the side and tried to fallow his mother as she started running but, found it hard to keep up with her. It seemed that the faster he ran,the father his mother got. "Mom....wait....!" Balto yelled as he panted, unfortnutly, the white wolf didn't listen and continued running through the forest. Balto fallowed till his legs felt they would give and had to sit down, panting, he watched as his mother continued running, "Come back! Mom! Please come back! Mom please! Come back," Balto laid down in the grass, closed his eyes and cried.

Balto awoke to the sound of a gental voice. His ears perked up and he slowly opened his eyes to see a royle red and snow white female with a look of concern in her soft hazle eyes. Balto lifted his head from his paws, "Huh?" He asked the female, "I was asking if you were alright I heard a dog back here crying and came to make sure they weren't in danger and found you. Are you ok? You sounded sad," Said the female, still looking concerned.Balto yawned,"I'm fine just....dreaming," The female sat down in front of him and smiled slightly, "You where crying for your mom, did something happen to her?" Balto got up,shook off, and sat down infront of the female, "She umm ahem she died a few days ago," Balto said quietly the dog looked sad, "I'm sorry, I know how you feel, on the way here a few months back, my mom and dad's sled dog team were attacked by a large bear, there where I was the only servivoir by luck," The dog sighed at the memory, Balto slid up to her and nuzzled her. "My mom died the same way, she died saving me, if I hadn't ventured out of the cave it wouldn't have taken me and she'd still be here," Balto said as a tear rolled down his face. "My mom used to tell me that, sometimes things can't be prevented. That there is always a time for accidents but no matter what everyone goes when its their time and never before. What I'm saying is, your mother's death isn't your fult like the death of my parents and their team isn't mine," Said the dog as she nuzzled him back. Balto smiled and looked down at the dog, he noticed she looked, what Balto could only define as cute. "Um hey miss I'm sorry, what's your name?" The husky laughed in embaressmant,"I'm so sorry,my names Jenna,I'm a siberian husky and umm kinda new here and you?" "Names Balto, I'm an Arctic wolf/Alaskan husky mixed, I'm new to Nome myself," Jenna gasped,"Your part wolf?" "Yea my mom was a wolf, is that a problem?" "No....not really, just, my dad told me never trust wolves that their blood thursty killers," Balto frowned "That's not true, if anything wolves are more reliable then dogs," "Calm down, I didn't say I had anything against wolves, till you I've never met anyone whos even related to them," Balto sighed, "I'm sorry Jenna just, my life hasn't been the best since she died and I got seperated from my clan," Jenna looked into his amber eyes, "You miss them dont you? your clan I mean?" "Every much so," "Why don't you go back?" "By now they've moved on I might never see them again," "If you try I bet you could find them," Balto sighed again and looked at the ground,"I don't know Jenna," "Come on, I'll come with you," Balto looked at her and smiled, "We've only known each other for like five minuets," Jenna laughed, "At the moment I'm in between homes, so I take care of myself most days, if anything I should know who to trust," Balto rolled his eyes and laughed, "The musher's gonna be back soon," he said. Jenna looked at him, "So? Since when does a wolf run on a sled anyway?" Balto laughed again and started walking out the yard with Jenna not far behind him.

They reached the forest and Balto put his nose to the ground and began to sniff."So Balto what's it like being in a clan?" Jenna asked as they slowly walked, "It's....different then living around humans, there are rules to be obyed that cannot be broken ever!" Balto said, still sniffing. Jenna looked curiously at the creater she knew as her new friend, she watched his movment and looked at his thin, yet majestic build and thought to herself that he seemed a tad cute for a hybrid. Balto stopped suddenly and kept his nose on one spot in the ground, Jenna walked up next to him,"What is it?" She asked quietly, "Blood," he answered in the same tone.He sniffed the trail and soon saw massive amounts of blood stained snow,"I wounder who could have done this?" Jenna said as her eyes fallowed the blood trail. "I'm not sure but I hope...."Balto trailed off as he saw the body of wolf in the snow. "Hope what Balto?" Jenna asked as she walked up beside him. Balto said nothing as, his eyes filled with tears at the sight of a massive white wolf laying not far from the blood in the snow."Oh my god," Jenna said quietly as Balto walked up to the body which once held his mother's life. He laid down beside his now dead mother, put her paw around himself and saw the huge gash which ended her life, sobbing he spoke softly to her, "I'm so sorry mom, I shouldn't have left the den, it's my fult your laying here insted of back home with the rest of our family. I wish....I wish you were still here mom. I miss playing with you, remember how you taught us to hunt and fight? I made a few friends mom but I still miss our clan. Heh you were right you know? Geese are annoying little pest. Oh mom I wish you'd get up and lead us back home," Jenna laid beside him and licked the tears from his eyes,"She's your mom?" Balto nodded, "She's every beautiful," Balto wipped his face with paw and laughed alittle, "Mom used to say that the only reason dad wanted to have pups with her was because she was the only female around but, if you ask me it was because she was the most beautiful wolf in all of Nome," he sobbed again and Jenna placed a paw on on his head and let him sink his head into her chest, filling it with tears. Jenna sighed,"Everything will be alright Balto, I promise," She whispered, not noticing the pair of glowing, yellow eyes watching them from a far.

