he will always count on me to find the wolves. If I don’t, he calls me stupid and dumb. I’m an abused dog.” Kiraea cried. Her soft tears fell on to her coat. Angus and Jack were stunned to hear about Kiraea’s story. The new dog jumped in the back of the truck where Kiraea was sitting.
She looked at Ash and felt a tiny surge of joy. Kiraea was thinking that maybe this dog would under stand her story. Unlike Angus and Jack, they sure didn’t. Ash looked at the three Irish wolfhounds and gave a small growl. Angus looked at him and snarled. Ash halted and flattened his ears.
“You don’t like hunting too?” Angus growled.
“No… I….I… don’t. I… don’t even know why I’m here.” Ash said in a small voice. Kiraea looked at him and gave him a smile.
“I don’t like hunting either.”
The whole pack was tired. Chinook and Whitelynx were leading, but they too were falling behind. The beta female, Wolfhound, was so tired that she was stumbling. Chinook had to help Aspen many times. She was only a few weeks old. And she was going to a new place to call home. The wolf pack was hoping for a great place.
After a few days, the pack was extremely exhausted. The place they wanted to call home was also burned. Chinook still pressed on ward with her mate at her side.
One hour had passed. And they still had no place to call ‘home’. Then suddenly, there was a hill, it was huge! Chinook ran up it to see what was on the other side. Everyone heard her gasp. They too, had run up to the top of the hill. And there it was. A beautiful, gorgeous forest and water fall. The space was occupied by a lush, thick forest filled with pines and other types of trees. There was a big lake in the middle of it all, with a water fall that came from the mountains above. Around the lake and trees, it was open field with dark grass and light grass mixed together.
Chinook over joist and howled to show she was very pleased with what she found. This territory was there new home. There were even wild horses that were grazing in the fields. Whitelynx was terrified of wild horses after what happened to him. All the wolves started to play and wrestle with each other. Chinook was pleased with what she saw out of her pack.
This is the way everything should be!! Everything so… beautiful!! And with this water fall and lake, we will have water, unlike in our old rendvouz site. Chinook thought. She looked up at the blue sky and gave a long drawn out howl, part moan, part cry of triumph. All the other wolves stopped and listen in awe. They knew, Chinook was their alpha female, and they trusted her with their life.
The truck halted and Pycraft got out with his gun. He opened the back door and all four dogs jumped out. Kiraea was sticking close to Ash.
“Let’s go! We can’t stay here all week. We need to find a wolf or find some wolves!” Pycraft laughed
“Okay Kiraea! Find me a wolf or more! You’re my best girl. Angus, get ready for hunting. Jack gets ready to bite and tear.”
Kiraea stared at Jack and Angus. She didn’t pay attention to Ash. Ash was very surprised that Kiraea was that serious about not hunting, and the point that she didn’t like Pycraft. Angus and Jack loved Pycraft. But Kiraea didn’t like him, she hated him!
They got out of the parking lot and went deep into the forest, where Chinook and her pack were placed. But it was farther into the forest. The sight sickened Kiraea when she saw Angus sniffing out the scent of the wolves. Pycraft stumbled along the path that Angus was taking. Pycraft looked back at Kiraea.
“Com’on Kiraea, come to papa.” He cooed
The sound made Kiraea lift up her ears. She wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with her.
“Come here baby, sniff out a wolf for me.”
Kiraea looked at him not exactly understanding what he had just said. Angus looked at her.
“You dumb dog, he said firmly, he said find a wolf! You know what that means!” Angus snapped at Kiraea. Even though Angus liked Kiraea, he lost his temper every time Kiraea didn’t understand what he was saying. They started to go on the path with Kiraea in lead.
Maybe I can lead them away from the wolves. Pycraft would call me dumb, but I have to! Angus and Jack don’t know my secret yet. They don’t know I have a wolf as a friend. She is in danger! What would happen? Kiraea thought hard. If she was going to lead them in a different direction, they would not go any where’s close a wolf or a wolf pack.
