It was a hot summer day. Stone Dogs’s family was in a fight over there territory. Stone Dog was the only survivor. Her mom and dad both died. Stone Dog was very dirty and one of her ears was broken off. She sat herself under a bush to keep cool in hope that someone would find her. She was tired and sick and had no place to go.
“It is fall now, I am still hungry and thirsty. I see two girls coming towards me. They look to be about twelve years old. They gave me water and cat food. They were the ones who gave me the name Stone Dog because my gray fur looked like stone.”
My name is Allison and this is my twin sister Amy. We both love animals. We love all animals, but my favorite is turtles and Amy’s are wolfs. We get along most of the time but sometimes we fight.
Stone Dog looked sick and dirty. She wasn’t really the prettiest dog either. We took her and put her in our backyard which was perfect for her because it had no fences so she could roam around it had a lot of trees and a big, steep hill. It looks like Stone Dog likes the trees because she is always climbing them. On the right side of the house there was a little pond. It had frogs and fish in it Stone Dog watched the fish swim but she would never try to eat them Stone Dog looks like a nice cat and would never try to hurt anybody.
Amy and I went inside and turned on the TV we were watching Animal Planet. Pet star was on and right before they announced the winner the news interrupted. Amy screamed then she calmed down once she found out what they were saying.
“There recently was a dog fight between two stray dog family’s only one dog survived that dog is now up for adoption.”
“We have too adopt her!” screamed Amy
We went too the vet to have Stone Dog checked. Once the vet was done she said that Stone Dog is allergic to something in many houses so she can’t live in doors but stone cat is healthy and is ready to be adopted. We signed the papers and bought Stone Dog some food.
When we got home we washed Stone Dog and she had some cuts on her but they looked like they would heal fast. Then we played with her she is fast and very playful. She enjoys chasing leaves and then eating them! She also likes to play with tennis balls. We would throw the ball and she would go get it. Then sometimes she would sit down and watch the wind she loves it when the wind blows in her face. Stone Dog loves it when we rub her head. Sometimes when we have our hand on our lap she’d lift our hand up and put it on her head.
Amy and I decided to build Stone Dog two small houses that she can go in if it is cold or rainy but every thing we build with would be from nature that was she does not get sick. One of the houses would be the summerhouse and the other will be the winter house. We decided to make the houses down the hill because there is lots of wood and rocks down there to build with. I built the winter house and Amy built the summerhouse. The winter house was built with logs and the summerhouse is built with big rocks.
When I made her winter house I made it with a lot of logs and wood to keep her warm. It had a rug that was made out of moss and it had leaves on top of the wood logs for more warmth. It had a small opening so Stone Dog can get in but the opening couldn’t be that big because if it was it would let all of the heat out.
Amy built Stone Dog’s summerhouse with big rocks. It also had a rug that was made with moss it was surrounded with rocks on three sides and one side was open so Stone Dog can look out side easy and also so she could feel the wind blow by. She loves it when the wind blows by.
It was the beginning of winter now we left Stone Dog in her winter house. Winter is Stone Dog’s favorite season. She loves playing in the snow and eating the snow. She thinks that the snow is very pretty I agree with her winter is also my favorite season.
It was the end of January now it is really cold the thermometer out side of my house says –2 degrees. Stone Dog was warm in her house. It’s the beginning of February now it started to snow again it turned into a bad blizzard it dumped three feet of snow in just two days by the end of the week there was seven feet snow it set a record for the most snow ever recorded the old record was five feet set in 1978. Now Stone Dog was very cold she stayed in her house. I would of went out side to get her but my house was covered in snow I could not even open the door so it was impossible for me to rescue her. My mom said Stone Dog is probably dead but Amy and I hoped that she is still alive if she had enough luck to survive the fight hopefully she’d have enough luck to survive this.
It’s spring now and the snow is slowly melting. Soon the snow went away and so did her house. Amy and I ran out of our house to go see if she was all right we found her house completely demolished but luckily we found her alive.
We went up hill and built Stone Dog new houses. Again we built a summer and a winter house I built the winter and Amy
built the summer. The two houses were almost the same only they were bigger and the summerhouse had a garden on top. Stone Dog liked to sit on the garden. They both had a moss rug. Stone Dog liked it there so we left her there.
Our mom said that we spend too much time with the dog but we said that you have to spend time with your pets and take care of them. They did not care so Amy and I left Stone Dog there.
Stone Dog sat in her garden while Amy and I lived our lives. I became a zookeeper at the Stone Zoo also I had a part time job at Petco I love working with animals so this is the right job for me.
Amy hasn’t decided what she wants too do yet she knows she wants to work with animals but she doesn’t know what she wants too do. She was thinking about becoming a zookeeper but that was just one of her ideas.
Back at Stone Dog’s houses she was getting very bored so Stone Dog decided to walk around the yard and neighborhood. Along the way she found another dog. He seemed to have the same problem as Stone Dog, his parents also were killed when he was young and now he is very lonely. He had no place to stay so Stone Dog said that he could stay with her. (We will call the cat Jake.) Jake smiled when he found out that Stone Dog could stay with her.
Stone Dog and Jake were walking when they found a river. They jumped in the river and swam around. When they got out of the river they realized that it was late so they headed back to there houses.
Stone Dog and Jake went back up too the houses to go to sleep. Eventually Stone Dog had kittens. Most of them looked like Stone Dog.
A few months later Allison and Amy came back when they saw the puppies they we so happy and excited.
“The puppies are so cute”, said Allison
“Yes they are”, said Amy
Stone Dog lived to the age of 26.
Allison and Amy both learned that just because a cat is ugly doesn’t make it a bad pet. They will always remember that lesson and will never forget Stone Cat, Jake, or the kittens
