Night had come way to fast, as Cassy ran through the woods. She had meant to just walk in and out, but the woods were bigger than she had thought, and there were no noticeable landmarks. Cassy lifted her nose, and tried to sniff the air to see if anything familiar was nearby, but all she smelled was pine and oak. She began walking again, hopelessly in circles.

      As she once agian came to another large circle of trees, she smelled something different, but it wasn't the familar smell of the town or of the waving trees over head, this was a smell of danger. Cassy looked worriedly around, but she didn't see a thing, then from behind her she heard a deep voice.

 "Well, well, well, look ahere boys, looks like somone's lost, maybe we should help her find her way around" The voice joined in with others and laughed

 "You better back off" Cassy said sharply

 "O, and shes fiesty, well that just how I like em' "  A wolf said stepping from the shadows.

 Cassy was surrounded by wolfves, all taunting her a ready to pounce when the order was given.

 "I told you to get away from me" Cassy snarled again, her gray fur beginnig to stand on her neck.

 "Or, what, you'll bite me" The lead wolf laughed again.

 "No, but I will"  another voice said.

    All eyes went to the corner of the woods where a different wolf had stepped out into the moonlight. He apparntly did'nt belong with the others, but he came to the center of the circle and stood between Cassy and the wolf.

 "This has nothing to do with you, boy" The wolf snapped

 "It has everything to do with me, you want her you have to come through me first"  He protested surely

 "Then I'm afraid this will all have to be ended right here" The wolf said

  "Give me your best shot" He smiled

 "Boys, attack" The wolf odered his dogs, as he backed off away from the circle, leaving, Cassy and the other wolf in the middle.

  "Stay behind me" The wolf turned and odered to Cassy

  For a moment it was all silent, then the wolfves sprung. The stranger fought them off, and Cassy stayed behind him as he had odered. The stranger was fighting off two wolfves when a third came rushing towards him. Cassy ducked and grabbed the wolf by the neck, biting with all her might, and the wolf went yelping back. Soon the stranger had all the wolfves aroung him lying on the ground, and not intending to stand agian. The stranger looked at the lead wolf.

  "Now, I believe you heard the lady, back off" he said in a warning growl, "Unless you wish to fight" He said as if it were a invatation.

   "Get up" The wolf demanded to the others " it's not over, lets go" the wolf walked off followed by the others, and the stranger didn't turn his back till they were gone.

  "Are you ok?" The stranger asked

  "Ah, yea, I'm fine" Cassy said wathcing the stranger closely

  "No, your not, your bleeding" He said looking down at her leg. Cassy hadn't even relized she had a gash on her front leg till he had said so.

   "Here, I know of a place where you can rest it's not far" The wolf said but he could tell Cassy was still hesitent. "It's too late to go to the town now,but you will be safe where I take you, I promise" The stranger smiled.

    Cassy gave in and he allowed her to lean on him as he lead her to a cave that was only a little while away, when they got there, the stranger made her very comfortable, and he even licked her wound.

   "I never said thankyou" Cassy said "For saving me, I mean"

 "No, problem" The stranger smiled

 "You fought well" Cassy said trying to be friendly

  "Well you gave those wolfves a scare too, I've never met a dog who would talk to a wolf that way" He said 

  "I'm Cassy" she introduced herslef

  "O, SunDance" the wolf said

  "Well nice to meet you" Cassy smiled

  "If it's no trouble can I ask what were you doing out so late by yourslef?" SunDance asked

  "I don't know, I got lost" Cassy explained "I could'nt smell anything but trees and then those wolfves showed up"

  "You mean you couldn't smell the town from here?" SunDance asked suprisedly 

 "No, why can you?" Cassy asked quickly

  "Of course" SunDance smiled "I can smell the town nearby, and I can smell the ocean water, and hear the deer playing in the fields" SunDance said, he had Cassy entraced for a moment, with the whisper that he spoke of the beauty of things.