The pack woke early the next morning well rested. They were all ready for hunting. Aspen would have to come with them. She is too small to be leaved alone in their territory. Chinook was up and ready for any thing. But something was bothering her. Something in the air was different. She knew that hunters were in the forest at the time looking for animals. But something was different. About an hour later, the pack was starting to move around ever where getting their muscles warm.
They started out for the hill that separated the pack from the deeper part of the forest. Chinook was not in lead though. As the pack wondered up the hill, they realized that Chinook was not with them.
“What are you doing Chinook?” Wolfgang asked from a distance.
“I don’t know Wolfgang, something is weird. My senses are tingling, like something is coming.”
“Com’on Chin!” Whitelynx yelled.
Chinook looked at her pack and ran up to her rightful place in the front of the pack. They all started to run after Chinook ran down the hill. Something was bothering her. Every second that passed, a memory of her mother came into view in her mind. Chinook was running with her mother in a field. Then they were in the Darkness.
They were pictures in her mind of her mother lying there, on the grass dead. As a puppy, Chinook ran away and no longer did she find her self in the middle of the Darkness. And every time she turned around, there were three dogs after her.
Chinook focused on hunting again, but than a quick flash of the Darkness went through her mind. She halted and stared in fright. Chinook’s ears were flat against her head and her tail was tucked between her legs. The other wolves were in the same position.
“Know I know what was bothering me.” Chinook said with fear in her voice. Her heart was pounding so hard, you could hear it from a mile away.
Chinook managed out a whisper.
“The Darkness…”
There it was. The Darkness was right in front of them. Crawling up the forest toward them. Terrified, Chinook ran the opposite way. The others fallowed. In the distance, Chinook and the others heard the sound of a gun. And barking, of mad, hungry, killer dogs. Pycraft, Angus, Jack, Ash and Kiraea were heading toward them. Angus was barking with excitement. He had found them.
Chinook stood her ground. Her lips pulled back and teeth exposed. She started to snarl. Angus appeared over the hill. He too, was snarling.
“Chinook, behind you!” Liberty yelled.
Chinook looked back around her to see the Darkness swallowing her tail. Yapping with fear, she ran toward Angus. Jack, Ash and Kiraea ran down the hill attacking the other wolves. Right away, Wolfhound got Ash around the neck and killed him. He was not trained and had no idea what to do. Ash’s dead body was lying in the bushes. Kiraea ran up to him.
“Ash, Kiraea nudged his shoulder, no, no, no, no. You can’t die on me Ash!” Kiraea cried. Ashes body still lay there. Kiraea had tears streaming down her face.
“Ash!” She yelled while crying. She looked up to see the wolves and the dogs fighting each other. Her eyes turned red. The hatred in her was growing by the second. Lee was in an easy leap from Kiraea. Kiraea ran and jumped on Lee. Lee was frightened and didn’t know what to do. She grabbed the scruff of Kiraea’s neck and pulled as hard as she could. Kiraea, not paying attention, lifted up her paw and hit Lee extremely hard on her face.
Lee was whining with pain. Kiraea ignored it and bit down on Lee’s neck. Lee gave a loud scream of pain. Her head fell to the ground. Lee was dead. Kiraea looked down at her body and bit on her side. Blood emerged from the bite wound. Kiraea looked up and ran to fight other wolves.
Chinook was circling around Angus. Pycraft was lost in the woods. Angus was snarling at the alpha female.
“Dog, do you know who you are about to attack?” Chinook snapped at Angus.
“Yes, a stupid wolf.”
“Leash-licker, you are about to attack a free wolf!”
“It’s not you I’m after.” Angus looked over Chinook’s should and looked at Aspen, who was hiding behind a bush. Angus gave an evil smile at Chinook and ran to Aspen. He grabbed her by the scruff of her neck. Chinook was dodging every one. The spirit of hatred and evil was amongst the pack and the dogs. Angus was not taking a straight path. He was a hunting dog and he knew how to run. Angus went in a zigzagged pattern that Chinook found hard to fallow.
“Fool! You are a fool dog
