another wolf, but much smaller than Chinook.

“Umm, Chinook, whats that thing you have, that your body is curled around?” Lee asked suspiciously. Chinook looked up and growled as soon as she saw Lee.

“What is here is nothing of your business.” Chinook snarled at Lee. Lee thought that she was about to use the Sight, so she flattened her ears and tucked her tail between her legs.

“Com’on Chinook, I’m your best friend...” Lee whined.

“You are not my best friend! She yelled at Lee, a wolf named Tamaska is my best friend!” Lee got up and was about to say something, but she had a second thought and didn’t say anything. Instead, she was about to attack Chinook. Chinook saw what she was about to do. So she jumped to her feet and slammed into Lee sending her tumbling into the dirt and leaves. Chinook ran after her and bit her neck powerful enough to make her cry out. Chinook got up and helped her friend up.

“I’m sorry Chin; I get very nosy when things like this happen.”

Chinook nipped her muzzle and went back to where a small wolf was, a puppy to be exact. Lee gasped at the sight.

“Her name is Aspen. I found her when I went hunting alone. Her mother and father were shot by hunters.” Chinook said. A tiny wolf head looked up at Chinook and Lee. Aspen was a black wolf with a white strip that started from between the eyes to the tip of her nose. Like Chinooks’ strip.

The little wolf smiled at both of the wolves.

“H-hi Chinook.” She said in a squeaky voice.

Suddenly, a beautiful black wolf came out of the bushes with a dead rabbit.

“Wolfhound, Chinook said, thanks for getting meat for Aspen!”

“Your welcome Chinook, it’s the least I could do.” Wolfhound said with a smile. Wolfhound was one of the Beta females in the pack. The other beta female was named Liberty wolf.

“I’m coming Aspen!” said a distant voice. Right before Chinook could pick up Aspen, a young wolf came bursting out of the bushes laughing. It was Lobo, the youngest of the pack, but also one of the strongest. She went right over to Aspen and started to lick her. Soon the whole pack was around Aspen playing with her. Then from the bushes, emerged two wolves. Chinook knew them very well. It was Xwolf and her mate Better. They were the best pair in the whole forest!!

They too, had come to see the new cub. Chinook looked at the growing number in wolves and howled to someone. Everybody knew that when Chinook howled just because. It was for her mate, the alpha male of the pack. His name was Whitelynx. Even though he was a lynx, they still loved each other.

“Hey Chin, Better yelled, where’s Whitelynx?”

“I don’t know.” Chinook yelled back

Suddenly, a white lynx came out of the bushes. Chinook over joist and ran to him. Licking and nuzzling him.

“OK Chinook, he laughed, that’s enough!”

Chinook pulled back sheepishly. Whitelynx looked at her and smiled, they were always the greatest friend. When everyone was done playing with Aspen, Xwolf, Better and the rest of the visitors went back to where they belonged. The lynx looked at the wolf pup one more time and smiled at his mate.

“Good night Chinook.” Whitelynx said.

Chinook looked at her mate with passion in her eyes. He looked back a saw her. Xwolf and Better went back to their pack. The rest of the members of Whitelynx and Chinooks’ pack stayed at the site.

Wolfhound, Lobo, Lee and the rest of the pack went to the rendvouz site. Chinook gazed up at the sky, it was getting dark. She and the pack had to get back at a faster pace. The Darkness was going to come up soon. Chinook picked up the little she-wolf by the scruff of her neck.

“Chinook, why are afraid of the dark?” Aspen asked while trying to look at the alpha females face. Chinook stopped and put her down.

“Aspen, the Darkness is something you never want to go in…”

“Why?”

“Something is in the Darkness, that no body knows. It’s is something more powerful than almost anything.”

“What is in there Chinook?”

“Aspen… what is in the Darkness… is…”Chinook didn’t finish.

“What Chinook? What” Aspen asked with wide eyes.

A tear fell down Chinook’s face and on the ground. Aspen stared at the pile of leaves on the right side of her small body. Chinook took a breath with tears streaming down her eyes.

“You should know Aspen, Chinook took a deep breath, Death is in the Darkness. No one has ever went in, with out coming out. There is a beast in there, that won’t ever let you out.”

