“We must go faster. Must go faster.”
Balto looked at her, “I know I’m kind of doing that.” Then Balto noticed she was hurt and was falling behind. Balto put his paws in front of him to stop himself. Atria stopped next to him panting.
“what are doing?” She desperately asked.
Balto tried to smile, “Get on back you can’t run much longer.”
“What? You can’t carry me you’ll tire out!” Atria exclaimed
“Just do it!” Balto demanded. She did as she was told Balto lifted her up, she was a lot heaver than Balto thought. Balto started to run as fast as he could with the weight on his back. After a pain staking ten minutes the wolves gave up their chase but Balto didn’t stop running till he main den at the Aquarius caves.
Balto heard the wolves talking but could make out what they where saying, he felt light headed, his vision blurred for a moment. He blink to clear it Balto gave a cough then met the ground. Black.
Atria got off Balto after he fell down. She couldn’t believe that he ran so far so fast with him carrying her. She checked him; still breathing he over worked himself. Some wolves came to the sight.
Balto found himself in darkness; he looked around confused of where he was. He heard a voice. “Always trapped, and you always reject your true self.” Balto’s eyes widened as he realized the voice was his own.
Balto saw it became lighter and he could see. He looked down, he was floating in air, where I’m I, how I’m I flying?!! He was startled by voice, it was as he knew but couldn’t place it. “Hey Cronos that hurts I’m right here.” That dream again!
Balto was blinded by a bright light, now what? He heard his voice again, “When I want to go, I’m your true from, and I don’t want to stay!” Balto shock his head.
Wake up! The light darkened, Balto now saw himself, and fighting the bear he fought when he was looking for Steele. What’s going on! He his voice again, “And in the end?”
Balto refused to hear this nonsense, “Shut up!” Balto then tried to move, I can’t move! He tried again but his legs refused to move. He heard his voice talking to him again, “Don’t hit me with your fears, I don’t agree.” Balto turned and just in time when the ice cracked and he tried to get on top of it. Balto just stared at the event; he heard Jenna and Boris calling to him. Then he saw the ice force him down in the water.
Balto eyes finely opened, I hate my nightmares. Balto then remembered Atria, he shoot up to his feet. He franticly looked around; he couldn’t place where he was. He saw he was in a den. Where I’m I? Did I get caught? Balto began to shake did I fail? I can’t remember! I remember falling.
A voice made him slightly jolt, “Your awake! Your crazy freak!” Balto closed his eyes and turned, please be someone I know. Balto opened his eyes he saw it was Hector.
“Hector? Where I’m I?” Balto asked. Hector looked to his sides.
“Uh, your in your den. Well not your den, just a den that you use in this war that was caused by some dude, them. And then you saved me and then, and then, you did more and then you I think got sick.” Hector smiled at Balto.
Balto shook his head, “What?”
Hector sighed, “You did that, this, and then, and then, and then you got sick.”
“And then, and then and then?” Balto asked.
“And no and then.” Hector said to Balto.
“What?” Balto asked, again. Hector raised his voice.
“And no and then, if you and then one more time, you’ll get sick.” Hector nodded a few times. “Yep, you’ll get sick.”
Balto moved his eyes side to side, “Alright.”
Hector raised his paw and did a snake moment up and down, “Exactly.”
“Hector shut up.” Loresa called to Hector.
Hector half grinned, “Your still fat.” Loresa used her paw to fly a small rock to Hectors head. “Ouch! That hurt my head, oh gosh.” Hector moved to the side.
Loresa spoke again, “I don’t care.” Hector lipped her words.
Hector went next to Balto, “See I told you she hits me.”
Balto was still confused, “What happened?” Hector coughed.
“What you do?!” Hector hit his paw on the ground, “You got back Atria from enemy hands by your self! With out any skin off your bones man!” Hector laughed, “You got more skill then any thief wolf ever. Gosh how’d you do it? You want to die or something?”
Balto shook his head, “It wasn’t that hard but…” Hector looked at Balto, “Where’s Jenna?”
“Oh, she was right next you.” Hector point to with his paw to Jenna, he was right, Balto was asleep right next to her but he shoot up and moved.
“Oh.” Balto remember the fight he had, he sighed.
“What is it Hero of Nome.” Hector asked Balto twitched.
“Stop calling me that…” Balto sighed again, Hector still waited for him say what was wrong, “And I wish sometimes I didn’t do the things I do.”
Loresa now spoke to Balto, “Why.”
Balto paused but answered, “I don’t to be praised for what I’ve done, and it’s like I go looking for it I don’t want it.”
“Isn’t that what a Hero does? The imposable?” Hector asked.
“I wish I wasn’t. It just isn’t worth it.” Balto sadly admitted.
Loresa noticed how sad Balto was, “What?”
The words repeated in Balto’s mind, ‘Glory hound.’ “It’s not worth it I told you, it’s more then that, but some make the sacrifice. As I do.”
“You need to learn who you are.” Loresa said to Balto.
“I know what I am, a half-breed.” Balto voice was slightly cold.
“Nope.” Hector comment, “A hero is what you are. Yep you are don’t hate your self.”
Balto made a slight smile, “Thanks.” No one will ever under stand. Not even Jenna. “Hey why are you guys awake?”
Hector smiled, “Where to protect you sir, we were ordered, so we stay up all night and rest in the morning.”
“Oh, all right.” Balto now sort of understood. I want to sleep but now that I now someone is watching me it’s weird. “I think I’ll just sleep for now.”
Hector shrugged, “I’ll go out side, forecast, it’s snowing! Well goodbye well not really just um. I’ll just go out side.”
Balto looked out side it was snowing fairly heavy. Balto walked back next to Jenna to sleep again, sorry Jenna it looks like I can never…stop. Balto closed his eyes waiting for sleep to take him, it didn’t take long he was very tired.
Balto woke up but closed his eyes, he wanted more sleep he heard young voices. “Raccoon I dare you bite his ear.”
“No way dare Spirit Tiger, she doesn’t mind anything.” The other young voice commented.
“She is asleep though.” The voice said to the other.
“Then wake her up.” The voice grunted, Balto heard, small footsteps.
“Spirit wake up.” Balto heard some groaning.
“What?” the young female voice asked.
“Tiger and I dare you to bite, Balto’s ear.” The voice Balto guessed was Raccoon?
“Alright. But I like Cronos more he more fun.” The female voice said.
“Were not asking you to do that just a bite.” Balto guessed it was Raccoon, or Tiger?
Balto heard some fast passed footsteps then a pause, Balto felt a pain in his right ear, and he ignored it. The bite released.
“Are you even biting hard?” one of the two asked. Balto heard a scoff and another greater pain in his right ear. Balto opened his eyes he wanted sleep. Balto saw a white wolf pup biting his ear.
“Hi.” Balto softly answered, the pup stop biting his ear. She looked at his eyes.
“You’re a Balto?” the pup asked.
“Yes. And who are you?” Balto answered and asked.
“Me? I’m Spirit. Cronos is your son right?” Spirit answered and then asked. Balto half smiled, they always talk, it reminds me of them.
“Yes both Cinder and Cronos are my sons.” Balto answered tiredly. Balto glanced at the two other pups they slowly walked away.
Spirit put a paw on Balto’s check, “You seem tired.”
Balto looked ahead, “Yeah, I’m tired, worked till I drop, pretty much literally.”
Spirit put her paw off Balto, “Is that what knock out means?”
Balto smiled, “Sort of.”
“Oh alright, I’ll let you sleep.” Spirit finished and then she ran off, Balto heard a groan of pain. Cronos?
“Spirit? What do you want? I’m still trying to figure out how to eat this.” Balto
