Dogknapped Part 2 The Distance

By Baltofriend Werewolf

Opening; Jenna awoke to find herself staring at the dog for whom she shared that space of the train with, she missed Balto terribly and wondered if she was ever going to see him again. She turned and looked at the golden retriever that she had come to befriend she thought to herself “I wonder where we are going.” The golden retriever stirred and stretched he looked at her and said “good morning” she replied “good morning” she turned from him and looked through the slat in the door of the train car and what she saw took her breathe away.

She saw a vast blue lake that stretched for miles and could see the sun reflect off of the water making the water look like diamonds she also saw a large land mass heavily covered in green forest as far as the eye can see. She looks at the golden retriever and says “check out the view” the golden retriever looks threw the slats of the door and stands there for a few seconds taking the view in he turns to Jenna and says “it is beautiful” Jenna looks at him and then looks back out threw the slats watching the landscape roll by.

Balto and Kodi looked around all night for Jenna, when they went to Rosies house they found a pool of dried blood and could see where Jenna had been dragged through the front door and the trail of blood disappeared in the hard packed snow. Balto returned home and his heart filled with emotion he cried what to him seemed the better part of an hour before he stopped and thought “no I must be strong and be hopeful that I will find Jenna soon.” Balto got up and walked over to the bow of the boat and looked out over the town of Nome and could see the lights of the town shining over the snow and thought “where are you Jenna.”

All of a sudden Jenna felt the train jerk to a stop then the doors of the train car ripped open to reveal this man who had a heavily scarred face smoking a cigar with clothes were all rumpled and discolored. Jenna noticed on his belt he had a knife and pistol she looked into his eyes and saw that he had a fierce look in his eye. The man spoke saying “get these damn flea bags loaded up’ all of a sudden two men carrying guns jumped into the train car and started to kick and swear and the dogs to try to get them to move out of the train and into big trucks. Jenna was kicked in the side by one of the men’s foot she growled and bit him in the leg the man screamed in pain but manage to club Jenna over the head and she fell to the floor of the train. Just as the man was about to finish her off the heavily scarred man got into the train car and said “no roughing up the dogs you lug headed idiot” the man replied “sorry boss’ Jenna stood up and walked out of the train and saw a sign saying “welcome to St.Albans Vermont” she thought “well I am as far from Balto and physically possible this is bad” Jenna was herded into one of the trucks and could feel the truck come to life beneath her feet, she turned around and saw the train disappear in a cloud of smoke. Jenna and the other dogs in the truck headed up threw the dirt streets of St.Albans until they came to a entrance at the base of the hill, the trucks stopped and the back of the truck opened and there stood the men with the guns hurrying the dogs out she noticed one of the dogs was running from the group desperately trying to escape one of the men raised his gun and fired the dog fell to the ground lifeless. The shot echoed threw the forested woods that surrounded the entrance, many of the dogs cowered and refused to move many of them were shot outright because they refused to move. But little by little the dogs moved out of the trucks and were lead to the entrance which was really nothing but a pathway that lead into the trees, Jenna looked around at the trees as she passed seeing nothing but giant rocks and trees as she passed then they came to a wall made out of wood a foul stench was being emitted threw so of the cracks between the boards. The doors opened and the dogs were lead into a area surrounded by wire link fences and on the other side of the fences were many dogs that were very skeletal looking Jenna thought “how awful” the gates behind her slammed shut.

Balto looked around as he made his way into Nome he saw Kodi sitting on one of the street corners and Balto walked up to him, Kodi saw his father and says “hi dad” Balto stopped before his son and replied “any news of your mother” Kodi replied “no sorry dad” Baltos ears drooped just then a black and white husky skidded to a halt infront of Balto and Kodi. Balto looked at this new comer and said “who are you” Kodi replied “dad this is lyon he is helping us search for mom” the black and white husky named lyon bowed his head and said “pleasure to meet you Balto” Balto stood there and says “how do you know me” Lyon replied “everyone in Nome knows the famous Balto who saved Nome from certain death” Balto replies “oh I see” Kodi interrupted his before he could finish by saying “what news do you have for us Lyon” Lyon looked from Kodi then at Balto saying “one of the dogs from around here say Jenna beginning dragged out of her home by two humans with black hoods over their heads.”

Baltos heart skipped a beat and he replies “where did they take off to” Lyon replies “the dog said he saw the humans get into a automobile and take off towards Nenna and he supposes that since they were going to Nenna they would being going there to the trains” Balto heard a human behind them come out of a store saying “yeah me and the misses are going to Nenna to visit some of our relatives” Balto walked away from Kodi and Lyon and walked over to the car, Lyon and Kodi followed him and Kodi says “dad what are you doing” Balto replies back “I am going to stow away with the humans and go to Nenna to find where Jenna was taken to’ he looked into his sons eyes and could see worry flicker in them he says “Kodi I must do this if there is any chance that Jenna is alive I will get her and bring her home’ Kodi nods and nuzzles his father saying “take care of yourself dad” Balto nods and turns to Lyon and says “thank you Lyon for the information” Lyon replies “anytime Balto.” They watch as Balto hops into the back of the car and just then the humans get into their car and drive away Balto watches as Kodi and Lyon disappear from view.

Jenna and the others were herded into the space surrounded by chain wire fences she hears one of the humans saying “these dogs will be sold to Canada and raced and we make a pretty penny off of it” another human says “yeah I can finally die a rich man” they both laugh, Jenna thinks “oh god I don’t want to be sold to race and be separated from my family” she starts to cry. Jenna stops crying and looks around at her new “home” all it is a chain wire fence on one side with a large building on the other where dogs were moving in and out. Balto arrives in Nenna and immediately makes his way toward the railroad station and sees a human writing in a book the human gets up and walks out of the room, Balto walks into the room and hops up onto the humans chair and sees that the book contains where every train and its cargo have gone to. He notices on one of the lists that the trains cargo says “canines” Balto looks at the destination and it says “St. Albans Vermont” Balto thinks “Jenna has gone to Vermont” just as he thinks this he hears a human saying “now boarding Nenna to St.Albans Vermont” Balto thinks “this is my chance” Balto quickly runs out of the room and into a box car he jumps in as the train begins to leave.

Jenna has been stuck in the camp for three days since her capture she has lost a lot of weight and refuses to eat she tells the golden retriever “I would rather die then be here” she refuses to move or do anything she just lays there withering away.

Balto arrives in St.Albans during the day he gets off of the train and says to himself “right now that I am here I will find Jenna” Balto looks all over the town of St.Albans and cannot find where Jenna would be just as he is about to give up he has a bit of luck he runs into a dog who says he has heard of a camp on top of a hill called Hardack and says he should try there for his luck after Balto thanks the dog he makes his way to Hardack. He finds the path way that is imprinted with the paw prints of many dogs he follows them to a large wooden wall and moves around the wall unto he finds a small hole in it and looks through what he sees shocks him, he sees many dogs that look like walking skeletons and notices to one side of the place a dog with dim red fur with a bandana tied around her neck it is Jenna. Baltos heart fills with happiness that he has found her but also with sadness at the way she looks she is so skeletal looking and her fur is a dim red instead of it looking healthy Balto decides to break her out but will have to wait until night fall to do so. So he wait until night and finds a hole in the fence big enough for him to squeeze threw he gets inside and makes his way into the large building and steps inside, there are many dogs crammed into the building the only source of light Balto has to see the dogs is the light being emitted by the electrical lights outside that beam in through spaces in the boards of the building.

Balto notices in one corner Jenna he rushes over to her and
