Undying Love
Aleutian was pacing back and forth wondering where Dart was. Aleutian was a German shepherd cross wolf. She looked like an ordinary German shepherd, but had a wolf character. Dart was a wolf cross husky. Aleutian gave him a bandana that had orange and yellow leaves and many types of pine needles. Behind the leaves was the color of fall, dark red. Dart also had a black collar with a gold tag that his owner gave him for his first birthday. Aleutian was a stray that lived mostly behind houses.
Where has he got to? I told him to meet me at Bark Hill. Aleutian thought. Wait, I am at Party Hill… oops! She ran down the hill to find Bark Hill. All dogs called it that because most dogs went up it and barked their heads off.
“Where is she? Aleutian told me to meet her at Bark hill.” Dart told himself. Just then, Aleutian came running up the hill and jumping, almost landing on Dart.
“Gee, where were you all this time?” Dart demanded.
“Sorry, I was at the wrong place.” Aleutian explained.
The pair started walking toward town in Colorado. Dart was talking about his family. Aleutian almost fell down when he said the he was going in for training.
“You’re doing what?” she asked.
“Weren’t you listening? I’m going in for training.” Dart told her. Aleutian could not believe her ears. Then she thought of doing something that Dart found funny. Aleutian jumped in front of him and she put her paw under his tag on his collar. She hit it sending it flying around his collar.
“Hey!” Dart laughed.
Aleutian glanced at him with passion. Dart knew that they were inseparable. Dart nuzzled her and ran off. Aleutian zoomed after him. Just as she caught up to him, she jumped on him sending him tumbling down the hill. Dart was almost ready to get her back when Dart’s owner called him.
“Dart! Dart get over here! You know better then to run off with out telling us first.”
“Ohh, sorry, but I have to go.” Dart gazed back and ran off with Aleutian watching him go.
As Aleutian walked around town looking for food, she found one of her friends walking toward the boiler room.
“Hey Daisy, what are doing?” Daisy looked surprised when she saw Aleutian.
“Umm, I’m going to Darts place.”
“Why are you going there?”
“Well, he said he needs to show me something.”
“Can I come?”
“I don’t think so. But you should ask him.”
Aleutian trotted toward the street that Dart lived in. Once she got there, Aleutian walked to the back to only find a few chew sticks that Dart’s owners bought him. Aleutian stepped over them with care and she got to the back door. Aleutian scratched on it. From the bottom, a head pocked out from the dog door. It was Dart.
“What are you doing here?” Dart asked
“Daisy told me that you have something to show her. What do you want to show her?” Aleutian told him.
“Ohh, just a toy that I got a few days ago. The one you have seen before.” Dart went back into his house.
Aleutian was walking toward the boiler room when the door swung open. A human walked out with a puppy in his hand. Aleutian knew who the man was and the puppy. The pups name was Squirm. The man was his owner/vet.
“Hey, get out of here you stupid dog!” The man yelled at Aleutian. She stood her ground and growled at him. The man walked away with the pup. Daisy came out from the boiler room and saw Aleutian.
“Ohh, thank goodness you’re here Aleutian!” Daisy told her.
“Why?”
“Dart wanted to talk to you. He said it was urgent. You should go now.” Daisy explained.
With out saying a word to Daisy, Aleutian started off. Then she halted to still see Daisy standing there.
“Where am I supposed to go Daisy?” Aleutian yelled
“At the top of Bark hill.” Daisy yelled back.
Once again Aleutian started to run. Minutes later, she got to Bark hill, but didn’t see Dart. She walked along the side to see if there was anything. Then, a voice came from behind her. The voice startled her. Aleutian swung around growling. Then she stopped to see that is was her mate. It was Dart with something in his mouth.
“What’s in your mouth Dart? It looks like meat or something like that.”
“Meat, but it’s in a package.” He swung it so Aleutian could grab the other side.
“Okay, now pull!” The two pulled hard on both sides. The package’s side ripped to reveal meat. The two cross breeds ate their fill and watched the sunset.
