A very rare and warm Fall day, and the whole sled team had been anxious to run for the mail today. All eight dogs were ready and harnessed. Then Doc Baker stepped out of a little shack were the team slept, waving his hands at the musher holding a peice of paper. He took the musher in to the shack to talk.

           Meanwhile the dogs had some time to their selves. Kodi and Dusty had been mates for over 3 weeks and it really showed. Dusty nustled Kodi and a smile went across their faces. Balto and Jenna were sooooo proud of their son having a wonderful mate and they having the same job. Dusty asked Kodi" Really how long is this going to take"? Kodi thought for a second then answered" I really dont know hun, but at least we have some time together". "Your right", she said.

            The Doc Baker and musher stepped out of the house and they both walked over to Dusty. All the dogs were back in their places. Dusty looked confused and murmered from the side of her mouth" What the heck are they doing? Now Kodi was begining to worry if they might take her off the team. She was the only girl(but that didnt matter).

            Then the musher started to take all her harnesses off. He said to her"Its for the best,girl".Kodi then could not take it. He then barked at the musher and the musher stopped for a second and said"Im sorry boy, just for a few months until they are born and grown to solid food". Kodi thought for a second" Whos they? Dusty was now freed from the harnesses and very confused. She liked running on the sled team by Kodi and with the others and musher liked her. She couldnt understand. Then Doc Baker said" Dusty is now pregnant Kodi , ofcourse the father by these blood results". What Dustys a mother to be and Kodis a father to be.

            There was no time to celebrate the team was allready at the forest. Kodi took one look back at his mate and smiled an excited smile. . In the meantime Dusty did not know what to do with the months of she had off. So she trotted to tell Balto and Jenna the exciting news. Balto and Jenna were soooo excited to be grandparents. Blato said" Now i feel really old". They all laughed. Balto wanted to go tell his buds the exciting news. So he went to town. Then Dusty went home to the shack and fell asleep quickly.

               She was awoken by Kodi nudging her neck. She woke up with the whole team talking." Hey Dusty, have you told mom and dad yet"."Ofcourse thats the first thing I did"." I am sooo excited about our new family, I have been thinking about it the whole mail run. Im a father I kept saying. What are we going to do if I am on a mail run and I miss the birth.".Dusty could tell that Kodi was as happy as she. But she too wondered the same thing"Kodi, if things go well then maybe that wont happen".

                It seemed that night the team was having a celebration. They were all talking if the pups would be mail dogs like their dad or a hero like their grandpa. Kodi and Dusty were having a great time too until Kirby said somthing very disturbing to Dusty. He said" Well how fat do you think your going to get. And then Someone else said" I dont know if well have the room for such a big girl like Dusty'. Dusty grinned. Kodi looked at her and saw the grin. The team was all making fun of her. Then Kodi stood in front of Dusty and said" Now if your making fun of her and our pups then you need to really STOP. Your acting very childish and I Dusty cant take it. Now it doesnt matter how big she is going to get. We all need to hope the pups will live." They all were quiet for a monment. Then Kirby said" Sorry Kodi we were just having some fun is all. Well stop.

                    They did and by morning the team had forgotton the little disaster. Kodi was all strapped and ready to as Dusty walked up and gave him a good kiss good bye on the cheek. "Kodi, I think your going to be a great father of what I saw last night. If your a wonderful mate then youll have no trouble at a father. He nudged her and like a flash they were off.

                       Months had passed and Dusty had gotten much bigger with all the pups. Dusty had moved with Jenna because she was only a week away. They were very thankful. Dusty had been in pain every night for three weeks. Jenna and Rosie helped her as much they could. Kodi woul come over and comfort her. He always hated to leave his mate and unborn pups.

                One night Kodi had not ran alll day and spent the whole day with Dusty. They were snuggled by the fire at Jennas house. Then Dusty started rolling and tossing. She looked up at kodi and said she felt like throughing up. She did, and Rosie and Jenna knew that it was time. Kodi helped Dusty in the truck and they rode to Doc Bakers. Kodi was in the back and comforting Dusty she let out a scream. And Kodi junped, he asked what was wrong.

                 Kodi didnt want to leave Dusty. But he had to. The nurses took Dusty in the delivery room. Kodi, Balto,Jenna, and the whole mail team was there. Kodi kept pacing back and forth the whole time. Balto finally said" Son sit down and breath she'll be fine, if you keep doing that youll get sick.

                   Doc Baker came in and Kodi ran past him, almost knocking him over. He walked in the small room and saw Dusty on a warm and looking very comfy bed. He walked up and saw the three beautiful pups he and Dusty had brought into the world. " Two boys and one girl, all very strong, and furry". Balto and the others walked in(not that much room really). Balto and Jenna were too proud of there son. " Remember when...". Jenna said. Balto nodded happily.

                     Dusty was now home, Kodi had took off and stayed with Dusty the whole time. The two boy pups looked like Dusty. Brown and white. Kodi and Dusty decided to name  the boys, Anatoe, and Bolkan. The girl pup looked like and exact copy of Kodi. red and white. They decided to name her Alai after Kodis grandpa(she was a big tomboy). The pups were now all over the place. Anatoe loved to be a total mamas boy. Bolkan loved to be by hiself. He was such a wise and older acting pup. Alai loved to play in the mud and all over Nome. She loved to run on the beach like Kodi. She wanted to run the mail and hopefully be like her hero of a grandpa.

                  Everyone in Nome loved the dogs and new additions. Kodi and Dusty returned to the team and was better than ever. Kodi and Dusty let jenna watch the pups when they were at work. Kodi loved his pups and Dusty always showed her maternal instincts. Kodi knew that nothing would ever happen to his new family(so he thought).
