Aleutian looked up at him. Dart licked her on the muzzle.

“Dart, come home before mom figures out that you’ve been out too long!” Jack yelled. His voice echoed in the town.

Dart looked at Aleutian.

“Sorry, I have to go. Maybe I can show you that place later.”

Aleutian gazed at him and ran off the hill toward the place she slept at. Dart ran toward home. Jack was so kind to call him so he wouldn’t get yelled at. Jack had open arms when Dart got to the door. Dart and Jack walked into the family room where Jack’s parents were watching television.

“Young man, you better go to sleep. And I have to go get Dart again.” Jack’s mom told him.

“No need mom, I got him a while ago.” Jack told his mom.

“Ohh, alright. Go brush your teeth and wash your face.”

“Can I stay up late today mom? Please?” Jack begged.

“Fine, but only till 10 o’clock. Got it?”

“Yeah.” Jack ran down stairs to get changed. Dart followed hoping to get a treat. Jack was in his underwear getting his pajama pants on. Dart couldn’t under stand how people could sleep in those clothes. Wouldn’t it be itchy? Dart went up to Jack to examine his pants. Yes! He thought. They were the pants that Dart liked to pull down.

“Why are you looking at my pants Dart? Are they interesting?” Jack asked

No their not interesting to look at, but they are interesting to pull down in public. Dart thought to him self.

Jack went up stairs to get his teeth done and his face. Dart followed close behind waiting for the best moment. But then Dart remembered something. The humans forgot to get the mail in the morning. Dart ran into the family room grabbing an open envelop. He gave it to the female human.

“Ohh yes, we forgot to get the mail. I’ll go and get it.”

Dart dropped his mouth. His plan wouldn’t work if his mom did it for him.

“Wait honey, that’s Jack’s job. Dart please go get him.” The male human told Dart.

Dart ran into the bathroom and pulled on Jack’s arm sleeve.

“What boy?” he asked.

Dart ran out and came back with the envelop.

“Ohh dang. Thanks for reminding me Dart.” Jack ran out of the bathroom and he got into some shoes. Dart thought there was snow on the ground. When Jack opened the door, Dart saw that there was no snow. Not any more. He ran to the mail box and opened it. Dart knew this was the perfect time. But something caught his eye.

Hello, Jack’s crush at 10 o’clock. Pull down pants in 10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1… NOW! Dart thought

Dart grabbed his pants and yanked them down. Sidney, Jack’s crush was staring right at him. Jack was as pink as a fully blossomed rose. Dart was laughing his head off.

“You stupid dog!” Jack laughed.

“Jack, are you okay?” Sidney asked.

“Yeah I’m fine.”

“I love your dog! Do you think I can maybe come over sometime and see him and you?” she asked.

“Uhh, well, umm, well, I uhh…” Jack stumbled.

“Are you coming in the house or sleeping out there Jack?” his dad laughed. Jack had his eyes fixed on Sidney who was now walking away. Dart pulled on his sleeve and he ran in the house. Jack laughed and went after him.

 

Jack got into his bed and pulled the covers over him.

“You know what Dart? You’re the best dog in the world, he shut off the light in his room and turned on the lava lamp, you’re the best, and Aleutian.” Jack whispered. At the sound of her name, Dart got up and started barking.

“Boy, you must really like her, Jack laughed, good night boy.”

Dart got up one last time and jumped on Jack’s bed. Dart has never had a better life. Jack lifted his arm and laid it on Dart’s back. They both fell asleep and had great dreams.

Dart was dreaming of his mate Aleutian. To him, Aleutian was the most beautiful animal in the world. In his dream, the two were running in a field with many flowers of different colors. Dart was running right beside her. Dart was in love with her. Right when the two were about to touch noses, Jack woke Dart up.

What do you want? Dart thought to him self. Dart got off Jack’s bed and stretched. Dart went up stair to greet his family.

“What are you doing up so early?” the female human asked him.

“Mom… remember?” Jack asked his mom.

“Ohh, yes I do remember.” She got up and went into her room. She came back with a small box in her hands. Dart started barking and jumping.