 "You can't really do all that, right?" Cassy asked very un-sure

  "Ah, but I can, maybe I can teach you some time" SunDance smiled 

  "Maybe" Cassy smiled back then yawned, they day had made her very tired

   "Yea, but, you should probably get some sleep" SunDance said as he got to his feet  and walked to the edge of the cave.

  "Good night" Cassy said as the wolf looked back and gave her a smile.

   Cassy lay her head down and slpet peacefully, for the first time in awhile. Morning came quickly and as soon as the sun was over the mountains both SunDance and Cassy were wide awake.

 "So, will we be going back to the town" Cassy asked wonderingly

  "We could, if you thought you could make it, but your leg is still swollen, it would'nt hurt to wait, if that whats you wanted"

   Cassy looked at he leg, then back at SunDance.

  "Well, a little while longer couldn't hurt" She finallly said "It's not like I have someone waiting back home"

 "Aw, comon, a beautiful dog like you, has no one back home" SunDance asked

  Cassy smiled faintly, and littly shyly and said "Nope,only a little cabin and a warm spot by a fire" Cassy said aimlessly

 "Can you walk?" SunDance asked 

  "Yea, I think so, why?" Cassy said with anticipation

 "Then comon" SunDance said happily jumping up

  "What now" Cassy laughed

  "Now, we begin your trainig" He smiled

  "My what" Cassy limped carfully out the cave, with SunDance helping her.

  "Just wait and see" SunDance smiled

    That week was one neither of the dogs forgot. SunDance taught Cassy how to smell beyond the woods, how to feel the ocean when miles away, and how to feel the world around with her eyes closed.

 "Now, stand here" SunDance said guidingly

 "Alright" Cassy obliged

  "Now, close your eyes, go on close em' " SunDance laughed as Cassy smiled and closed her blue eyes

 "Ok, now concentrate, let everything around you fade away, only listen, relax, what do you feel?" SunDance asked

 "The wind, the trees, the squirels playing, the lake, comingly slowly along, the eagle flying over us, SunDance" Cassy said opening her eyes "It's all so beautiful" She smiled

  "Yes" SunDance said as he got closer to Cassy he allowed his nose to touch hers, Cassy didn't move, and SunDacne backed away, but Cassy came close to him again and nuzzled him. He smiled and Nuzzled her back. That night, SunDance found them some food and they ate on the cliff just outside the cave. From where they were, it seemed you could touch the stars.

  "SunDance" Cassy said, as she laid her head down so he could lay close to her.

 "Hm" He said

  "I'm real glad I met you" She smiled

  "Me too" He smiled

  "But we both know, I still have to go back" She began

  "No, you don't" SunDance began

  "SunDance" Cassy said

  "Cassy, I know everything about you, and you still no so little of me, and you have been so kind as to not ask, but now I should tell you everything, first I have never met anyone like you, and I love you Cassy" He smiled "Second they day I met you, I was on my way back to my pack, my father is the leader, and I'am next in line to be the alpha, you could come with me" Sundance begged

  "SunDance, what if I'm not excepted,, no one will like that I am a husky" Cassy said "I'm ot worried or afraid for me, I'm worried what will happen to you."

   "Don't worry, just say you will come with me" SunDance said nuzzling Cassy

   "SunDance I love you, the first time I met you, you stole my heart, and it will never belong to anyone else but you, and I will follow you to the ends of the earth, as long as we both shall live"

        SunDance and Cassy smiled and as they looked to the sky for one moment, a shooting star passed.

 "Our lucky star" SunDance smiled

 "Make a wish" Cassy said, her blue eyes were glittering

 SunDance thought for a moment then said "Well, I have nothing more to wish for, because I have everything I ever wanted" He said, Cassy touched his nose, and the two fell asleep. The next day they began the journey to the pack, a journey that would test thier love and give them a choice wether to part forever or fight till the end.
