Balto: Forgive and Forget.

Winter was almost ended in Alaska and already the ice floes were breaking up, deep in the wilderness on a beach near

the sea the ice floes had floated together to form a sort-of bridge across the water and on this bridge a pack of wolves

ran, faster and faster, they sprinted across the ice towards the beach, ahead a herd of caribou had already made it

across, they spread into the forests and out of sight, the wolves reached the beach and a female wolf stepped forward

"phew, we made it" she sighed, "huh, only just" a male wolf yelled, "you could've killed the whole clan with your ridicuous

stunt", the female lowered her head, "if that's the way you feel then fine, do it your way, I've had enough of this"

she announced and turned away, "good riddance" the male called after her as she walked through the last of the winter snow

she heard a familiar sound, one she remembered from her childhood, sled dogs!, she ran toward the sound of the dogs.

The sled team were running to Nome, a small town in Alaska, "whoa boys" the musher shouted, the dogs slowed down and

stopped, "whoo" a young dog at near the front of the team yelled, "ha ha, yeah, those Nome dogs won't know what's hit 'em"

a dog from the back said, the dog near the front smirked, "great speed there boss" the dog said, "well thank you, they

don't call me the fastest sled dog for nothing" the lead dog mused, "we'll see to that 'hero' dog too huh" another of the

team said, all the other dogs laughed, exept the lead dog, he glanced at the rest of the team and then looked to sky,

"oh no" the female wolf whispered to herself, she looked in the direction of Nome, "pa pa" she whispered again and then ran

for Nome.

Meanwhile, in Nome, a greyish brown wolf-dog stretched and jupmed down off an old abandoned fishing boat on the beach and

wondered into town, a red husky came to meet him, "Balto you're late,come on Kodi's waiting" she said to him, "OK, OK, I'm coming"

Balto replyed and the two dogs ran to the post office, "Dad, mum" another red husky called out from infront of the post office, "hey Kodi"

Jenna said with a smile, "I'm so glad you made it" Kodi said with a sigh of relief, "would'nt miss it for the world" said Balto, a musher came

out of the office, "come on dogs" he said, Kodi and the other sled dogs ran up to him, after the musher had put the harnesses on the other dogs

he put the lead harness on Kodi, "bet that feels good huh?" a grey sled dog behind Kodi said to him, "you bet it does Dusty" Kodi replyed,

Kodi and dusty had been promoted in the sled team, Kodi was now lead dog and dusty was right behind him, "MUSH" the musher shouted,

the sled team charged off to White mountain to deliver the mail, "I'm proud of you son" Balto shouted after them, Kodi smiled then carried on.

On the beach a goose was cleaning himself when two polar bear cubs ran into him, "can we play a game uncle Boris" the smaller of

the two said to the goose, "no" Boris replyed, "hm, huh, hm" the larger bear mumbled,"he said what?" boris asked, "it's a shame that

uncle boris is so boring these days" the smaller bear said quietly, "why you..." "MUK, LUK, COME HERE A MINUTE" Balto shouted,

the two bears ran to him, "wait here boys" Balto told them, the bears sat down dissappointed, "missing someone Boris?" Balto asked,

"Hmph, don't think you're going to get around me that way" Boris told balto, "he, he, he" balto chuckled "come on Boris, we've gotta

be waiting when kodi gets back" Balto told his friend, "you know, if I did'nt know no better I'd think that you were getting used to

being quiet now" Boris teased Balto, "ah Boris" Balto grinned back.

The mail dog team raced back into Nome, they stopped outside the post office, "how did we do dad?" Kodi panted, "execellent son" Balto

smiled, the dogs shook off their harnesses, "nice run kodi" Dusty said as she walked past, "thanks" kodi replyed, he watched her walk

off and sighed, "Kodi" jenna shouted "hi mum" kodi replyed, "how did your first run go?" she asked him, "great" kodi said perking up

his ears, "come on" Balto said to them, "um, dad, I'm gonna hang around here for a while" kodi told him, "OK" said balto and with a

smile kodi ran off, "he looks like he enjoyed himself" Jenna said to balto "yeah" he replyed.