“Ohh, it’s so beautiful!” Aleutian whispered trying not to break the silence. Farther away from where the sun was setting, it was a dark blue and closer was orange, yellow, pink and other colors. As soon as the sun was gone and the moon was out, the northern lights shone on the couple.
“Look at the northern light, then sorta squint. They look really cool!” Dart told Aleutian.
Aleutian did as she was told.
“Ohh, wow. It so beautiful!” Aleutian whispered.
Dart was gazing at Aleutian.
“Yeah, beautiful.” Dart said dreamily.
Aleutian gazed at Dart, who gazed back.
Dart and Aleutian walked home. Dart was still looked in at the sky. Aleutian walked behind an old raggedy house. Dart felt sorry for her. She had no home to go to when it was cold or boiling hot. Dart went into his own home with his owners.
Aleutian should find a home. She sleeps on an old mattress with springs that poke out. She needs to find a real home. Dart thought to him self. He slipped into the front door. As soon as he got in to the family room, the light came on with a flash. The brightness hurt his eyes. Of course, Dart’s humans were at the door, standing with heavy frowns. Dart hung his head and walked up to them.
“What on earth were you doing so late in the night?” They yelled.
His owner grabbed him by the collar and pulled him into the basement. There was almost no light. Except the lava lamp that glowed in the room of Jack, the youngest of the family. Dart went into his room and jumped on his bed.
“Dart, is that you?” Jack asked in the dark.
Dart pushed his wet nose in the boy’s face.
“Good dog.” Jack said as he fell back asleep.
Dart couldn’t stop thinking about Aleutian. What would she say if he asked her to be mates? Would she reject? What would happen if he asked her to come in his house for a while? The thinking hurt his head so he stopped.
The next morning, Dart woke up to see Jack staring down at him. What do you want? I’m tired don’t stare at me. Dart thought. He got up and walked up the stairs and into the kitchen. The humans looked down at him.
“You better not be going any where again Dart. You could have been killed.” The female human told him.
I couldn’t have been killed. I’m a dog cross wolf. What do you think I am? A caterpillar? Dart thought. He went to the front door. Dart jumped out the doggy door. He went to were Aleutian slept.
“Aleutian? Are you in there?” Dart whispered.
There was no response. Dart walked behind the house. Aleutian was not there. He crawled out.
“Where could my mate be?” Dart asked him self.
Aleutian was crying hard. In the back of a dog catcher’s truck, she wept. Other dogs were in the truck.
“Why are you crying?” one dog asked.
“I’m a wolf! I shouldn’t be in a truck!”
“You look more like a German shepherd.” Another told her.
“I’m a wolf cross German shepherd.” Aleutian confessed.
The truck stopped. The man got out. He was saying words that Aleutian didn’t understand. The truck had a flat tire.
A dog crept up behind the truck and poked his head in the wire.
“Dart, is that you?” Aleutian asked
“Yeah, it’s me. How did you get in here?”
“Long story, don’t ask.”
“To make a long story short…”
“Never mind.” Aleutian growled
Dart stuck his nose under the stick like thing that held the door closed. Aleutian and the other dogs got out.
The two trotted down the path. Dart was gazing at Aleutian.
“What?” Aleutian asked him.
“Nothing…” Dart told her.
Dart jumped in front of her waging his tail and he was in his play position. Aleutian confused walked passed him. Dart watched her pass by. Dart jumped on her back making her jump. Dart jumped off and got into his play position again. Aleutian got into hers. The two ran up a hill and rolled down laughing. It was almost sunset when Dart got up and pulled on Aleutians tail.
“What do you want? We were having fun.” Aleutian got up and licked Dart.
“I want to take you to a place where you haven’t been yet.” Dart explained.
Aleutian laid down and rolled on her back. Dart rolled his eyes and laid down beside her.
“We’ll go in a while.” Dart pushed his nose into the flaps of skin on her neck.
They looked up at the pink clouds that passed over head. Aleutian sat up. Dart got up also. Aleutian gazed at him and rested her head on his shoulder. Dart knew that they were meant for each other. Dart rested his head on Aleutians. Aleutian looked up at him.
