his name was Mika, but more than that I don't know."
"Mika?" Jenna asked, sounding very confused. "Yeah, that name definitely sounds foreign."
"Worst of all, he even blamed me for the incident." The tone in Balto's voice escalated slightly. Then reality struck. He forgot to look where he was going when he exited the alleyway. "Oh, no. It was my fault. I'm the reason Mika tripped and ran into those guys carrying the window. I'm the reason why he has a deep gash on his right cheek. I might as well have physically stabbed him right in the face with that shard of glass!"
Balto then furiously pounded a seat cushion, venting his frustration.
"Look, Balto, honey," Jenna said, trying to calm him down. "It's not your fault. From what you described, it sounds like it was just a freak accident. If he was in a hurry like you said, he probably couldn't have reacted in time."
"Possibly," Balto replied. "I don't know his side of the story, so I can't say for sure what the deal was with him. I've never intentionally hurt a human being, and I certainly haven't had something like this happen to me. I then saw him walking out of the hospital with a bag of ice on his cheek, and it was then that I really felt bad about what happened. Do you think I should apologize to him?"
"If it makes you feel better," said Jenna, "then go ahead and do it."
"OK," said Balto. "Now I just need to figure out how to apologize. I don't have hands, so I can't exactly sign a 'Get Well' card and send it to him."
"You don't have to apologize right away," Jenna said still trying to sound comforting. "Do it when you're ready to. Do it however you want to. Hopefully..." she paused to try and remember his name. "...You said his name was Mika, right?"
"Uh, yes, I believe I did," said Balto.
"Well anyway," said Jenna, "hopefully when you go to give your apology, Mika will be ready to accept it."
Balto sighed and said, "I just hope he does."
"I'm sure he will as long as he knows you meant it."
The two then sat down to relax on the living room couch, Balto thinking about what had transpired earlier, and what might happen next time he would encounter this new guy named Mika Kykalisko.
Who is Mika Kykalisko? What does he look like? What's his story? How will Balto apologize for the mishap? Find out in Chapter 2: Breaking The Ice.