Balto and Jenna reached Baltos boat just in time to see Muk and Luk run off, "what're they running away from?" Balto asked Boris,

"nothing, were playing hide and seek" boris replyed, "hide and seek?" jenna said, "best not to ask" Balto told her, they both smiled, the female wolf

had reached Nome and she trotted up to the boat, she walked up the plank of wood leading onto the boat and stood in the cabin doorway,

"hmm" Balto murmered as he heard her, Balto, Boris and jenna turned around, "Aleu?" Balto said stunned, "hi pa pa" Aleu said, "aleu" jenna

exclaimed as she ran to her, "hi mum" aleu said, jenna nuzzled aleu, "pa pa" aleu sighed as balto nuzzled her, "your father told me you'd

found a home?" jenna asked, "yeah but it was'nt for me" aleu amswered, "what brings you back home then?" jenna asked her, "OH, I almost forgot!"

aleu exclaimed, "what?" Balto asked puzzled, "pa pa, there's a sled team coming here for the race and they plan on beating our team" she told balto

"oh, no need to fret aleu, we've beaten a plane before, I'm sure we can beat a sled team" balto answered her, "no, you don't understand" she said

"they are the championship team, I saw the collar, the lead dog was wearing it, they're really fast papa, I don't think you can beat them" aleu explained

balto paused, "no, we'll beat 'em" balto said.

The sled dog team sped down into Nome, "whoa boys" the musher shouted and the dogs stopped, kodi and dusty heard them and looked out of the boiler room,

"he he, getting better by the minute boss" a dog from the back grinned, "he he, these Nome dogs'll be chasing their tails when they go against us tomorrow"

the grey dog smirked, the dogs laughed, kodi and dusty looked at each other then ran out the back door,"now now lads, don't get too excited, we might

not win" the lead dog joked, all the dogs laughed, "keep them jokes coming Kanook" the grey dog said to the lead dog, "oh I will Fritz" he replyed,

"hmm, wonder what sorta entertainment they got round here" the dog at near the back said, "dunno, best take a look huh Maska" Fritz said back, "heh,

lets go then" Maska announced, " you go lads, I'm gonna take a look around" Kanook told them, "what ever boss" Fritz shouted as the other dogs wandered off,

Kanook walked in the direction of the beach, when he got there he hid behind a hill, Balto and Aleu were playing on the beach near the old boat, Kanook

watched them sadly, he sighed and turned away, he took one last look back then ran back into town to find the rest of the dogs.

Jenna ran down to Balto and Aleu, "they're here" she panted, Balto and Aleu glanced at each other then followed Jenna into town, when they got there Aleu

split from Balto and Jenna, "I'll catch up" she called to them, she walked around a corner where the new musher was arguing with other towns people, one of

them pushed him back and he stumbled over, a couple of the towns people stepped forwards threateningly, Aleu jumped in front of him and snarled, the towns

people turned away, "good dog" the musher said stroking Aleu, he stood up and walked off, "come dog" he said to Aleu, she smiled and followed him, they walked

to his sled where Maska was waiting for his musher, Maska barked happily as he approached, "hey Maska" he said as he got to the sled, the musher went into the

store and Aleu waited outside, with Maska, "so, you're one of the new team" Aleu asked, "yep. gonna race the Nome team" he said proudly, "hmm, my brother's on

the Nome team" she said, "oh, well, um, I'll go easy on him promise" maska said, Aleu was'nt impressed, she walked off leaving Maska at the sled,

Later that day balto bumped into Kanook in an alley, "Oh, it's you" Balto exclaimed, "look Balto, I don't want to argue over a race..." "I never told you my name!"

balto shouted cutting him short, "how did you know my name?" Balto asked him, "I helped your mother choose it" Kanook told him quietly, Balto looked shocked,

"Who...are...you?" Balto asked confused, "Balto I'm...I'm your father!" Kanook finally told him, balto jumped back stunned, Kanook looked at him, Balto shook his

head slowly, "no...NO" balto shouted and ran off to the boat, "BALTO...BALTO COME BACK!" Kanook shouted after him, Kanook ran after him, "Balto" he panted when caught

up, "Why...why did you leave me?" Balto asked him, "I'm sorry son, my musher was moving away and I had to go too" Kanook tried to explain, "you could've told me" balto

yelled