“Yes, yes. I have something for you.”

Dart was so happy, he was getting something for doing something bad.

“And don’t get your head into that every time you do something bad, you get some type of toy.” Jack told him.

“Now, remind me again why we got him something for doing a bad thing?” the male human asked his family.

“We’re not giving it to him because he did something bad, it’s because he’s the best dog in the world!” Jack kneeled down and hugged Dart. Confused, Dart wagged his tail.

Jack got up and pulled out a big squeaky toy bone. Dart pulled it out of his hands and ran down stairs. Dart started to chew on it. Jack suddenly came down the stairs. Dart knew that he would want to play too. Dart ran in the boiler room to his little secret area.

“Dart, where are you? I want to play with you.” Jack called to his dog.

Dart refused to move.

“Mom, have you seen Dart?”

“I think he just went out side.” His mom answered from up the stairs.

“Okay, I’ll go find him. Anyway it’s time for his walk.”

Dart heard every thing that they said.

Ha-ha, I’m not going for my walk today. I have special plans for today. Dart thought to him self. He lay down on the carpet and began to chew.

A few minutes passed, Dart was having a nap in his secret spot behind the hot water tank on a small carpet that could only hold up to two dogs. Some scratches were coming from the back door. Dart went up to it and sniffed. Who ever it was, knew that the humans were up stairs.

“Who is it?” Dart barked.

“It’s me, Aleutian. Let me in, I’m freezing out here.”

“Go to the boiler room.”

“How do I know where it is?”

“Follow the drain pipe. It should lead you to the boiler room. I made a door that leads in to it. Scratch on there and I will let you in.”

“Okay.” Aleutian followed the pipe and she ended up at a small door. Aleutian lifted up her paw and scratched. It opened. Dart poked his head out of the door.

“Boy, there’s snow on the ground! What to go out and play for a while?” Dart bark excitedly.

Aleutian was shivering.

“Let me warm up first.” Aleutian told Dart.

Dart let her in the small door. Aleutian was shivering more than she was out side in the snow.

“Here, Dart old her, put your back against the hot water tank. It will thaw you fur.”

Aleutian looked down at her fur. There was, indeed, ice cycles on her fur. They all melted away as soon as she put her back on the hot water tank.

“Wow, how cozy. This is the first time I’ve been in your house.” Aleutian looked around to see what she could see.

“I know. How did you know to come in through the back door? How did you know that my humans were up in their gathering room?” Dart asked

“Well, the smell of bacon and eggs was in the air, and I know you don’t eat that stuff…”

Dart blushed.

“That’s right… I don’t.”

Aleutian looked at Dart.

“Bacon and eggs? Eww!”

“Only when Jack doesn’t feed me…”

“Anyway, I thought you never ate that stuff, so I smelled around and I found your scent in front of the back door. Were are we any way?” Aleutian finished.

“In the basement. My owner Jack sleeps over in that small room. Right now, we’re in my secret place in the boiler room. I have an extra food and water dish here if you are thirsty or hungry.”

Aleutian drank some water and ate a small amount of dog food. The two lay down beside each other and talked for a while before Aleutian remembered to say something.

“Ohh, when I started for your house, Jack walked by. He seemed very upset.” Aleutian explained.

“Probably because I hid, when he gave me this new squeaky chew toy. His mom wanted him to take me for a walk.”

Aleutian cocked her head not understanding what her mate had just said.

“Why didn’t you want to go for a walk? Jack asked me where you were. And if I wanted to help find you.”

“How does Jack know about you?”

“I think it’s pretty obvious, almost ever time he calls for you, and you’re with me.”

Dart gazed at his mate not hearing what she had just said. Aleutian poked him with her nose. Dart shook his head. When he looked down at Aleutian, she was asleep. Dart closed the boiler room door and laid down beside her and fell asleep.

 

 

“Mom, Jack whispered, take a look at this. Dart has a girlfriend. I know her.”

“What’s her name Jack?”

“Her name is Aleutian. She’s a stray from around town. She is also part wolf like