Aspen studied Chinooks facial expression and wondered if she wasn’t telling the whole story.

“You aren’t telling me something Chin.”

Chinook looked at Aspen and gave a tiny smile.

“You are smart, but your right. I’m not telling you everything. When I was younger, I went exploring at night time. I never knew where I was, so I howled to my mother. I had no idea that I was about to die. The Darkness came up behind me, and swallowed me whole. My mother jumped in after me and grabbed me by the scruff and threw me out before the Darkness could get me. I hit the ground. I thought my mother got out so I started to howl with happiness. But after a few minutes, I realized that my mother had not come out. I knew what happened. My mother had been swallowed by the Darkness.”

Chinook was crying harder than a rain storm on ants. Aspen was also crying, but much more less. She crawled up to Chinook and gave her a small hug. She smiled and picked her up.

That morning, Chinook woke up with a horrible head ache. She realized that the rendvouz site was burned! She panicked, but then realized that none of the pack was injured. Chinook ran up to the high-reaching hill and howled as loud as she could. As soon as the pack members heard the howl, they darted out as fast as lighting.

Even though the wolves were only blobs of color, Chinook could tell each wolf apart. There, in the front was Liberty wolf, in the very back was Wolfhound. In the middle, the rest were there, Kirada, a very strong wolf, Darkhusky, a very smart and innocent wolf. Kar, the wolf husky cross was on the left side of the big male Wolfgang. Tibb wolf was right behind the tiny wolf Lobo. Lee was running beside Tristan. The three wolves that always stayed with each other were Larka, Ayla, and Echo. They were the best of friends. Chetan and Miska were running in a straight line with another young male wolf named Wotan. There in the very back, was Orca and Vegeta.

Vegeta was the biggest wolf that was in the pack or even close to the territory. Whitelynx was already beside Chinook. The last wolf to come out was the scapegoat. His name was Bran. He was a fairly young wolf, but had a big attitude.

Chinook spilled out the terrible news.

“Midnight Pack, she yelled above everyone else’s voice, as you can see, are home has been burned! I’m not sure if it was the spirit Kamaru or it was the devil, humans!”

There was a minute of chatter and arguments. When everyone was done, they looked up at Chinook.

“We, the Midnight Pack members, are ready for anything” They all responded to their alpha female.

“We must move from this rendvouz site. Find a new place to call home!! Our lives here are at risk. Humans will come here and find us!” There was growling at the word ‘humans’.

“Did Chinook use the human word?” one wolf asked.

Chinook jumped down from where she was and headed in a different direction than the other. The wolf pack glanced at each other and ran after Chinook.

“Ahh, yes, I believe that’s the one I wanted sir.”

“Are you sure you can handle a dog like this one? He is very stubborn.”

“If he gets in the way…”

The man loaded his rifle and laid it against his leg.

“I’ll make sure it doesn’t turn into a bad habit.”

The man walked to his rusty old truck and opened the door with a horrible squeaking noise. He got in and grabbed his wallet. He grabbed 400$.

“Are you sure you can handle a dog like Ash?” The sales man told the other man. He turned around, it was Pycraft. Angus, Kiraea and Jack were in the truck.

“So Jack, maybe this dog will be your friend… or he can be my friend, and leave you alone.” Angus started to laugh.

“Angus, this new dog is a male. I told you that so many times. His name is Ash. He is a malamute, and he would never want to hunt a wolf.”

“Are you serious?!?” Jack and Angus yelled.

“He doesn’t like to hunt wolves? Why is he coming then?” Jack said.

“Yeah, hunting is our lives! How could he hate hunting wolves?” Angus told Kiraea.

Kiraea frowned and gave a small growl. She turned away and a small tear fell from her face on to the floor of the truck.

“I think it is time that I told you guys something. I hate to hunt too. I never like to see you guys chasing the wolf and grabbing it by the tail a pulling so hard that the wolf it self falls down. When you, Angus, crawl on to their body, biting every part of their body, till it bleeds to death. You let them suffer before you kill them. When they cry out for forgiveness, and to their pack so they know that they are about to die, it’s impossible to watch. I can’t stand to see them like that.” Kiraea started to cry.

“And you Jack… you
