“About when I came to you, I’m sorry.” Procyon admitted.
“It’s fine.” Balto said to him.
“About fights, you seem not to encourage it just take the blow, I have to say, that’s quite a wolf.”
Balto forced a smile, “Yeah I guess so.”
“I’ll tell your females would kill to get that in a mate, you should teach me how you do that.” Procyon sheepishly requested. “Balto, I’m serious.”
Balto made a small laugh, “I don’t know how I just do.”
“Sorry Jenna needs to see that in you, and they always keep their secrets don’t they.” Procyon tried to cheer him up.
“Yeah I guess so.” Balto quietly said.
“About Cinder and Cronos, what do they want to be when they grow up?” Procyon asked.
“Cinder wants to be a lead dog, Cronos I don’t know.” Balto answered and admitted.
“Well for me Caph, wants to be a hunter, he’s an only child. My other pups died shortly after birth. To the fates they were born in ice cold temps in a blizzard, talk about bad luck.” Procyon tried to put humor in it put it pained him to bring it up.
“I’m so sorry.” Balto said to Procyon.
“It’s fine. His eight months old now.” Procyon remarked.
“Who’s your mate?” Balto asked Procyon.
“She is the most beautiful wolf in the world with her green eyes and brownish fur, her name is Atria.” Procyon said to Balto, Balto made a small laugh at the remark.
“So how long have you been in this pack? Well how old are you?” Balto asked.
“The fighting a lot of my life, I’m 6 years old. I know slow on getting a mate.” Procyon admitted.
“So I would like much to hear about your parents.” Procyon admitted.
“I’d rather not talk about it.” Balto answered to Procyon.
“Oh, alright. So how often do guys eat?” Procyon asked.
“I don’t eat much, some times, Jenna eats normal amount and same with Cinder and Cronos.” Balto remarked.
Procyon sighed, “Sorry.” Balto was confused.
“Sorry for what?” Balto asked.
“I was the one who ordered Hector to force you here.” Procyon confessed, “It wasn’t Hector.”
Balto wanted to hit him but held back, “That has a tendency to happen.” Balto said. “So when is the other wolf army going to be here?”
Procyon sighed as he moved his head around, three to four days.”
Balto didn’t like how close it was but figured the sooner, the sooner he could leave, “So do where do you fight? And where do I go?” Balto asked.
“I stay in the middle for the first part, but move to the front lines.” Procyon said to Balto he put his paw on Balto shoulder, “You just stay in the middle nothing else. Your don’t fight.”
Balto shook his head disbelieving it, “just in the middle? No fighting then what I’m…I here for?”
Procyon sighed, “Moral support he went though a whole lot crap to safe that town, and so if you’re here, you are basically there to say we can win that’s all.”
Balto didn’t like the sound of just being there. He frowned, “I should fight.”
“Yes, I know but you can’t fight your mainly a dog.” Procyon spoke, “You’re not a war dog or wolf as Hector is.”
Balto was baffled, “What Hector is war wolf!? How can that be he told me he was a hunter!”
Procyon smiled, “That’s Hector for you, he never tells his true self only his mate knows.”
Balto looked away, “I see. I’ll have to talk to her.”
Procyon bit his lip but said his words, “Te… force where up against is over a thousand.”
Balto practically tripped over nothing, “What?!”
Procyon twitched, “We only have four hundred. Are tactic have seventy-five percent out side the twenty-five other percent stay behind.”
Balto shock at what he heard, “You’re not lying are you?”
“I’m not, I wish you a good night.” Procyon said as he left Balto there to think about what he heard, Procyon turned, “Don’t try to run you can’t, if you get past us, you face Blood wraith.”
Balto turned at him, “Thank you.” Balto watched him leave, great! Just great! First Jenna…now an army thought was the population of the world is an army trying to kill us, great. Jenna, Jen…I should tell her, I have to.
