Through the eyes of Death

Through the eyes of the Darkness

Terrified, Chinook ran through the forest with Lee at her side.

“What do you think you were doing?” Chinook growled at Lee.

“Well, Lee said calmly, it’s not my fault we ran into a bear cave.”

Chinook and Lee walked the rest of the way to the pack. On their way to the rendvouz site, Chinook and Lee talked, but suddenly stopped when they heard a snap in the bushes.

“Chinook, what was that?” Lee asked while backing up.

“I don’t know” Chinook growled.

Suddenly, a small squirrel came out of the bushes with an acorn in its mouth. Chinook and Lee both looked at each other and laughed.

“You should have seen your face Lee!” Chinook laughed.

“Hey, I wasn’t the one the one who growled!” Lee laughed back.

Chinook was on her back laughing her head off. Lee growled and pounced on Chinook, but she was still laughing. Lee nipped Chinook’s neck and then rolled on her back exposing her stomach. Her paws were limp and she was giving off a gentle whine.

Chinook got up and gave a shake free of all dirt and leaves caught in her fur. She went over to Lee and gave her a nip on the muzzle.

“Com’on Lee, my pack will get worried about us.”

Lee got up and gave her tail a few wags. Chinook smiled and started to trot. Lee loped after her.

After a silent moment, Lee lifted up her head to gaze at the setting sun. Chinook saw her and she to had lifted her head to gaze up at the sunset.

“Beautiful, isn’t it.” Chinook whispered.

“Yeah, I wish Lane could see this.” Lee said.

Chinook looked over to her depressed friend. She turned her head around so she could see what’s behind her. All Chinook could see was the Darkness of the night creeping up behind the two she-wolfs. Chinook looked back in front and she saw Lee walking away. Chinook took a breath and lifted her gorgeous head shaping her mouth into an almost perfect circle and howled. The howl was part moan, part cry of triumph. It was low at first and then it turned into a single clear note.

Lee shivered at the sound of the howl. She looked back to only see Chinook passing her in a trot.

“Com’on Lee, we better get going”.

Lee trotted over to her and they loped down the beat earth path.

After a few minutes, the two got to the rendvouz site. As soon as the pack saw the alpha female, they gave howls, yaps, whines and they also gave a little bow. Lee ran over to Tristan, a big male grey wolf, and nuzzled him.

Tristan gazed at Lee with passion and smiled. Chinook never could figure out why Lee left her old mate, Lane.

That night, Chinook had a dream. She was running in an open meadow with nothing in sight, just the she-wolfs shadow. Chinook was being chased. Sometimes it was her long lost mother. Other times it was the Darkness of the night in the woods. The wolf pack called it death, which if you went into the Darkness you would never come out alive. When she turned around to see if the pursuer had changed, but she all ways ended up falling of a cliff and into the Darkness. She saw the whole pack, dead, on the rocks below her.

Chinook woke with a jolt of energy. She was panting hard from her dream. Chinook’s stomach was aching from hunger. The pack had not eating in 2 weeks. She got up and used her hearing to find an easy snack.

Chinook had found a small rabbit. She crouched low on the soft grass. Over head she could hear the hooting of an elderly owl. When she was in a short distance of the rabbit, she got up and ran after it.

Com’on, just a little faster Chinook thought. She was on the small fluffy tail of the fleeing rabbit. She pounced on the rabbit, but just before killing it, she saw through its eyes. Terrified at the sight she had just seen, she back away faster than a bird could get a flying start. Chinook went up and sat down with her dead rabbit.

“The Sight… what happened?” Chinook asked her self in the dark.

“Come on… our master wants us to get ready for the hunt! Let’s go!!” yelled the Irish wolfhound with an Irish accent.

“Hey, I’m not the one who always makes the fuss about getting ready. Besides, we’re going after a bunch of stupid wolves. What can they do to us?” the other wolfhound said. The two males snarled at each other. Just before the grey wolfhound leaped, the younger male jumped on him pulling his ear. The big male swung him off.

“The master only DID want one male… a strong male, an older male.” The big male bragged. The small wolfhound stopped and got some tears in his eyes. But they quickly faded when he started to growl.