Jenna woke to the sound of digging. Stretching, she got up and looked around for Balto. She smiled and walked over to him as he finished covering over his mother's remains, "How long where you up?" She asked, "Not long, thought my mom deserved a proper placement, this may not be my clan's land but at one time it was my mother's" Balto said, evening out the lump of dirt and snow that was now the last resting place of his mother. He sighed as he finished and looked at his work, "Think mom would be proud?" Jenna smiled, "Of cores she would, why wouldn't she?" Balto's ears sunk, his eyes closed and his head whent down,"Because I'm living with humans,"He said as a tear rolled down his cheek and hit the floor. Jenna nuzzled his chin and, after a while, Balto moved back and smiled,"Thanks Jen," Balto said,"We should keep moving before...." Balto trailed off again as a familer sent filled his nose, "Jenna run!" he yelled as a loud rour filled the air. Balto growled loudly and bared his teeth as the sound of heavy foot steps filled the air, Jenna took a few steps back,"Balto have you ever even fought a bear before?" "I'll find out how to kill one today," he said as the bear showed itself, snarling with scars around its body. Balto growled louder,"You! You killed my mother and many of my clan, for that you will pay!" Balto said before lunging at the bear and biting its neck.Jenna growled and lunged, landing on the bear's stomache and sinking her teeth deep into it. The bear roared in agony and swiped at them, barely missing Jenna. Both Balto and Jenna tore open and rescatched many old and unheld wounds on the bears body, tearing deeper into each wound and causing more and more pain for it. The bear got a lucky shot and shook the pups off him as each hit the ground, the bear droped to all fours and started to run as the blood ran down much of it's body. Balto got up snarling, "You shall not leave, you've caused to much pain and suffering to my clan as well as others!" He yelled.Letting out a powerful battle howl helunged again and land on the bear's back and sank his teeth as deep as he could into his neck. The bear roared and started to run but, Jenna ran ahead and blocked its way. Snarling, she lunged at the bear once more and in return, the bear raised it's paw and hit her, missing most of her body, she flew into a tree and fell. Balto saw this and became enraged thinking of how he'd found his mother in the snow, the wolf half of him took over fully and he jumped off the bear. Snarling, he walked twards the bear and, douging it's attacks he slipped under the bear and tore into it's neck, hiting its gugular and causing the bear to die a slow painful death.

Panting, Balto walked over to the royle red and snow white female husky that Balto had come to know as his friend. He sniffed her, motionless body and licked the blood off her. Balto sighed, "Guess I'm a lone wolf/dog," he laughed quietly to himself and was surpized to see Jenna move. He put his head down next to hers and and watched as her eyes slowly opened.Balto licked her nose as Jenna lefted her head, "Balto I....wheres the bear?" "I finished it off after it hit you," he said, moving from infront of her and let her see what was left of the bear. She gasped and looked from the bear to Balto, his mouth and front paws were stained with blood. Balto cocked his head,"Something wrong Jenna?" Jenna shook her head,"We....we....we....killed a bear and lived to tell the tale," she said. Balto smiled proudly and helped Jenna to her paws. She sighed as looked at the now very dead bear,"Balto I don't think we should leave it there like that I mean it doesn't seem right," "Don't worry Jen, somone will probly eat it," "No one ate your mother and her body's been out here longer then the bears," Balto growled at this comment and Jenna backed up a few inches. "My mother, was the leader of a great clan, in her years of living she's inspired many and raised a great army. She's even won the hearts of both wolf and dog as well as the respect. The