Balto went to leave; he looked up at the sky. The northern lights. The lights were dancing in the sky. The lights reminded him when he finely brought the medicine back to Nome. “You can keep the Damn thing.” The words echoed in his mind, he looked at the ground, Jen I’m sorry! So, so, sorry. Balto felt the cold hand of despair take him.
Balto composed him self. He sorrowfully went for his den, he suddenly froze, the flashes of his past hit him, Balto waiting alone in the den. Flash, ‘Balto run!’ Balto shook at the remembrance.
Balto shook his head trying to clear his mind; the images wouldn’t leave his mind. ‘Dad!’ ‘Just run!’ Balto felt a tear go down his face. Why I’m I reliving that? He took a second to realize why. Jenna, she isn’t by my side, it’s the same as when, I lost dad, then…Balto twitched his eye, mom.
Balto took a breath and let it out. It isn’t the same she’ll come back we just got a fight, we’ll forgive and forget. But why is the same for me. Balto grunted. He shook his head more violently.
Balto head for the highest place he could find with the hill cave like thing. He stared out at he guessed would be the battle would be. I tried to be perfect, but nothing was worth it? Why can’t I be perfect…nothing was worth it. Balto closed his eyes. TURN. Balto snapped his eyes open.
Balto got up and headed back for his den. He whimpered at the thought of Jenna still being angry with him. Who could blame her, what her mate just kept her like a prisoner for two days then tells them they all go to a war. Yeah who couldn’t freak about that? Balto questioned him self, me.
Balto got to his den faster than he wanted, he saw Cinder and Cronos playing around in the back of the cave, and Jenna wasn’t far from them. Dooms day. Balto thought to himself. He took a couple hours to get around the place I think it’s around seven or eight now.
“Ah, come one Cronos! I know you can beat me in…a tail bite race!” Cinder exclaimed.
Cronos looked at him, “What?”
“Yes tail races we chase are tails first one to bite it wins!” Cinder called out.
“I guess I’ll try.” Cronos said to his brother.
‘I guess?’ how about a yes?” Jenna promptly asked Cronos. Balto smiled.
“Alright then I will.” Cronos said aloud. “Mark.” Cronos counted.
Cinder continued, “three.”
“Two. One!” they both counted and went to a frenzy was chasing their tails. About after five spins Cronos bit his tail, he stared at Cinder as tried to get his tail. Cinder stopped he got far too dizzy.
“How’d you that?” Cinder asked as fell unable to keep his balance.
“I guess it’s because I have a long tail.” Cronos admitted “I never knew I could beat you in anything.”
Cinder tried to get up, but fell over again, “Man, the world really does keep on spinning.” Cronos laughed. Balto made a small laughed he looked towards Jenna she wasn’t in his direction but she an eye turned to him, with the same killing glare.
“Some minute or two.” Jenna remarked coldly to Balto as he stood outside the den.
Balto sighed as he walked in, “Jen-”
“Can you quit the ‘Jen’ crap?” Jenna coldly asked.
Balto whimpered, “We need to talk.”
“I think we’ve done enough talk, we’re already here pretty much with out warning what, now you want to talk?” Jenna voice grew harsher with every word.
Balto was about to look away but stopped himself. “Can we talk, please Jenna.”
“You should talk to Cinder and Cronos. See what they think about this?” Jenna requested.
Balto sighed and whimpered, he looked at Jenna seeing if she calmed down at all, by what she said. She didn’t. “Alright…Jenna.” Balto gave in.
Balto spent the rest of night playing with Cronos and Cinder. He tried many times to talk to Jenna but she just scoffed him off. Balto felt Jenna became distant from him, in that short time passed like years for Balto.
“Alright you two time for bed.” Balto told his sons. Cinder whimpered but did as he was told. Cronos gave he mother a worried look and went bed. Balto waited a bit to make sure they had fallen asleep.
“Jen, can we talk now? Jen come on we