“Would you knock if of?!?” a small grey female came out from behind the mirror. The big male halted growling and he gave her a smile. As soon as she saw him, she gave a low growl.

“Hey, he said in a surprised voice, I’m your male Kiraea.” Angus said with his accent.

Kiraea glared at him

“Angus, do you know how much I hate it when you talk that way to me?” Kiraea reminded him. Angus gazed at Kiraea and smirked in a way that told her that he liked her. Kiraea looked at the smallest of the three. He rolled his eyes

“Boy am I glad I’m too young for that kinda stuff.” He told the two.

“Ohh, Jack honey you poor thing.” Kiraea walked up to Jack.

He looked at her confused.

“Why am I poor Kiraea?” Jack asked. He went to the door and scratched it. The three heard mumbling from the other side of the door. Their owner came in and picked Jack up.

“Ohh, my poor baby!” the man cooed. The sound sickened Angus and Kiraea. The fat man looked down at the other two dogs.

“You two ready?” he asked. The two dogs gave a bark saying ‘yes’.

“Kiraea?” Jack asked.

“What?”

“Pycrafts’ hands are all gooey and nasty. Can you tell him to put me down?” Kiraea gave a bark to Pycraft to put Jack down. He waved a gun in front of Anguses nose.

“Hunting time boys, Pycraft yelled, let’s go find some wolves!”

Sniffing around, Echo, one of the youngest members in the pack, was on some sort of trail.

“Chinook, she yelled, over here!”

“What? Did you find something?”

Echo placed her nose on the ground and sniffed.

“Sniff here Chin.”

Chinook went to where Echo was and Chinook placed her nose to the ground and sniffed.

“Blood, she said, but who’s?”

Echo looked at her friend with worried eyes. Chinook gazed at Echo and gave a whine to tell her everything was alright. But Echo saw that Chinook was worried, and frightened.

“Whose blood do you think it is Chin?”

Chinook nodded her head.

“A wolf, that’s for sure.” Chinook said.

Echo gasped and looked at the alpha female with a frightened spirit.

“Do you think…” she didn’t finish

“I doubt it.” Chinook said firmly.

Echo gave a sigh of relief. But when she turned around to go back, she realized that the she-wolf was not by her side.

“Is something wrong Chinook?” Echo asked. Chinook gave a low growl.

“This is the blood of a rival wolf. And he’s in our territory! And…” Chinook stopped. She sniffed this one place where there was a snapped twig. She looked around then back to the twig was. Chinook curled her lips back to expose her teeth. She growled with loathing. She gazed at Echo and looked back.

“Humans,” Chinook snarled.

Angus, Kiraea and Jack got into Pycrafts’ truck and headed out for the forest. They had two guns ready for the hunt.

“We’re going to get some wolves today boys, Pycraft told the dogs, aren’t we Angus. You’re my best male!” He told Angus. Angus smirked at Jack.

“See Jack, I’m his best male!! You’re his worst male!!” he laughed in Jacks face. Kiraea looked at Jack. He had small tears streaming from his eyes, falling onto the floor of the truck. Angus continued to laugh. Kiraea growled at Angus and bit his neck. Angus yipped at the surprise attack.

“What do you think your doing Kiraea? I’m your best male too!!” Angus bayed. Jack stopped crying and glanced at Kiraea who was snarling at Angus.

“Hey, Pycraft yelled, what’s going on back there?” Angus started to whine and crawled into his lap.

“You mutt, get off!!” He looked at Anguses sad eyes.

“Awww, I’m sorry boy. I didn’t mean to make you feel bad.” Pycraft gave a loving smile too his best male.

Kiraea looked at Angus disgusted. She hugged Jack and gave him a bone that was in the truck. Suddenly, the truck halted sending Angus flying to only hit the wind shield. Jack and Kiraea started to giggle, but then the giggles turned in to a big laugh. Angus fell back into the front seat. Kiraea couldn’t help her self. She fell off the back seat on to the floor laughing. Jack was laughing also. Angus, feeling terribly embarrassed, got up and sat up right on the seat.

Chinook was lying in the leaves having a nap. Her eyes were shut, body curled into a tight ball and her tail covering her nose. Lee came out of the bushes. And when she past Chinook, she realized that there was there was something that Chinook was covering with her body. It looked like another wolf, but much
